"3 way" binocular and monocular projects

Well, the designs make perfect sense for the uses they're showing.
Watching sport or opera or casual use doesn't really require lugging 1.5kg of high grade binoculars or a spotting scope. Plus you would get looked at askance at the opera whilst setting up your 20x70s on a tripod. Also, they acknowledge the fact that most people just shoot with smart phones and the monocualar with the smart phone adaptor would have "general appeal", IMHO.

Looks like Pentax are developing a couple of unique optical products. There's more to them both than initially meets the eye. You need to watch the videos... wait for it wait for it...

Sensor Cleaning Advise K1MII

Another vote for the O-ICKI.
My K10d was practically unusable after getting pollen sucked inside it using a non weather sealed zoom lens. Rocket blower was useless. Was up in the hills around Tokyo for a holiday... Pollen everywhere from the trees like an orange cloud. O-ICKI fixed it and I think that after you use it a couple of times, you almost never get dust on the sensor again. Seems to decrease the stickiness of the sensor somehow.

Keep still and stay in the same spot. Eventually, birds will get used to you being there. You will get nicer shots when the birds are closer, regardless of the lens. Check out the patience required in this 'making of' article. Now admittedly, he has a long lens, but it's the sitting around waiting to the point that the bird ignored him that was key. Camera Utility 5.8.3

One little trick to avoid this in future is to start with a opening .PEF file in the windows explorer. BUT:
sometimes windows doesn't seem to know to open PEFs with Pentax DCU.

To fix this:
Right click on a PEF file and with the drop down menu select "Open with..."
You will see "Digital Camera Utility 5" BUT scroll past to "choose another app". A little window appears. Select "Digital Camera Utility 5" AND tick the always open with box.

From now on, you just need to double click a PEF file to open DCU.

There is a setting in DCU that needs to change also, otherwise you just see the one photo you clicked on and not every other photo in the folder.
Open Tools menu, then Options, then File Management:
There is a option "How to specify the edit candidate images" change this to "All image files in the specified image list"

And you're sorted.

Depending upon your phone, if it has a micro SD slot and that slot is not in use (ie you're not using it for additional storage on your phone);
Then you could use a micro sd card with the SD sized adapter (usually included) inside your camera. After shooting, just plug the card directly into your phone and enjoy the fastest possible transfer speed.

Need Some Help: looking for a small "pin wrench"

Looks to me you could turn that using a set of adjustable metal dividers.
ie something that looks like a compass like you draw circles with but with metal points on both sides instead of pencil lead.
You could buy a cheap pair and file the pointed ends to shape.

Replace K-5 flash release button

Looks like you are missing two parts - the button and a little rubber boot/ cone that fits behind the button.

This is the button:
Pentax 77240-Q5 Flash Button Pop Up K-5 | K-7 | USCamera Pentax PartsUSCamera

This is the boot:
Pentax 76830-A0378 Button Rubber | USCamera Digital Camera PartsUSCamera

The boot goes in first (obviously) the wide side of the cone faces the camera, the narrow end faces outwards. Then push the button in and it *should* stay there.

If you have good eyesight and the DIY knack, US Camera will probably have the parts you need for your K7, and will help if you send them a message. Will likely only be a few measly dollars too. I think this might be the part? Pentax 77760-A0281 Connector Cover | K-3 | K-5 | K-7 | USCamera PartsUSCamera

Travel choice: k3 or k1?

When traveling I would not want to openly carry anything that yells: 'mug me I'm a rich tourist'. If you're walking around with kit that is worth the annual income of the people around you, you don't want to be too conspicuous about it.
BTW, the times I've traveled, I regret bringing my flash. Never used it. It also makes your camera look twice as large, so that's a no-no. Same with the 10-20. That's a big lump of glass and draws attention.

If you don't mind me being "arbitrary and capricious", I'd say you're crazy to want/need f/2.8 in a wide angle. f/4 should be enough for anyone for many reasons - ie: easy to hand hold wide angles, bokeh's not going to happen anyway...

Just get the 15 limited.
Yes, it's probably about $400 second hand and therefore double your budget, but just wait enough time until you have saved up for it.

Hi Les
"My Like Icon is gone missing from my posts"
Do you mean the like icon is missing only from your OWN posts, but it's visible on everyone else's?
Because if that is what you mean, that's how the page is meant to show - so you can't up-vote your own posts... ;-)
Cal
