It looks ugly as sin, but if Ricoh makes a few extra bucks from collectors on this, than that's fine by me. At least it's not as ugly as a certain Lenny Kravitz special edition camera.

K-3 Exposure problem continuous shooting

Are you using any automatic exposure mode? I find when I shoot aperture priority I get slight variations on exposure when using continuous mode, but that's likely normal. I've never had drastic exposure changes however.

Restoring an aperture lever?

I think it's Canon shooters you need to blame. There's no logical reason for a Sony shooter to ever have to remove the aperture lever. Canon shooters remove it because it interferes with the mirror on their full frame cameras.

Okay, it looks like there's a gradient of uneven exposure along the bottom of the image, I thought that was what you were referring to. I guess that is just what the scene looks like.

I found the first version really poor. It may have been my copy but my 18-135 was much sharper at equivalent apertures.

Video cameras of course, since the eighties.

If you want to draw a distinction between "photo" cameras and "film" cameras, I guess that's fine, but I wouldn't be surprised of a company that has had decades of experience producing optical components wanting to branch out into consumer photography.

Recommend a Minolta X-700 Replacement

The Super Program is the equivalent to the X-700 in Pentax-Land. No aperture readout in the viewfinder and awful push button shutter speed selection is the downside. I think because Asahi's obsession with buttons following the success of the ME Super, you will not quite find an equivalent camera in Pentax's range to the X-700. If you don't need TTL Flash and full program mode, I'd recommend the KX or MX. They're wonderful cameras and fully mechanical and as a result, will not crap out due to faulty eighties electronics the way two of my X-700s have.

DP Review puts K-1 Mark II as second worst camera of 2018

I wouldn't generalize. My local camera store has wonderful service. I've seen employees answer basic questions of people that were mind numbingly simple with incredible patience and class. Every time you walk in the store you're greeted by smiles and some of the employees remember my name. They dress in polo shirts and jeans, but I don't think you need to dress fancy to sell cameras. In fact, I think many of my generation perceive someone dressed up too much trying to sell you something as a somewhat of a huckster. In fact, dressing like a car salesman is considered an insult, because that's the stereotype of someone who is trying to separate you from your money wearing a fake smile and a suit.

On the other hand, I recently visited Austin and needed to buy film while I was there. I visited the forum's favorite company Precision Camera. The clerk was incredibly rude, not looking at me and grumbling his responses. When I asked about Kodak Gold and Ultramax he asked another employee to help him find the "amateur film" with a snarky voice. When that employee was confused he had to tell her he was looking for Kodak Gold. In the end they didn't have any, I had to settle for Fuji 400 and a roll of waaaaay overpriced ProH 400. I left missing my local store very much.

The good old "exposure" angle:
You're doing it for the EXPOSURE - The Oatmeal

I think the point is for this company to get marketing material from photographers without having to pay actual photographers to produce work for them. This is why artist labor is so undervalued, because so many artists are willing to give their work away for free. If the toilets broke at Irix's HQ, I'm sure every plumbing company in the region would be lining up to fix them for all of the promotion they would get. It would only be good marketing. Ask any non-creative to produce work for you for "promotion" and watch them laugh in your face.

If I wasn't clear, I don't regret my purchase one tiny bit, I just lament that 2014 me would have never bought into Pentax if I had today's market, if I never had the chance to pick up and hold a Pentax, I probably would have just bought a Nikon.

If my local Target didn't have a K-50 in stock, I would have never bought a K-3 from B&H. Being able to touch and feel is really important for me. The K-50 reassured me with it's wildly superior build quality to the Rebels and D3100's/D5300s it sat next to. Now, every authorized RI retailer location within 200 miles of me is "Theta Product Only" while my local camera store has every camera brand in stock to pick up and look at except Pentax. My local Best Buy even carries Fuji cameras now. 2014 me would have just bought a Nikon instead.

Also safety. The "space age materials" make cars much safer in collisions than steel due to how steel transfers energy.

What Is Up With K1000 Prices?

They are indeed going up. I missed the boat on one with a 40mm pancake on the forums here for I think it was about a hundred bucks about six months ago. It was already sold by the time I inquired, but the guy was selling another one with a 28 for 80$.

Mighty Mike is currently selling a working MX missing the power winder door for 78$ US, not a bad deal tbh, about what a decent K1000 will run.

I'm not sure what your point is, but my point is that the price of the k1000 is inflated way above what it should cost because it's so commonly recommended to beginners.

