Lovely, pity that it does not have an electronic viewfinder. I think it would be a bit difficult to handhold it with a lens like the Sigma 15-500 zoom, and that is important in wild life, aviation and sport photography where a tripod is useless and a long lens is required.

I kow that these trucks were in service during WW2 as my father often told me about them, they were used bt the SADF and this could be one of them and might be one that was used to reach a ship that was wrecked on the coast. Lovely image and it is amazing how the truck is still in fairly good condition after all these years. The RHD is a indication that it was a SA Military truck.
It would be super to bring it back and restore it.:D The tyres were so that it could be driven on the sand as the standard tyres would just sink in.

Some Thoughts Pentax and Full Frame

I had a good giggle at the remark that someone made that canon lenses are of better quality than Pentax. I think Pentax lenses are just as good as Canon or Nikon and that the maid difference in image is in the processor software that is used to give the Canon or Nikon look just as Pentax has it own look in the image. I read some years back that Leica used contrast to make their lenses appear more sharp than they really are. In the same way all lens manufactures use different degrees of true sharpness, contrast, coatings, different glass and a few other tricks to give the 'look' that they want for their brand. All designs use computer aided designs to create what can be considered a good lens so it is in the manufacturing tolerances and errors that cause variances within any batch of glass that cause a bad or good lens to come off the production lines. Just some thoughts on some facts. As far as FF verses smaller size sensors one must remember that a lens that covers a greater area requires less tolerances in manufacture where as a equal quality lens that is designed to be used with a small sensor has to have a greater close tolerance to manufacture so often a lens less than FF can be a far better lens overall and that its FF frame equal. Sensor pixel size is more important than size as it is equal to grain in film just as Kodakchrome 64 was a fine gran slide film and in B?W some makes even though were of a high speed still had fine grain as the salts used in its manufacture were small in crystal size. Things to think about.

Here is a little but dig in the side idea. (do not take it too serious.) get an assistant, someone to carry the heavy tripod for you. It really works, problem solved. I often get my son to carry 'extra' camera gear.

Landscape Autofocus Problems...

Was this on multi segment? Did you try spot focus. I have had the same problem in aviation photography and switched to spot and that worked fine. Skydiving photos with along lens at 500mm and blue sky is a real challenge to get both exposure and focus spot on, I normally use spot for both and bracket a little.

Elmo used to make cine cameras and other camera stuff way back. I think you are right it is a S1A being a UV type of filter but with a slightly warm effect adding some 'pink' colour to the image.

Leica, now those are good cameras, old school all the way except for digital storage and shooting modes. M9 is only 18mp. Wish Pentax would bring out something around 18 to 24 mp in FF or APC

The strange thing with this kind of thing is that planes for buildings and good maps are readily available from authorities and are a better source for terrorists. Taking a photograph is way too an openly activity, setting up a tripod and camera studying the subject and finding the right angle etc is a very busy activity and the photographer is easily noticed in doing all this and this makes him.her stand out and get noticed, someone who is up to no good does this in a manner that does not draw attention to themselves.

You can also use the internal star burst filter in the cameras filter effects or a star burst filter attached to the lens. I think a attachment filter gives a better and truer effect.

DUST MAPPING IS CLEAN - but still specks on my photos - what's up??

I have had similar problems where the dust detect failed to pick up the dust and a blower did the trick. I used the sky as a test. As there was nothing for the autofocus to focus on I set the lens to infinity and took a photo of the sky. Cleaned the sensor and did a re check, used my PC to do the check for the dust speck.

The focus "assist light" (actually the autofocus indicator) goes on and stays on then you are in focus, there is also normally a beep sound as well.

You can also use this method to drop the flash output of the pop up flash is the Vivitar works as a optical slave. Wrap about two layers of facial tissue (white) over the front of the pop up flash and secure with a elastic band.

Strange light readings with prime vs zoom

All hand held meters have a wide angle of view where as the TTL light reading would show a more spot reading of the scene. This is another take. This also could be another reason, average reading with the hand held and center weighted, multi segment or spot with the camera. All will give different readings of the same scene as well as focal length of the lens on the camera.

I sometimes fine that the best AF setting is spot and not any of those multi section settings, gives me spot on AF in all conditions. I am using a Kx. Try it on set on of the select zones for AF depending on the subject.

Have you tried manual focus? Does it do this with spot AF or auto select or with all the auto focus settings. I tend to only use spot auto focus and works fine all the time.
