Does this also fit the KP? I.e. is it fairly adaptable or is this version specifically made for the intention of just the K-1?

I understand its not possible to close my account, but i keep getting notifications, I cannot figure out a way to unsubscribe properly. I manually clicked 'Unsubscribe' on over 20 threads this morning (which involves a page refresh after each one.. ZZz...I hope I dont have to do this for every thread I've typed in?!

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm saying its natural for a conversation to go off on tangents, happens all the time irl! All we need is for there to be a sober person in the room so that after the tangent is finished and the person says "Umm... what were we talking about?" we are able to get back to OP. But tangents can be useful and informative. Thankfully you can just scroll through the tangent till you see the thread get back onto a place that is of interest to you, I just don't see the big deal. The nature of the tangent does not make halfwits, people do. What they say, regardless if the info is on point with OP or on point with the tangent. What you're really trying to say is that tangents can cause arguments whereas I see dumb arguments a plenty (and been guilty of partaking in said dumb arguments) even when they are on point.

No thread should ever be closed, period. That tbh is just poor moderating and admin. Temporary closures are fine, so admin/mods can clean up and deal with naughty members, but they shouldn't be closed indef, ever.

Yeah, I just lose my User Modes and have to redo them all again , but looks like I will have to do that.

Yeah I was aware that you needed to check the right Electronic Level under the right shooting mode (LV vs OVF), I was still confused as it was not coming back (but was in LV). Steve's point made me think that it had been so long since I used the EL in the OVF that it was working and had replaced the EV scale, and he was right! I was expecting the EL to return to the actual frame overlay (the same way it does on the K-1!) but it doesn't, its down at the bottom with all the other info!

So admin, you can mark my 'Two Bugs' as being solved and not bugs at all :lol: :D (using the term bugs is such a great way to get the best help quickly I find :p)

Thanks nerds!

I've never understood the problem of threads being 'hijacked', personally I don't see the problem at all when a thread moves on a tangent. Just because the thread started out as A and then moved to B and C doesn't stop a single person from asking or making a point relevant back to point A again. I could understand more the issue of hijacking when we couldn't use quotes, but nowadays I just say let the thread flow wherever man. Otherwise tbh the thread can also be dull, I mean how many posts do you want to hear from people saying stuff like "OooH! Exciting, can't wait!" ZZz... so boring. Hijacking has shown to often make threads richer and more diverse and it's clearly not a problem for anyone to ignore the hijack and make a point pertaining to the original points rather than the tangent points.

Yer the best Peter! Thank you!

FWIW, I hardly ever use the dedicated ISO button, when I am in Av mode i activate the shutter dial to toggle out of Auto ISO, or use the Thumbdial to play with ISO (where I leave it at ISO mostly). So does the ISO button do that Auto ISO toggle in a lot of Auto ISO modes?

Aight... let's get straight to it;

Bug No.1;

KP & Electronic Level via OVF

So... bit weird but I toggled off the Electronic Level in my KP (clearer OVF etc), but now that I have went in the menu and turned it on... it's not showing :confused:

I am yet to do a system reset or firmware update (1.00), but... has this happened to anyone before? I can't seem to get it back at all.

PS: Live View Electronic Level is fine and toggles on and off, it's just the OVF one that has gone away and can't seem to return :lol: :D

Bug No. 2;

K-1 & Hyper P mode & ISO

So I've been playing with this mode recently due to my increase in messing around with birding/wildlife. It seems at default that ISO is set to Auto, however you can toggle out of being in Auto ISO if you have the K-1's thumb dial set to ISO and just manually change it. Sadly however, I cannot seem to toggle back into Auto ISO once I act upon that Thumb Dial, Green Button is not doing it. Maybe some of you readers out there are thinking that's fine, that's how it is, but perhaps you don't know but in Av Mode this is exactly what the Green Button can do (if you set it up correctly). The Av mode is really good on Pentax, you can choose to only control Aperture and let the K-1 adjust shutter and ISO automatically for you, or you can actually fix ISO as well and only have shutter speed change. However at the single press of the Green Button it toggles you back to Auto ISO if you by chance toggled out if it and fixed ISO. I really hoped Hyper P would do this also, but I think it doesn't? (I can't be sure because I am 2 beers and 1 whisky in to check properly in the settings...).

PS: I am also on a pretty early firmware version for the K-1.

My next step is to upgrade the firmware, but that would prolly wipe out my 5 User Modes so am hesitant to do that unless its the only fix...

TIA!

This is quite interesting however, it's made me think. Smartphones have no doubt caused a massive dent in the dslr market. How many of you have known of people who bought or received a dslr for xmas, only to realise its difficult and confusing af, use it a handful of times and give up and go back to their top tier flagship smartphone (that does it all for them), which they pay monthly for on a contract? I know at least 2-3 friends that fall into that category.

But we will always have a need and demand for proper photography. The Olympics and sporting events will not be covered by smartphones, ever. If someone is serious about their wedding and wants large prints, it's not ever happening from smartphones. Commercial photography, etc etc.

So then what? How do the dslr markets survive?

I think we're gonna see prices go up, across all brands, maybe it's even started with Pentax, they feel more expensive than they were in 2016. If you want professional photography... pay for it, pure and simple. Hobbyists and enthusiasts will suffer the most, they better have well paid jobs.

How else can it go? Are we seeing the death of affordable decent photography gear and ushering a new era of pricey stuff?

Thoughts?

Well, you can 'lose' in a variety of ways. I guess the first is that you choose a camera based on future support, and so when that camera brand and lenses you bought cease to put out anything new (and you want new stuff) it means selling what you have and making a loss.
Secondly if you bought their stuff, shot with it, decided it was bad and thus sell it, that also is a loss.
I do hear what yer saying tho, that the camera you bought still works and functions, but with photography I tend to feel its a 'long game' play and you want to choose semi wisely to not have to sell on gear if possible.

I don't think any do apertures, and focus shifting from apertures is a 'old lens' issue more than exists today in modern glass, is it not?

Yeah I honestly don't know how to go about cultivating a better atmosphere where we have a more chilled out atmosphere and less passive aggressiveness. I do find it interesting that my jovial jocking attitude seems to be better understood over there than here, I dunno... like people 'get me' more in that realm. Possibly because the rules are more relaxed, a swear word can fly etc. . Sometimes I wonder if anyone here really understands the Bruce/Eddy thing, it's not like I haven't been here for a few years now! :D

My friend who bought a Nikon D750 I think could calibrate his Sigma Zoom, maybe it was a Sigma hub thingy? Not sure, I think he did get adjustments done for his zoom at different FL tho.

There's the Dot method as well that I saw demonstrated with a Nikon I think and it had -20 to +20, and it made it bit more sense and I think Pentax could possibly benefit from a higher scale/smaller increments. My FA77 for example needs +8 when using the dot method, but that's a bit of a guess because I can't go pass +10 to find out the other side of the mark where the lens AF confirm drops out.
