Looking for a prime, what would you buy?

I've considered...

On the completely opposite as this thread originally had intended; I ended up buying that Bigma from a member this morning.

So looks like I'll need to hold off on future purchase of prime lenses,

I did test out the 50mm F1.7 though and it does a fantastic job for now.
As she finishes up her next few pieces we will really be able to tell how the fast 50 is performing and what we want from out next lens.

Her work ranges from the size of a post it note, to the size of a single bed...
But the majority is around 10x12.

So I think I need to test out more with the lenses I currently have...
I've never actually tested my Rikenon 50mm f1.7, I paid $20 for the lens to play with reversing on tubes for macro... I never thought it'd be sharp enough to document her work but now I definitely need to try it out.
It seems a lot of people here think the appropriate FL is between 24mm and 85mm. With my fast 50 in that range and being 1.7, I think it'll be fast enough to capture shooting her work indoors.

I'll report back! lol

But I still may look into that Sigma 30mm f1.4

Something about that lens just tempts me...

Sorry for my ignorance... What is UAD?

I saw there was a 35 LTD in the marketplace for $339 or so?
Is that a good deal?

I'm coming to the frightening and forthcoming realization that the Sigma 8-16 will not last long in my bag...
This lens is a beast; a true species of its own. But unfortunately I don't have much practical use for it beside a few trips I have planned for this year.

I hate the fact that I'm even typing this right now...
But reality is, the 8-16 is worth more to someone else. And it would certainly fund the prime I'm looking for...

I hate making decisions like this...

Good question, maybe I should have elaborated from the beginning... Woops!

I want something fast and sharp... I mean Sharp!
My fiancée is an artist and I want something that will be useful for documenting her paintings. It must be sharp, corner to corner. And I figured between 24mm and 100mm will provide the least amount of distortion. My zooms just aren't cutting it for documenting her work.

For now I think I will continue to work on my technique with the 4 lenses I have.
Maybe by Black Friday I will have a completely different outlook on photography, or just desire something on sale lol

EDIT: But to be clear... Here is my take away from this thread:

FA31 is just something to strive for adding to my collection in the long run...
DFA 100 WR would be my best bet for macro
One of the variations of 85mm f1.4 would be nice as well, and relatively inexpensive.
SMC 15ltd may control my mind if I get it, but it will also be a nice addition in the long run.

These 4 lenses above would definitely quench my LBA for some time.
Oh wait, I'd also like to add in the DA*300 with HD TC...

So now for the biggest take away from all this!
The only one I can truly afford right now would be the 85mm f1.4.
Unless I trade my Sigma 8-16, but that's not happening for at least a few months.

Thanks again for everyone's posts.
It's great having this community to bring you down to Earth sometimes, while other times being the drive force leaving me in outer space!

Ok so FA31 and Sigma 70 macro are officially on my list. Now I just need the $1000+ to fund these purchases...

Definitely missing a macro.. That's a consideration with the Sigma 70 or the DFA 100.
But the FA ltds look like a solid addition.

Someone is selling the three amigos as a set near me... $1750 for the lot.
But I think he is reasonable and would take $1500.

I wish I had the money...

I think the FA31 will make its way into my bag eventually...
Either before of after a Sigma 150-500...

I need to get a second job

That sigma 8-16 is an entirely different species...
Sometime I don't even take pictures and just walk around my town with that lens on LV... See what the world looks like from 8mm rectilinear at all times. Makes my head hurt.

I've considered the FA31. I heard it has pixie dust in it or something like that? I hope that doesn't affect IQ

ahh decisions decisions...

I wonder...
Could you live with one camera body and the FA31 alone?

I've heard soo much hype about this lens...
Perhaps it's time to start a new fund?

I certainly am not parting with the Sigma 8-16 any time soon.
But I guess I have been motivated to sell lenses I loved in the past...

hahahaha I do already miss that lens! :(

But I'm extremely happy with the Sigma 8-16 that was funded by that sale...
I was actually looking at the Sigma 70mm Macro. I know I just got rid of my Sigma macro, but that 70mm is tack sharp man!

Or maybe a FA77...

Or perhaps that Sigma 30mm f1.4 art

I really just don't know!

this was another consideration... A fairly expensive consideration... lol

I know this is a loaded question and it all depends on the photographer...
But I figured it'd be fun to hear from the PF community.

Based on my current lens collection below, what would you purchase next?

My current lenses are:
Sigma 8-16
Ricoh 50mm f1.7
DA 18-135mm WR
DA 55-300mm WR

(Oh by the way I'm shooting from a K-30...)

Only criteria: It must be a prime!
There is no cost restraint; but if your suggestion is a FA* 600mm F4... Please list an additional lens that the average enthusiast can afford too!
I'm interested in hearing everyone's thought.
Cheers!
