Every good sample of newer 70-200 2.8 lenses...

I owned the Canon 70-200 2.8 L IS II, the Nikon 70-200 2.8 VR II, Sigma 70-200 2.8 HSM and OS with different mounts, Tamron 70-200 2.8 Di with different mounts und the Pentax 70-200 2.8. Use and used all of them on cameras with high pixel pitch as K-1, K-3 II, D800e, D7100. The Pentax is the best Zoom Lens I ever owned, but also the other ones work well with 1.4 TC and deliver good results also with 2x TC.

Here's an image with the Sigma 70-200 2.8 OS + 2x TC wide open on D800 (whole Image and 100% crop):

Difference between Sigma Sigma 50-500mm 1:4-6.3 APO DG and the newer 4.5-6.3 version?

No. The newer OS-Version is better in optical performace. And if you don't need the 50-150mm, best buy for money is the 150-500 OS.

Just a quick question on Sigma Macros

That's right. When Sigma announced the 150 OS, it was listed with PK-mount on their page. And than it didn't came....

I would suggest to try a TC with your Sigma 105 (Sigma TC and the Pentax TC work fine) and wait.
Sigma seems to be thinking about launching new lenses for PK and there were rumors about a long Pentax macro, too. A new long macro by Sigma or Pentax may lower the price of the 180/3.5 to a reasonable level.

What's so special about the limited lenses?

That's easy....
Buy a DA 50 1.8 and you have a good performing, fast 50mm at nearly no cost. Or go for the DA* 55 1.4. Both are FF-lenses, despite of the name. Than you have a choice of older F/FA 50 1.4/1.7 lenses, all of them doing well on the K-1.

And last but not least, my FA 43 Ltd. was very, very good on the K-1 even wide open.

The smallest is the DA 35 Ltd.

And regarding the difference in size between F(A) 50 and DFA 100 WR: seems not to be so much.....

I had almost every AF macro available in PK-mount. My recommendation: take the one you find at a good price!

They all perform very well. If price ist not important, I would suggest to take the Pentax 100 WR. It's very small an a fine piece of metal.

Wildlife is poor in Malta as the island has very few natural environments left. Despite of that, you can find lot of birds there during spring and fall migration, because they use Malta as a stopover between Europe and Africa. But due to bird hunting by local idiots, the birds are very shy. But there are some nice reptiles to find, like the chameleons (you can find them in every shrub, there is no special area for them). We went there just to spend some warm days in autumn, as it is an inexpensive trip from Germany.

Wow! Never heard about these animals and then pictures like that.... :)

I'm back from a (rainy) trip to the island of Malta. Took the long lenses with me for birding - and brought back exactly zero (0) bird pictures....

So, the 150-450 had to serve as macro:

also the DA*300/4 with 1.4 TC did well with insects:

and finally two shots with the "naked" DA*300/4. The chameleon had just caught a big butterfly an was munching....

Yes, but watch the results at 630mm on Pentax. That was the most surprising thing for me: the 150-450 delivers very sharp images with the TC even wide open (stopping down is even worse!) and the K-3 II had no problem focussing.

Ok, the weather is still  but I made a quick and dirty comparison from my roof window.

All jpeg ooc, the name of the file provides all necessary information (d530060063 means: Nikon D5300, 600mm, f6.3)

j5300 = Nikon 1 J5 with adaptor and Tamron 70-300 VC at 300mm/5.6

Absolutely! You'll never fail a shot again with a Canikon in your hand! :p

That said, the thread can be closed.....

(in my real life, I don't experience much of a difference between the Nikons I have - D800e, D5300 -, the Canons I had - all APS-C from 30D to 7D - and my Pentaxes)
