Best K-5 settings for smaller file sizes? Trying to set up DIY photo booth

The main goal is for the kids to have a good time doing it. I don't expect to take any of these photos and do anything fancy with them. Having said that, I don't want images that I don't think are good quality. I guess I can take a test at the 6 MP size and see how that looks.

Best K-5 settings for smaller file sizes? Trying to set up DIY photo booth

Yes, thanks, that would be the best idea in order for the jpgs to show up quickly. The only problem with this is that the Eye-fi card that I have is only 4GB. I think that it would wind up filling quickly with the RAW files. Also, I would rather not deal with Raw files at all for this photo booth. Maybe I'll do some testing though.

Best K-5 settings for smaller file sizes? Trying to set up DIY photo booth

Hi all,

I'm planning on setting up a DIY photo booth at my son's graduation party. K-5 on a tripod, sending jpgs to an Ipad via an eye-fi card. The kids will use a remote trigger to take the shots. I want the photos to show instantly on the ipad that will be facing them. In my experimentation with the eye-fi card previously, the transfer rate was really slow, so I was thinking to change camera settings to make the files smaller. There are two jpg settings on the K-5, file size and quality. Which is better to adjust to make the file sizes smaller, but still have pretty good quality jpgs?

Also, any other suggestions for a DYI photo booth would be appreciated. I'd like to figure out a way to allow them to copy the pics to their iphones, but don't know how to do that. Thanks!

Rent a K-1?

I did the same as you. I rented the K-1 and had the same impressions. Was surprised with the size too. My photography is mostly portraits and sports. I enjoyed it, and thought it was a nice camera, but it was not earth shattering for me. It is certainly not designed for sports, so I suppose that was part of it. I would like one, but just not willing to make the additional investment right now over my existing K-5iis.

Wow, I would have thought the flash would be harsher from 6 to 8 feet away with that 39" modifier. Gives me some hope for the AD200 in TTL outdoors.

Wow, that's impressive! Can you tell us a little more about the setup? How close was your softbox to her? How consistent was your flash exposure in TTL?

Seeing focus point?

Thanks. All I am talking about is knowing which focus point the camera is selecting when I half press the shutter. I have looked at it more closely and compared to the K-5. I guess it does provide the same functionality, but it is not nearly as distinct with the K-1? In the K-5, if the center focus point is used, there is a distinct bright red outline of the focus point. For the other focus points, the red indicator light fills the whole box of the focus point. In the K-1 the focus point(s) used show as a faint (IMO) black box that is illuminated by a red light from the side of the viewfinder? Unless my K-1 is defective, or I still have something set wrong, it is MUCH more difficult to know which focus point is being selected by the camera for focusing with the K-1.

I know you both know the camera very well, so if you think there is no distinct difference between the two than either I still have something set wrong, or my K-1 is defective.

I should have clarified. So, when I take a picture, the focus point used shows up as a black outlined box? On the K-5, it shows up as a red dot. The red dot is easily seen. The black box is hardly visable.

Seeing focus point?

Hi all,

I'm borrowing a K-1 for evaluation. My current camera is a K-5iis. I like what I see so far. One immediate annoyance is not being able to tell what focus point the camera is using when in AF. Do they not light up? Do I have to change a setting somewhere? Also, the camera has 1.0 firmware, any firmware updates for this?

I seem to remember back when the K-1 came out people had a similar complaint. I hope it's something that can be rectified? Thanks.

Thanks for the updates. This is great news. I'm pretty sure I have this right, but want to confirm:
1) AD200, AD400, AD600 models that support TTL at all will support PTTL with a firmware update that is available now.
2) For speedlights, there is no Pentax specific model, but the other branded ones that support TTL will support PTTL with a firmware update available now.
3) There has been no announcement that a Pentax specific speedlight is coming out?
4) All of the Godox flashes that support HSS will do HSS with the XPro-P transmitter without any firmware update

Could be me, but I don't see that much in the new design that makes it better. I haven't examined it very closely yet though. I wish I knew how much longer it will be until the Mark ii is out. I wonder if Flashpoint will even release the Mark i in Pentax at this point?

FLASHPOINT R2 PRO Mark II Transmitter – Released! | FLASH HAVOC

An upgrade is coming out for the same price! Now the question is for those who preordered, what should we do? Cancel? I wonder if Godox will even put out the version we ordered, or just give us the new one instead?

I was thinking the same thing! I brought my second camera to a football game, thinking I would be able to do the same thing. Found out quickly that it would take a lot of practice to be able to do that!
