Yeah if I had a bigger budget I would go for the 150-450. But It's a lot of money to use on a lens if I don't get so into bird photography.... i dont know.... what about the old 400 mm pentax lens?

Hey guys!

So I often see eagles and stuff that I want to photograph.

I am not full of cash.

How long focal length to I need to get for bird photos? I have a Tamron 70-300 which is a brilliant budget lens. But 300 is too short.

Give me your suggestions: which lens for bird photography for Pentax K1 for less than $500 (used)?

This is a damn good camera. I have had mine for 2 weeks and shot over 2 000 shots with it. All this complaining about battery, for me it's totally fine. I don't have an issue with battery. But. I fell down a mountain and ruined the LCD screen. So that's a bummer. But the sensor, lens and everything else works. I can see what I'm shooting on the LCD, but there is a big crack and some purple there so I can't touch to focus. But with the many focus options it's fine. Amazing quality for such a little lens.

Beautiful dog and great shots.

I love the look of the photos from this lens. And I want to get it (of course), just having a hard time seeing how it's worth 3-4 times more than what I paid for a very nice used 43 mm limited. I know the 50 is slightly sharper and generally better. But how much better? It's the same with the old 50 mm dfa 1.4. I know it's too soft wide open but you can get it at almost 1/10 of the price of the new lens.

Still, I want to get it, preferably a used one so I can save.

Thanks Adam!

So when I get the "beep" focus confimation sound, will this beeb be reliable or is it not reliable on lenses faster than f/2.8?

Yes i mean f/2 :)

---------- Post added 06-12-19 at 03:18 AM ----------

Thanks buddy! So there is no optical limitation stopping the focus peak from working on faster lenses than f/2.8?

My preferred way is using the viewfinder and getting the beep, I know it's a shallow depth of field but it doesnt bother me. I would like to do head shots on f/2 with the 135 lens. But people are telling me this is not possible without a different focusing screen or by using the liveview (I'm not a big fan of liveview, i do a lot of handheld shots).

Hi!

So people are telling me that with an f.2 manual lens on the Pentax K-1, I won't be able to get he right focus through my viewfinder using focus peaking. This is because the focusing screen doesn't work with manual lenses faster than f2.8.

Is this true?

So if I want to use my insanely good Rokinon 135 mm f.2 lens wide open I will have to resort to using liveview?

Thanks a lot guys for all your good suggestions. I'll use the 50 mm f.17 instead of the 1.2. Maybe the 1.2 is too shallow anyway.

So regarding the reversed lens setup: I cant use the 100 mm wr closest to the camera house, put on a reverse coupler and stack the 50 mm f 1.7 on the outside?

I also bought the Raynox since it seems more competent people than me have found it useful :) The pricing was quite good to at around $66 :)

Hey!

I bought the ebook from this site (pretty rad), and on page 255 it says there is an option that will allow you to take multiple exposures with one click. Quote: "Set the drive mode to Multi-Exposure or Multi-Exposure+Continuous (When using continuous pressing the shutter release once will automatically trigger the number of shots chosen)."

I can't get the one click to work.

What am I doing wrong? I've tried all 4 options under Multi-Exposure

I am using Pentax K-1

---------- Post added 12-23-18 at 04:03 AM ----------

I can do it easily with the D850 but unfortunately the maximum amounts of exposures are 10 :(

I assumed the 100 mm would stay closest to the camera so I could set aperture on the camery body and use manual aperture on the outer 50 mm lens?

It was a good example, Brian! :)

Kozlok: no need to apologize. Thank you for sharing.

Update: I've ordered a 49 mm to 49 mm reverse adapter (is that the right name?) off eBay. Considering the low price paired with the opportuinity to use lenses I already have ( such as the 50 mm vintage lenses), this seems to be the sensible point of start :) Can't wait to try!

Thanks to everyone.

If there are other inputs, keep on posting. It's an interesting thread! :)

So the filter size of the 100 mm is 49 mm. I have several vintage Pentax 50 mm'ers. But I would like to try the 50 mm f 1.2 reversed. I think the filter size there is 49 too.

So would 49mm to 49mm Male Photo Lens Reverse Adapter Macro Coupler Adaptor Ring 6950291597496 | eBay this work?

What magnification would I then get?

Sorry I'm answering in the wrong order here, a little confused by the forum. I can't like your posts on computer too. But I greatly appreciate all the tips and the different things you guys prefer.

One thing I love about Pentax is the ability to use old, inexpensive lenses with great glass :) So the solution of stacking lenses sounds intriguing.

Here is an example of how I've used my Pentax 100 mm macro wr so far. Lovely, sharp lens.

That sounds awesome and I love my old prime lenses. Do you need an adapter to use reverse lenses in front?

Thanks a lot Brian.

So both a 1.4 teleconverter and the Raynox will give good quality photos and higher than 1:1 magnicifaton? 😊

---------- Post added 12-22-18 at 06:51 AM ----------

Thank you very much 😊

Is that as an alternative to teleconverter and the raynox thing?

Question: what is a reverse lens? It can be added on top of the 100 mm macro? What about costs and image quality?
