Sold anyway, and I didn't bid either - suddenly needed the money for something else (typical woman - food more important than something longer lasting !).

Now that the UK pubs are open again (YIPPEE !!!!!), I have of course been doing as much as I can to ensure that alcohol is not consumed by those who cannot handle it. In a pub the other night, got talking to a chap called Leslie - we touched on work, lockdown, etc, I then asked about his family, and he told me he had an identical twin.

I asked his twin's name, and he replied 'Same as mine'.

I asked if that did not lead to confusion, and he replied 'No, not really. She usually wears a dress'.

The wearing of face masks is supposed to make everybody safer.

I was in the bank the other day behind a couple wearing masks.

Since I never know which lens I'll want to use - body cap on body, rear lens caps on each lens I own, so I can take any of them out; and genuine M42 to Pk adapter in camera bag, in case vintage glass comes with me.

Found this misleading listing :

olympus 28mm f3.5 Lens. *Great condition Olympus Asahi lens/ 49mm Pentax filter | eBay

Contacted the seller - this is the result :

Hi,

May I politely and respectfully point out that this lens does NOT fit a Pentax camera. Just because it has a Pentax filter attached does not make it a Pentax-fit lens. You may wish to amend the listing.

Tony

Tony,

The title does clearly state that it is an OLYMPUS lens!!

Rather than spending your time trawling through listings looking for errors where none are present, can I politely suggest that you LEARN to read and then find someone else to bother with you mundanity.

Thank you...

2caryn0n8z

Thank you for your somewhat abrupt and confrontational response. May I quote from your own listing : 'Great condition Olympus Asahi lens/ 49mm Pentax filter'. Firstly, Asahi is a registered Pentax trademark - this lens cannot be described as such. Secondly, as someone with such a great knowledge of photography as yourself must know, before adopting the OM mount system, Olympus did indeed manufacture lenses with the ubiquitous 42mm 'Pentax' thread mount - this is not one of them either.

I was merely attempting to assist you before someone believed your deliberately misleading listing and purchased this item expecting it to fit a Pentax camera, either 42mm or PK mount. No doubt if this happens you will be as polite to them as you have been to me, and will face a claim via eBay from the unhappy purchaser. You have my best wishes.

Tony

Some people you just can't help.

Why not use it on a Pentax ? That is, after all, what it was designed for.

With my (very limited) experience of macro work, two factors work against each other - you need a small aperture for DOF, but a fast shutter speed to avoid camera movement (or, indeed, subject movement). Increasing ISO only helps to an extent, before noise becomes obtrusive.

To increase your success rate (and confidence !), try practising on stationary subjects - as @3by2 suggests, a tripod (or even a monopod) may help to prevent camera movement. With the camera / lens combo well supported, manual focusing using Live View is worthwhile investigating as well.

Good luck

For me, with little technical capabilities, an interesting and thought provoking topic. Currently, i have K10D and K20D bodies, I shoot exclusively RAW (originally PEF, now DNG), using 32 gb cards (as that is the largest the bodies will take [firmware up-to-date on each]). Usually between 100 and 400 ISO, at max resolution. Having just checked, I seem to average 'around' 1300 shots per card, but I always try to avoid filling them totally, so maybe I could squeeze a few more on. I keep a spare card in the battery grip of each camera, so i always have both a spare and somewhere to store the completed card.

When I get my K3 (when finances permit !), I may well, once I have used my stock of spare 32 gb cards (always had this irrational fear of running out of 'recording media', even when shooting film), I'll see how I get on with 64 gb cards, but the advice not to put 'all my eggs in one basket' may cause me to re-think this.

Thanks for making me think, and for once, plan ahead.

But it's not only me - inanimate objects do it too ! I put something down on a surface I can clearly see from the corner of my eye, only to find that gravity has played tricks with me yet again. I have one of those long-handled 'grabbers' to pick up small items from the floor, so that I don't join them - but what the funicular railway do I do when I drop that ?

Answers on a high-value bank note, or blank cheque, please.
