I think they need to leak something tasty at this point to put doubt in the minds of potential A1 customers - and most of the R5 rumours that seemed unlikely turned out true, so...

some may say it's burned out, but to me it's a celebration of the sun, which we haven't seen much of recently (K-1 +24-70)

Just anecdotally, for sure, but I've been seeing a lot more love around here for the KP than when it was issued -maybe, as suggested above, there was a mismatch between what it cost to produce and what people were prepared to pay and that's been addressed by price drops, but a lot was to do also with it being not what people wanted as a replacement to the K-3 - it's simply a different type of camera.

Now, it looks to me to fit into the Pentax fold much better than the K-70, which is really just an old-fashioned entry level (though a higher entry point than some) and won't have the distinctive niche the KP does in the line-up.If they can't afford to make it at the price people are prepared to pay, that would, of course be a problem, but I'd rather see a KPii and drop the K-70

Well, they did say at one stage that the KP was the K-3ii replacement - makes perfect sense :D

Big mistake IMHO, if true, unless they really don't have the capacity to have 3 APS-C lines - OR a replacement is coming soon :)

Calling all speculators. Will the next K-1 have the same tech as the K-3iii?

The K-3iii suggests to me that there is a further move towards differentiation into a FF 'field' camera and an APS-C action camera rather than essentially two general purpose cameras in different formats- so I would expect (hope) that the FF will continue to have the features that make it great for what it does, which include the articulating rear screen and (for me) integrated GPS. On top of this there should be more developments like touch screen new prism glass, more FPS, 4K video etc just because the work has been done already - and they should push the Mp to competitive levels without sacrificing DR - Hand held Pixel shift? I wonder - it didn't take the world by storm in the K-1ii, and needs more work, but if they try to improve IBIS, there might be spin-offs that improve this.

Thank you - yes, it's a LR preset of my own design that I use a lot for urban scenes - it creates some of the detachment of B&W in scenes where B&W doesn't quite work

Slightly tangentially, what one has to accept also (which took me a while to get over) is that putting 'built like a tank' as a pro and 'heavy' as a con isn't a contradiction even though the one is largely a consequence of the other - if you don't need your camera to be built like a tank, then 'heavy' is a price you might rather not pay.

I've thought about that recently as well - the English language version of the website is fine, but we do have to rely on a few Japanese speakers here for a lot of other information - and it's particularly strange as Ricoh's sales more generally are not at all Japan-centered- and they wouldn't be the size they are today if they were!

I think a lot of it is a sort of memetic 'wisdom' passed on between people ho have little love for or experience of Pentax and part of the pro-MILC agenda which we all know are superior in every way to DSLRs

Sensor in K1 MkII successor?

Probably when they started work on the K-1 they chose the highest Mp sensor in current use, - though it wan't by the time the camera was released. I don't know when planning started for the next FF, but, by the same logic, I'd assume they'd have gone for the 45Mp, of the options listed by the OP - and that seems to be the most popular choice here

Further to this -

As somebody who has never used a camera with a joystick, can a joystick in general or this one in particular be used to activate AF as well as to select the point? The reason for asking is that I massively prefer rear button AF, but moving between buttons while my eye is on the finder isn't my strong suit :( :)

It seems the only rationale for having a joystick, so perhaps people are just taking it for granted that that will be the implementation, as Pentax are about the last to have one.

Yuh - I can see their logic, perhaps, in terms of automation vs control, but I agree that the conclusion (as represented here) seems wrong- there are, after all, plenty of semi-automated features on a modern camera, not just full auto or full manual.

Just for clarity, this is the bit of the OPs post I was referring to:

'It's possible to feed lots of e.g. airplane pictures to train the deep learning algorithm, which could then be released as the new firmware. (Wakashiro san didn't say that that's what they'll do.)'

Which to me implies they could - I'm sort of interested in the would and should

Ah yes - I'd forgotten about that - things have moved on though -time to try again?

The only real logic to this is that it prevents even more memory and computing space being taken up by features that individual photographers might not want - but my abilities such as they are are as a photographer, not a programmer or electronic engineer, so I'm really talking on a philosophical level about whether that sort of thing is a good idea,
