Color fringing

It's called longitudinal chromatic aberration. Many/most lenses don't correct for this perfectly, it's rather common if you have the right conditions of high contrast out of focus areas such as your example. It's less noticeable for regular photos i think simply because things kind of blend in.

Semi off topic, but I'd say embrace this color contrast for non-test shots by placing a warmer (artificial) light on the subject and having other parts of the image a cooler tone. Sometimes I add this slight shift in wb in post if it suits the scene to guide the eye from cool to warm colors.

On that page, Theta Z1 is also shown as discontinued, which is probably an error? It's hasn't been launched that long ago.

Lens upgrade for wildlife photography

If this is just one trip, and it's not a recurring frustration, I'd rent a lens. In my case, last year i went from k3+55-300 plm to a m43 camera and lens because my priorities were reach and lightweight (so i could bike and hike with the kit)

EVF Magnification

My Panasonic G95 has 0.74 magnification (relative to ff), while the K1 has 0.7. Not noticeable in practice and I wouldn't want a larger viewfinder since when I've used one, such as older film cameras, I had trouble seeing it all with eyeglasses.

That's for apsc size, the ff equivalent is 0.7. Found this nice conversion chart. I'm not sure why manufacturers report relative to the sensor size in the first place, since what matters to me is the image that I see. 1.05/0.7 is quite a bit larger than previous models indeed

Macro lens on K1 to digitize 645 B/W negs

If you're looking at single shot per frame, and especially if you work with larger than 645, I'd get a 50mm lens, though you already have a 50mm. Maybe an extension tube for the FA 50 would be enough, and also much cheaper than a new lens? I scan 35mm film with K1+100mm wr, and the working distance is comfortable at 1:1 pointed down to a desk. I'm not so sure for ~1:2 that 645 film would require, and personally I wouldn't want to walk back and forth like in your photo, with the vertical setup I finish a roll in a few minutes once it's setup. 100mm would allow you to stitch multiple 1:1 shots per negative to maximize resolution.

SOOC: a detrimental choice or beneficial?

I think there little substitute for good light and composition, and in fact I tend to like editing as little as possible just to enhance what's already there. Every time I've tried to save an image it didn't work. I've been perfectly happy with many sooc images as well. So yes, if what you feel you need to improve is composition then of course work on that.

It also depends on how you interpret scenes. Especially for landscape or more abstract images, I started to think about editing part of taking the photo -- what I'll crop, edit locally, or clone, if anything -- not as an after thought. It's forced me to analyze things in more detail, including exposure and composition.

Some raw editors have lens profiles to apply these correction. Some free options include rawtherapee and darktable, which use the lensfun lens profile database (Lensfun's coverage), also DCU that comes with Pentax cameras.

I had a pocketable nikon p&s, i believe it was 14mp and i also remember it brought little additional detail over the next setting. At the time I thought it had to do with aggressive noise reduction, and being a basic camera it had no raw support to confirm.

Ricoh GR freezing

Is it the 8mp gr digital? If so, there's a common issue where grime gets in the adj wheel and it causes the camera to freeze. More frequent use and wiping gently with alcohol has helped in my experience.

Nice image to start with, I like the left-right transition from warm to cool colors, and of course the overall scene and conditions are wonderful. To adjust for my taste, I find the top left side is too bright and with nothing to balance on the right side, and the big dark empty area on the bottom left is too heavy. Here's what I have with a quick edit to crop to 16:9, lift some shadows, and local edits to balance the image.
