There is an old saying. Two is one and one is none. When I travel I always take a minimum of two cameras and use them both. If I were to take my K3 with me too it would be relegated to backup and packed in a separate bag with appropriate lenses.

Currently I own a K5-IIs, K3, K1 and K1-II. The last time I went to Yellowstone I only took the two K1's. One usually had the D FA 150-450 and the other usually the D FA 28-105. i did take a slew of other lenses though just in case. The new APSc camera will have to huge step up in the area AF and write speed if I am going to purchase it. Right now my K3 is rarely used and my K5-IIs is pretty much neglected. I also had a K5 but that is no longer in my possession.

I don't look at the second body as a backup. Separate camera with different a lens attached. Changing lenses can be a tricky time. Lower odds of a mishap and less chance of dirt of moisture getting in your camera.

Racer,

Are you going to see Ford vs Ferarri? I'm old enough to remember those races. Awesome days in auto history.

Kind of late now but when I photograph the sun directly I make cover for the front of the the lens with an piece of opaque plastic with a small aperture. This allows a lot less light into the lens and is safer all around. The last transit of Venus I took my old Jason telescope and projected the image onto a white card and watched it that way. The neighborhood kids got a big kick out of it too.

Wow. Around here some stations carry 90 octane real gasoline. Cost about $3.35 a gallon. It's what I use in my Nissan Frontier to. A little more pep and better gas mileage. The whole adding alcohol to gasoline thing the a scam. No way lower gas mileage and more damage to engines is good for the environment .

Fired up the snowblower yesterday to prep for a snowstorm. It has been half full of gas since last March or so. I added some Stabil when I put it away. Started right up after sitting for 8 months. Stabil and Sea Foam are your friends.

I just tossed a 55? year old Panasonic AM/FM radio that I purchased as a teen. I have a hand forged cross peen hammer that is pushing 200 years old. Handle has been replaced a few times over the centuries but it is my favorite hammer to use. I use it as a tribute to the blacksmith who forged it all those years ago.

If you were using gasoline with 10% alcohol in it that is the problem. It really gums up the carburetors on lawn equipment as they sit around with long periods between starting. Look around for any gas stations that sell real gasoline and use that for lawn mowers, snow blowers etc. I would take the trimmer to get repaired. Once in awhile add a little "Sea Foam" to the gas. It is great for keeping your carburetor clean. Once it is working again add add Stabil to the gas as mentioned above. It really works.

New to us a an artificial Christmas tree with 700 LED lights. Does patterns and everything. Have a choice of "warm" white or colors. The cat is mightily impressed. At 54 pounds (23 kg) we are hoping the cat cannot pull this one down. Already up without and decorations on it. We wanted to make sure it works and have the novelty of it wear off for the cat before we decorate it. Even has a remote!!!!!

Mamiya/Sekor 500 DTL - Very nice camera but the light meter needed repair a few times. My fist SLR.

Ricoh XR-M - have two. Really good camera.

Kodak Retina Reflex that took 126 film cartridges instead of 35mm film. - got it used for the novelty of the system. Awesome lenses on that camera.

Shutter shock

Shutter shock is a resonant frequency vibration. As weight changes, the problem may go away. My K3 with my D FA 150-450 lens on it has an artifact at 1/2000 sec that looks a lot like shutter shock too. My K1 has it, my K1-II seems not to.

On my K1 you do not have to pixel peep to see the problem and no amount of sharpening gets rid of it. I do not see it on my very early images made with the camera. It developed after several hundred images. I do regret that I did not send my K1 in for the upgrade. If only to see if there was something done during the upgrade that eliminated the problem.

Nonsense. In 1991 We loaded the four boys (ages 5 -12) into our Ford Aerostar minivan, hooked up our Jayco pop-up tent trailer and headed out west. By the time we got home almost 5 weeks later we had covered 9,100 miles (14,000 Km or so). Covered 19 states, 19 national parks, various state parks etc. Stayed up in the northern part of the country too.

What is funny is that our boys saw the Pacific Ocean before they saw the Atlantic . Also saw the Rocky Mountains before they saw the Adirondacks and they are only 2 and 1/2 hours from where we live. Awesome trip and since we camped the whole way, we did the whole trip for what it would have cost me to take the family to a Disney property for 4 days.

One morning as we headed out, the kids asked how far we had to go that day. I answered 250 miles. Their response was "That's no too bad.".

Pretty neat shot. I showed up over 68 years ago myself. There is a certain thread on this board that is kept going because if it stops, Godzilla will attack Tokyo again. Seems the bugger is quite a fan of the thread and does not want to take a chance on missing any comments.

Savoche, one of the things kids that lived in the country did for fun was cow tipping. Cows would sleep standing up and the bigger kids would sneak up to one and push it over. I figure the closest thing to a cow where you are would be a cape buffalo. I hear that they are gentle souls and may even appreciate the humor of the situation. A video would be pretty cool.

I could do it in two days but now that i am retired I like to stop and smell the flowers along the way. Quirky local museums are the best. Usually they are started by people with an intense interest in a subject and not run by professional curators who are basically like any other business manager.

Not sure of hours. About 2,100 miles driving or so. Splits as follows:

Day 1 - Rochester, NY to Des Moines, Iowa. 940 miles. Longest day of driving. I split off of I90 in western Indiana to skip driving through Chicago
.

Day 2 - Des Moines, IA to as far as Gilette, WY. I80 to I29N to I90W to cross South Dakota. Probably about 650 miles, but speed limit is 80mph. May or may not stop at Badlands, NP along the way. Start driving about 07:00. Stop about 18:00 or so. Depends upon how we are doing.

Day 3 - Stay on I90 until we get to Livingston, MT and then take Rte 89 south to Gardiner, MT. Usually arrive in the middle of the afternoon. Check into the hotel and then hit the northern area of the park. About 550 miles or so to Gardiner.

We stay in Gardiner for the whole time we are there. Less crowded. Close to the Lamar Valley where a lot of the wildlife is. Then we poke around the park as we see fit. Stay 5 nights. We usually do breakfast at hotel (included in the rate) at 6:00AM and are in the park at 6:30 to 6:45. This gives us a few hours to hit the hot spots before they become crowded.

One the way home we drive as the mood fits us. May or may not take the same route etc. I have been retired for 3 years and my wife just retired this year so the only pressure for time is our reservations in Gardiner MT. The 80MPH speed limit out west really allows you to cover ground.

I much prefer driving to flying. Flying has become something that has to be endured rather than enjoyed. in 2018 I met up with aslyfox in Yellowstone. He flew up from about 1,000 miles away. He flew home, ran into several delays and it took him two days to get home and me three. I find driving out west very relaxing. Once one gets past Chicago traffic really lets up.

If we took 4 days to drive out we would simply do more sightseeing. We live in a beautiful country. The photo below is in Yellowstone at the top of Mammoth Hot Springs.

Well my latest acquisition is new brake pads and rotors for my Nissan Frontier. They were still legal, but since it was in the shop anyway I told them to go ahead and install them. New tires next spring and all set for another trip to Yellowstone next May.

It was not a factor in my decision to get a K1, but since I got the camera it has proven to be a very handy addition. Clever design too.

When a man falls in love with a woman he looks at her and says "Perfect". When a woman meets a man and falls in love with him she says "Now there is a man a can do a life long improvement project with." My wife is not happy when I say this, but she does like bacon so we have been married 43 years. Not sure how much I have been improved.
