Are the Focusing Screens for the Km, Kx, and Kr all the same?

Thanks.
I prefer the prism to judge, 'eyeballing it' just wasn't working.

I have the Km, and am considering a newer DSLR.
I have a few manual focus lenses and bought an upgrade to the Focusing Screen because the stock Km screen was hard for me to judge.

So, I'm curious if the screens for the 'newer' base model Pentax DSLRs are the same one, or splitscreen, or what?

Thanks.

(The above pic is my first entry in this thread, btw. )
To answer your question, I bought mine as an 'all-around' lens. This morning I took the k2000 out when I walked my dog. I bought it because I wanted a lens that would render shots a bit different than other lenses might, whilst still keeping sharpness and clarity. I did a few polls, and boardmembers seem to agree that the 43 was in the running.
I also wanted a lens in the 35-ish range, so this is a tad long, but still within limits. (I have to take a step back ; )

Well, you've been here long enough to where you'd know. I checked the lens database and the average is $40. But then again, the prices paid are anywhere from $15 to $100.
Also on ebay the lens doesn't seem to sell for more than $50.

...and for what it's worth, it did seem to be in good condition. No front lens cap, but it had one for the rear.

I see what you're saying.
Basically, I wanted a faster 50, so I bought the first 1.4 that came along. The Super Tak. I really like that lens, but wonder if I might be getting, perhaps, better contrast with one of the other versions.
But basically, I should either love my lens, or buy another and see which I think better suits me?

I went to a used camera shop in December in Providence, RI, and bought a Super Takumar 50mm 1.4 for $45

I went back in there this week and was looking at an M 28mm 2.8 and she told me she was asking $70.

Even the older lenses are apparently suffering.
( I politely said "No, thank you" and walked right out, btw)

Marc, but let's say in the above example, if they 'figured out' the best coatings in say, the SMC Pentax, or even an A version of a lens...then why would I purchase a Super Takumar lens?
What is it that the Super Takumars, let's say, do for me that the newer one's do not?
Build quality? Focus ring smoothness?

Keen idea: replace SMC 1.4/50 and F 1.7/50 with A 1.2/50 (?)

You know....I'm still a newb an all, but that "Normal Lens Shootout" MUST be taken with a grain of salt.
Check out the pics he took of the M50 1.7 and compare them to his 50 1.2
The 1.7 really blows it away.

If the only reason his "favorite lens" wins is because:
a) It's his favorite lens
b) It's the only one that is 1.2

...well, then thanks a lot for showing off so many lenses, you helped me gain some insight on many of these that I was curious about, and it must have taken him a lot of time to put that all together, but the only thing he proved was that 'favorite' doesn't always mean 'best'. In my opinion.

Whether the lens be a fast 50, a 28, or a 35, etc, what is the preferred order of greatness?

-K lens- I'm not sure how to even recognize this lens, but I THINK it just states "Pentax" on the front of the lens, no M or A

-A lens- Typically the build quality isn't as sturdy, but optically the same as below.
You can use your lightmeter with this lens though.

-M lens- As well built (though different outer design) than above.

-Super Takumar- Optically the same as below, except, less coatings than the SMC and Super Multi Coated which will show less contrast and more glare.

-SMC Takumar

-Super Multi Coated Takumar

K-X focus screen

I just bought a K2000 focusing screen (same as the kx, btw) and put it in on Saturday from focusingscreen.com
The directions are on their site on how to replace it. It's not that hard for this camera as all you REALLY have to do is use the metal tweezers they supply in the box for you to press a clip. The 'frame' holding the screen then pops out.
The only trouble I had was figuring out the right combination of shims to make the focus correct.
1 metal one comes with the camera under your screen.
2 plastic shims came with the screen.
After I replaced the screen and the lens. I used the newspaper trick to check the accuracy. It was off.
I went back to the website and there was an article about what to do about this.
The box also supplies you with 2 plastic shims. I tried every combination, but what seemed to work for me was the 2 plastic shims by themselves under the screen.

2 sidenotes:
-I put a little scratch in the focusing screen because I was taking it in and out of the camera so often, I got cocky. Bottom corner, no big deal.
-The top to bottom focus is spot on now, but the center is a little to the left of my ACTUAL subject.
I didn't put the old screen back in to see if this is how it always was, as it's really miniscule and I think if it REALLY mattered a crop would handle it in PP.

For a while there I was looking at 50 1.2 prices on ebay, and while I was searching I'd occassionally find a lens that stated it was 1.2 but then the picture clearly shows it as f:2. Everytime I would contact the seller and ask them to correct their item description, and they either would say they would, and never do. Or, just not respond.
Be careful.

And incidentally, the M50 1.7 is a great lens, you'll love it.

Thanks for remembering.
I contacted the supplier and they honorably sent me a new M42 adapter.
I've taken some great shots with the Super Tak 1.4, and then I also bought a M 50 1.7, which I tend to use more now.
I'm debating 'fixing' the adapter to the Super lens so I don't have to mess with it.

The first adapter never did show up.

Nope. It's me. I'm, like a huge jinx or something.
I finally buy a house and a year later my house is worth 3/4 of what I paid.
I buy a Pentax camera and a few months later all the lenses cost more than my camera.

It's me, Dude.

-sorry.

[newbie] I'm sorry, what exactly did you do again to get these shots? Because that's awesome that we can do that with a non-macro lens. [/newbie]
