Stihlmania,
Many thanks for your reply. You state that the image quality deteriorates beyond 250mm with the converter - does that include using the lens at f8/f11, which is the sweet spot at 300mm - kindly advise.

Honey Bo Bo, now that you have owned the HD55-300WR lens and 1.4xWR HD combination for a reasonable time, kindly advise how you find the performance comparison relating to image quality and AF speed with and without the converter. I am a great fan of the HD55-300WR lens - its performance is excellent for the price and the AF is quick with the K-3.

I can recommend First Aid Repairs in Royal Tunbridge Wells - they repaired a K-x for me about 3 years ago. They give a reasonable quote on description of the problem (the quote was accurate) and the repair turn-round was about a week.

To get a feeling how the K-3 shake reduction performs with the HD PENTAX D FA 150 to 450mm ED DC AW Lens what minimum shutter speeds with sharp images can users achieve at the 450mm end when using hand held. Also similarly with monopod and tripod support when shooting static objects. Looking forward to users feedback.

Pentax HD PENTAX-D FA 150-450mm F4.5-5.6 ED DC AW Lens feedback

David,
Many thanks for the reply. When using your tripod for static shots (I presume a very sturdy model), what is the minimum shutter speed for a given focal length can you obtain, again with good sharpness.
My questions generally relate to the shake reduction performance of the 150-450mm lens. Many thanks for your interest.

From users of the Pentax HD PENTAX-D FA 150-450mm F4.5-5.6 ED DC AW Lens, typically what are the minimum shutter speeds with monopod use, to get sharp photographs at typical focal lengths of 150mm, 300mm and 450mm. Also how do users feel the lens autofocus speed performs (in continuous mode) in typically photographing race track cars and flying birds.
I am considering using the lens with a K-3 camera.

Flash snoot and extender comparison

Digitalis, many thanks for the comparison. It appears snoots have no real function in light projection, more of a local diffuser.

Des, many thanks for your comments on Fresnel extenders. From your experience of the MagBeam, what typical f stop exposure gain do you get from this device. I am considering it for wildlife photography.

Kind regards,

Robert N

Flash snoot and extender comparison

Has anyone compared the flash unit output concentration performance of a snoot reflector tube to a Fresnel extender arrangement. Fresnel extender suppliers advertise a 2 stop exposure increase in performance, compared to the base flash unit. Has anyone directly compared a snoot reflector tube performance?