I could be wrong, but I've seen MXs sell for barely more than K1000s, and the MX is ten times the camera. Here's one being sold for a cool hundred bucks, not much higher priced than a typical K1000. This untested K1000 has two days of bidding left and it's already at 56$.

And that's partially my point. People just assume someone is doing it for attention. I know quite a few people who lug around film cameras, and they take quite a few pictures. I've never encountered the mythical hipster who wears a film camera as jewelry. At my local photo store, the young guys and girls who work at the film lab seem way more passionate about photography than the older guys who work at the digital camera area.

It's just something that bothers me a bit. I've been called a hipster before just because I "listen to music that no one has heard of". Yeah and I'm sure all the people at my local record store are buying records just to look cool, rather than simply they are passionate about music.

It's interesting about your comment about Teslas, making the assumption that people who drive Teslas don't work. That's literally the first time I've seen or heard someone say that hipsters drive Teslas, which further bolsters my point that calling someone a hipster is meaningless. My conservative religious boss who is the complete opposite of what most would call a hipster drives a Tesla. I don't know where you live, but the local wealthy town doesn't have any Camrys or Accords littering the mansions and downtown, it's filled with flashy Porsches, BMWs, Volvos, Audis, Mercedes, and even Lamborghinis.

I just think it's kind of reductive to tell someone who asks "why are the prices of K1000s so high?" that it's because of shallow hipsters. It denigrates young people who have discovered a new passion. It's probably more accurate and helpful to say that it's the most commonly recommended student camera there is. Every photography YouTube channel I follow has done a video about the K1000, and don't think most photography influencers ever mention any 35mm Pentax other than the K1000. My most recent annoyance about this was the Camera Store guys saying in their year end review that Pentax needs to make a digital K1000. It's like Pentax doesn't exist after 1975. It's sad, but it keeps the price of MXs, KXs, and Super Programs from getting inflated too much.

I think the point is it is a high cost when comparing it to higher spec'd Pentax cameras (which it is), not luxury cameras. :? I got my KX with three lenses for about 80$, or the general price of a K1000 by itself.

"Hipster" is the new word that old people like to throw around at kids doing things they don't understand. Reading photo comments, only hipsters shoot Leica, polaroid, film cameras, Fuji cameras, Sonys, Canons, TLRs, Lens Babys, etc, etc, etc. There is no universal meaning for hipster, only "I don't personally see the value in that so they must just do it to be cool"

Best cheap thin 50?

Yeah, you want a MX then, I'd keep on the lookout for an MX anyway, I've seen them sold with a 50 for 125$ or so. I curse the late 70s-80s era industrial design, where everything started becoming plastic and push buttons became the norm. The ME Super would have been so much better with a shutter speed dial. It shouldn't be hard to find a 50 1.7 for cheap. Make sure you get an M version, the aperture ring is much better.

Well if you're patient you can definitely find a ME for less than 50$, or a ME Super for maybe 75$ if you want full manual control. You can always use a ME with the 100 shutter speed and just use the aperture ring if you want more manual control.

Hmm, I bike 3-4 times a week with my KX and K 55mm, which is a larger lens than my A 50 1.4, and I've never had a problem with the camera being obtrusive. I've even biked with my Topcon RE Super and 50 1.4 and hood, which is a huge setup and it has never given me problems. What camera are you putting the lens on? You might get more milage out of buying a Pentax ME (if you don't mind aperture priority). It's the smallest 35mm SLR if I'm not mistaken, and tiny.

Berlin, Prague, or Dresden?

Prague is beautiful, and a wonderful city to explore if you just have a day. There's multiple free walking tours a day. The architecture is absolutely stunning. The locals keep the city gorgeous and clean. I was there on Christmas Eve (this is when locals celebrate the holiday) and by the end of the evening there was garbage all over the streets. The next morning the city was so spotless it looked like no one lived there.

All that said, I'd personally go for Berlin. Prague is beautiful, but it feels like Disney Land, it's so sickeningly gorgeous and clean it feels a bit fake. Berlin has much more varied architecture, you get a wonderful juxtaposition of the old with the new. There's a bit of grunge if you like that. There's more open spaces if you're trying to be slow and deliberate. There's a lot to see too, with a much more real modern city feeling. Take that in to account if you prefer slice of life street photos. Most importantly for myself, the locals seemed a whole lot more friendly In Berlin and made me feel safe. The people of Prague reminded me of New York: everyone is grumpy, there's a sense that the locals don't like tourists and the ones which are pleasant make you worried that they're trying to rip you off.
