Shutter Count Maximum

I believe, that most cameras had the same one problem, which causes their end:

After some time, there is a better one.

And after some more time, there is a much more better one.

That the natural end of most cameras I think. So I have stopped thinking about shutter count and enjoy taking pictures. :)

Thanks for your hint to copy thepictures to a second, empty SD Card and reduce time for preview. I've tried now with version2.0.3, but it's tricky:
  1. Turn off camera, insert second card

  2. Turn on camera, copy the picture you want to send out to the empty card

  3. Turn off camera, remove main card. Don't try with main card in camera, image sync will freeze.

  4. Turn on camera, turn on Wifi

  5. Select the right Wifi onyour Smartphone

  6. Use image sync to transfer

  7. Turn off camera.

  8. Send out your picture with a messenger

  9. Insert main card again to camera, remove second card. Don't try with second card in camera ! The camera will use it for saving your pictures from now on and tomorrow you won't have an empty card any more.

  10. Don't forget your second card in the restaurant.

Yes, that works, but it's not reallythe way I wanted to handle my camera for long time.

On the other hand, is it that big dealfor image sync, first to ask for one folder of the main card and thenstart preview with this folder only ?

Or, as an other proposal, touse the copy function in the camera, making it possible, to copy notonly to the other SD card, but to 'copy to WiFi' also ?

For a long time I've wished, that I cansend out my pictures during a journey. Send out that picture I took one hour ago with 300mm from a rare bird for example. Send out as every smartphonecan send out it's pictures.

And I can imaging, that there are many other users with thesame wish. So please, make it easy to use to transfer a picture to a smartphone..

I have checked the time for preview from K1 to iPhone SE within a distance of 20 cm. I have used an SD card with only one folder containing 500 pictures.

The preview for these pictures needs about two and a half minute (2:39).

Assume you have started your holiday with an emtpy SD card. Now you have been on holiday for a week, and you've made about 2000 pictures. This means, you have to wait about 10 minutes before you can download the one picture with the children and the icecream you've just made and send it to grandma. :(

Works fine with nearly empty SD cards and iOS. :)

Same old problem with cards containing several hundreds of pictures, no return from loading the preview. Now way for selecting as special folder of SD card and go ahead. :( Hopefully next version.

I have tried this App for the first time with an iPhone SE. I wanted to transfer one single picture to my phone and send it out by social media.

The connection with camera wifi was ok, the app detected the camera without any problems. But when I used the function "Cam Images" for transfer, the app started at once to make a preview of the whole SD card ! Hundreds of pictures on a big SD card ! No return within a resonable time !

Is there any possibility to select one folder before starting the preview ? Or to type in just the number of the picture I want to get ? How can I avoid the preview of the whole SD card ?

Very interesting. I did the same test "before and after" the Pixel Mapping with K1 mark 1, V1.5. But I got rid of the problem. I used 30s and ISO100 for my comparision with lens cap on in a dark room.

Did you try "Pixel Mapping" in settings, menu 4 of your camera ? I got some trouble with "hot pixel", but I could solve the problem with this function.

Years ago a Transcend card died. Two or three Sandisk cards weren't sufficient heat sealed, so the case opened. I could repair them with a drop of glue.

That's my experience also. My Pentax batteries (1860mAh) have more capacity than other batteries that I bought with a printed value of 2800mAh.

But the ratio of price per capacity normally is better from other vendors, even if you keep in mind, that they over-promise their capacity. So, it's a difficult decision, what to buy.

It's a nice blue picture you haveshown. I like this blue and yellow.

In my opinion it's absolut normal to find some little grain in blue color at 100% zoom. Even at 100 ISO and with wide aperture also. Especially when the blue is dark, going to black. I guess, you find the grain in the edges of your picture. Blue tends to be grainy.

There's a simple solution for your problem: Enjoy your picture, don't look for this kind of grain. :)

K-3 Battery discussion Generic/Original

Several weeks ago I've checked my batteries with K3 and the internal flash on full power.

Every 20s I took a picture until the camera turned off. Focus, flashpower, time and aperture were set to manual, no livewiew.

Result:
* With the three batteries of Pentax (1860 mAh) I got the most shots. The number of shots were similar, even though using time was very different.
* With the two batteries of DSTE (2800mAh) I got less shots, even though they are only one year in use and should have more capacity.
* With the three VHBW batteries (1300mAh) I got fewest shots, but they are much older than the DSTE.

shutter vibration and shake reduction

I did some testing with K3 + 300mm last year and it has the most blur at about 1/100s.
For shorter times the blur was less, until at about 1/320s the ISO blur rises.
I noticed, when laying the camera on a solid desk, there is less motion blur. When puting some weak thing between the camera and the desk, the blur rises.
When mounting on a tripod, there is less blur when fixing at the camera compared to fixing at the lens.

Interval with 2sec delay?

Since K5 I wished, that the internal intervalometer isn't a drive mode, but a separate screen. So that I can combine it with other drives modes, in particular with 2 sec mirror lock, when the camera is on a tripod, taking pictures with a long focal length when the sun goes down. Some day I bought an external one and everything was fine. Only one more part to carry and one part more, which can run out of batterie.

