Finally tha last in the gang arrived.

Black Asahi Pentax is my passion, and finally getting a hold of the black AP makes me smile. Just need to find the correct lens (which I think is going to be really hard...)

The first three Pentax SLR's came as standard in chrome, and optionally in black. The number of black bodies is estimated to be about 10% of the production run. AP: 19500, S: 4900, K: 21000.

There were even special black lenses to go along with the black bodies: For the AP: A black Takumar 58mm f2, and for the K: a black Auto-Takumar 55mm f1.8. From what I know, there wasn't a black lens released for the S, I would assume the option would be to use the black Takumar 58mm F2.

In the photo attached the lenses are:
Black AP: Takumar 58mm f2
Chrome AP: Takumar 55mm f2.2

Black S: Takumar 83mm f1.8
Chrome S: Takumar 100mm f3.5

Black K: Non-zebra all-black Auto-Takumar 55mm f1.8
Chrome K: Zebra Auto-Takumar 55mm f1.8

Which do you prefer? Chrome or black?

"Gold" Pentax H3

True...
I pointed out, via a message, for a post of an S with an Auto-Takumar 55mm f2. I said that the S was never sold with that lens, and that the lens wouldn't even work as intended. He basically told me to shut up.. But he did change the lens and placed a Takumar 35mm F4 on it instead. Which is much more correct.

It is even more funny, as the post expires, he increases the price of the object.

Anyway: This is his description on how this "gold" body came to happen:

"Every so often Asahi would come up with a marketing gimmick as did many other camera companies. Rolleiflex, Hasselblad, and Mamiya all made "Gold" plated cameras at one time or another.

While this example does show some tarnishing and pitting, I have no reason to believe it is not genuine, and that Asahi did in fact gold plate it. It would be too much work for it to be done aftermarket, especially on an H3 as opposed to an AP, S, K, or H2."

"Gold" Pentax H3

Hi

I came across a nice try to sell a "gold" body Pentax H3 for almost 600$. It looks like it is a black body that someone has taken the task of stripping off the black paint, to expose the brass. The same seller also have a Pentax S with a dent in the prism for over 2400$. Claiming that a mint body would sell for $2000 alone. Just to bad his copy isn't a mint body.

I have tried to communicate with the seller, but he became really ***&&&!!! not so happy. :)

Well well.
So anyone else seen a gold H3 before?

Photo from the eBay posting.

The Asahiflex flash has been on my wish list for a long time. I found one in Hungary, of all places, and it arrived today, and I woud say it looks really nice.

The mounting bracket is missing, does anyone have one and can share the measurements and some detailed images of it please? maybe I can find it or have one made.

Is it possible to source the bulbes for these somewhere?

Thanks.

Finally.

I managed to find a nice copy of the Asahi Auto-Takumar 85mm f1.9, in it case and with the original hood, at not to bad a price.

Mounting it on a Asahi Pentax SV makes me feel like a Beatles member :)

This week I recived a lens from a fellow member here on pf.

It is the only wide angle lens available to the m37 mount back in the days, the Fujitar 35mm f2.5.

These were made by Fujita Kogaku Kikai and you can find them branded Tower as well as Fujitar. Possibly the first retrofocus lens in the world. It is found in various mounts like m37, m42, m39 Exacta. The lens will have engraving on the rear stating which mount it is for. Mine says it is for Asahiflex IIA IIB.

23030 is the product number for this camera. The known serial number range for the H1a is 711163-721162 and 1500001 - 1541576 Yours seems to be a late version.

There was even a Asahi Penta sold recently. it was a Asahi S with the Asahi Penta top. Never seen one before, nor have I ever seen it discussed. I've heard of the Asahi Penta K. You can tell by the speed dial.

Photos from eBay.

Last night, this interesting user manual landed in my mail box.

It was issues by Sears, Roebuck and Co together with the Tower 23. Which is a rebranded Asahiflex IA, or version 1 or 2 of Asahiflex IIB. The camera shown in the illustration is a Asahiflex IIB version 1, i.e. from November 1954 to 1956. From an old Sears add, this camera retailed for $77.50.

The Tower 23 had the slowest standard lens, 50mm f3.5 If you wanted the faster lens, you would buy the Tower 24, that came with 58mm f2.4.

From an article in Popular Photography, March 1955, under the What’s New column, a camera called just Tower is mentioned. I have never seen an Asahiflex just branded Tower. Guess this is a pre-sale add.

Hi,

base plates comes up every now and then on eBay. There might be an issues with some of these, since I have been told that the factory actually shipped them with a battery installed. These tend to leak over time.

Dear forum.

I want to "bounce" this thread up a bit. This time with a challenge: Spring is around the corner in my parts of the world, if it would just stop snowing... The challenge is: Take your Asahiflex out of storage, arm it with a roll of film, shoot and share the results here on PF.

Cheers.

There are mulitple threads discussing the K1000 and where it is made. It is sometimes really hard to tell if it is made in Japan or Hong Kong as well. There are a list of traits to look for. Good luck!

Asahiflex Original Kit - Keep Together or Split Up?

That is a really nice kit, I sure want parts of it into my collection for sure. You can PM me of course.

You can always sell it via pentaxforums, you will reach a knowledgeable customer base, and you don't have to shell out to ebay for their fee and you can choose shipping methods etc. Price is hard, to figure out the right level, check out sold-prices and not the ebay dream-prices.
