Check the lens contacts in the camera body. If one is bent, dirty or otherwise deformed it may not autofocus.

It is a re-branded Fujian. Nothing special, there are numerous reviews of it on the internet. Not as sharp as the 06 or a Cosmicar 50mm.

I had one and let it go.

I've had mine for six years now and I still use it regularly. It is great for twilight shooting, a great sensor and the view screen is better than an optical viewfinder in that situation.

One warning: check your mode dial from time to time, they have been known to come off. Mine was loose and I fixed it with some sticky adhesive in sheet form, the kind used for mounting prints.

Pentax 6x7 vs 645 systems Advantages and Disadvantages?

I've had a Pentax 6x7 , a Mamiya 645 as well as modern APS-C digital cameras. I also used to use an Imacon scanner on 6x7 negs when I was still working in a photo lab. Taking into consideration what others have said about the age and reliability of older 67s, you should only go into it if you really like the "film look" you get from the larger 6x7 format. If you are going to shoot b&w you really need to know advanced development techniques.

In my opinion 645 film isn't worth the trouble for the small advantage it gives over your existing KP, you won't see any gain in resolution or tonality.

I would get customers that complained about my 200mb scans from 6x7 film as not being as detailed as a dslr. It was because the film grain limited the resolution.

If it was my choice I would stick with the KP or, if I had FF lenses already, go with a K-1 with pixel shift, it will give you better results than the 67 with film.

Good luck.

DA* 16-50mm F2.8 ED AL [IF] SDM as a screwdriver-only travel zoom?

As an owner of a DA 16-50 who has taken it on a trip I would recommend against it. The poor performance of the wide end at wide apertures negates the purpose of toting it around. The DA 20-40 is half the weight (and much cheaper) and gives better results. If you are able to stitch panoramas you can get as wide as you want. Neither lens is a true telephoto, unless you get the DA 16-50 really cheap for the same amount of money you could get the DA 20-40 and an FA 100mm f3.5 Macro, a combo that would weigh less than the DA 16-50 and give you much better IQ.

I lost a 44mm lens cap that slipped out of my hand and rolled off a bridge over a highway overpass in Reykjavík. I saw it float down into a thick patch of long grass and I knew it wouldn't be likely I'd find it at night in the rain. To console myself I went to the world-famous hot dog stand where I promptly found a 2000kr bill (about $18 USD) and figured it was a wash. I never did replace the cap.

Good cameras no doubt but compared to the 8 year old K-01 they have poor battery life, irritating menus, mediocre ergonomics, no IBIS and no green button!

The K-01 fit in seamlessly with the Pentax system without adapters however, and was a great backup camera for a Pentax dslr.

The K-01 was initially over-priced and would have been even more so if it had been introduced with a EVF. As I recall, EVF's in general weren't very good in 2011.

I used an Imacon (same thing before Hasselblad bought it out) for several years when I was working. There wasn’t a negative that it couldn't handle.
Great piece of equipment.

Missing Rubber Grip on Lens - Replacement

I've used a similar product on a variety of photo items, it really is a good solution.

It gives a good grip without being too rough.

It is great for slippery camera bodies too.

Another nice thing is that is doesn't peel up at the corners but if you want to remove it it will peel without leaving a sticky mess.

06 Lens autofocus dead

It is a known issue and no, probably not. Usually they go completely dead, you can't even manually focus. Mine went out after about 4 hours of use as well, although that might be a coincidence.
I've bought two more, they have been OK so far.

I think that the 06 was just a little under-engineered; it seems flimsy compared to the 01, the 02 and the 08. Some posters here haven't had any problems with theirs, maybe it was a bad run?

I took my broken one apart and it is all plastic and circuitry inside, I think the circuitry goes bad for some reason.

I've had various Pentax 50s and if I had to keep only only one it would be the M 50mm f1.4. The "glow" wide open is a nice thing to have once in a while, as is the shallower DOF. Stopped down, they are all about the same, even the lowly 50mm f2.