But until now I didn't understand, why the internal intervalometer must be a drive mode. All other drive modes can be combined, if I use an external one. Why shouldn't it work with an internal ? Only a few byte of firmware I think.

Turn AE-L button on and off, tips and tricks

I found a trick to turn on and off the AE-L button:

Turn OFF AE-L button:

1. Turn on camera
2. press AE-L button several times just to check function. You'll see a star in the display.
3. press Live view
4. press ok in Live View. You'll enter zoom.
5. press Live view (without pressing ok before !). You'll leave Live view
6. press AE-L. It's truned OFF, you cannot toggle.

Turn ON AE-L button again:

7. press Live view
8. press ok in Live View. You'll enter zoom.
9. press ok once again. You'll leave zoom but stay in Live view.
10. press Live view. You'll leave Live view
11. press AE-L. It's truned ON again.

May be it's not a trick, but a bug only ? :(

K-3 Problem with Star Trails, Interval Mode & MUP

Yes, normally it's right, liveview needs a lot of power. But in this case, liveview is only active within the first seconds until you start taking pictures, and afterwards, when you have finished taking pictures. So, no problem.

K-3 Problem with Star Trails, Interval Mode & MUP

Hello Chris,

when I take pictures of stars I set my camera into "continuous Shooting (H)" mode. Then I select "M" and set the time, for example 30s, and the aperture. Afterwards I connect a programmable intervalometer and select on this device the total time of the series, for examples 20 minutes. Then I switch the camera to Live View, the mirror goes up, and I start the external intervalometer. After 30s the time for the first picture is over and the second pictures starts immediately (without flipping the mirror) because of the continuous shooting mode. The camera will do this for 20 minutes until the time of the external intervalometer is over.

If you haven't got an intervalometer at this time, you can try to press the shutter release button for 20 minutes by your finger without any movements. NO, that's a joke. But you can try to keep it pressed with a adhesive tape around your camera. OK, the first picture you cannot use, because the camera will move while warping the tape around. But all the others pictures will be fine.

Good luck and no clouds, Siegbert

How to Upload from K-3 to Phone Without a Computer?

One posibility to select the pictures transfered is to use two SD-cards. One (fast) card in slot 1 and the eye-fi card in slot 2.

Normally you save the pictures in slot 1. When to want to transfer one picture to your smartphone, you copy this picture from slot 1 to slot 2. There are a lot of functions within the K3 to do this easyly. With these functions you also reduce the resolution or crop it when coping.

K-3 II Super Resolution Example

Hi Adam,

can you give me some details to the "super resolution". Does it use the mechanical shutter or the electronic shutter ?

So, if you take a picture with super resolution do you hear the shutter four times, like you can hear it three times when using HDR ?
Or is it an electronic shutter like a movie, so you hear it only once ?

Just A Quick Question About K-3 Manual Mode

I have checked my K-3 in TAv-Mode. After pressing "AE-L" I can change the speed while the camera chooses the ISO accordingly (not the aperture). And I can also change the aperture while the camera chooses the ISO (not the speed). In my opinion that's what you want.

At the beginning you mentioned, that your are using firmware 1.0. I'm using firmware 1.11. May be, that's the problem, but also may be, I had changed some setting month ago and I don't remember.

I would like to store the settings of a picture to a user mode.

That means, when I'm in display mode, it should be possible to store the settings of the selected picure to one of the three user modes. Afterwards I can use this user mode and this settings for another picture.

Jumping shutter speed in exposure mode P ?
Posted By siegbert

Hello Steve,

thanks for checking the problem. In my opinion it's a bug to get an underexposed picture in P mode as long as there is enough light and the EV compensation is set to zero. According to the manual, in P mode I choose the aperture or the time and the camera will set the other value right according to the light. So it should not happen to get an underexposed picture.

I liked the P mode with K5, but now I think I will rather use Av or Tv mode and switch these modes if needed.

Thanks to all of you for your help.

Siegbert

Jumping shutter speed in exposure mode P ?

Hello Parallax,

thanks for your reply. Yes, the camera pointed to the same scene. I have checked the scene with both, the K5 and K3. The K5 behaves as I would have expected, while the K3 jumps with the exposure time every time I try.

It's easy to check: Set the K3 to "Av Hyper", take a picture and turn the front dial while the picture is shown. Then I can see, that the time has jumped.

Jumping shutter speed in exposure mode P ?

Hello Crooski,

thanks for your reply. I know this side of the manual and I have used this function a long time with the K5. And I like it.

But normally when your are in "Av Hyper" and turn the front dial, the camera switches to "Tv Hyper" and changes the current shutter speed only by one step. It never jumps from 1/30s to 1/250s.

And normally you can only select a speed for which exist a proper aperture. But when turning the front dial while the instand picture is shown, the select shutter speed jumps from F3.5, 1/30s to 1/250s and no proper aperture was available. So the next picture was much too dark, while the picture before was correct. According to the manual, this should not happen.

Can you check if your K3 behaves the same way ?

Thanks, Siegbert
