lens hood part

Greetings,
I have a lens hood for a 14mm pentax lens...there is a small piece of plastic that can be removed from the hood...I've never been certain what the purpose is...at any rate, after taking some photos the other day I noticed the piece was missing. so, 2 things, 1, I assume I can just place some black tape over the opening and be ok, and 2, if the part is essential does anyone have any idea what is it called and how I can get one without having to buy the whole hood.
thanks
tom

K3/14mm lens malfunction

Greetings,
Would like some advice on a problem that cropped up for me yesterday while shooting a real-estate job. have a K-3 and was using a pentax 14mm SMC DA 2.8. Started having problems with the lens auto-focusing.

Motor starts to sound like it is focusing but then it just keeps whirring and may or not actually focus, but generally even if it does focus the shutter will not release. Pretty sure it is the lens issue as I switched out to a 50 mm and had no problems.

any suggestions as to possible solution or who to send to? I have had the lens for several years so I don't think warranty is still in place. I am near KEH and have heard that they have good repair dept.

Thanks in advance. BTW battery is fully charged right now, and was at the gig...so I don't think it is a battery problem.

thank you both for the kind words...he was a very pleasant fellow and yes, he played, as I like to say. 'his ass off'..still perfect intonation and rhythm. the session was actually him and an 85 year old sax player accompanied by two much younger guys on piano and bass.

weather seal on program selection dial??

Greetings,
I have a pentax K3 and as a result of a collision with an open drawer, the cover on the dial (top left) that selects the program was knocked loose. it is very thin metal part that does not appear to have any indication of glue or other substance as the source for it's stability. I have tried just pushing it back down but it doesn't stay. I have two questions 1: is it a part of the camera that would have been weather sealed? It doesn't look it would be...when I lift if off of the camera the button with spring are exposed and will, of course, fall out, but the inside of the dial looks to be a solid part of the molded camera body. 2: is there some sort of glue that I could get that would work to put it back in place without causing damage to the camera?
thanks
tom

ok. so I looked a little closer and there is a very thin layer of some sort of adhesive on the inside. However it isn't continuous so I don't think it
is intended to function as a seal..any recommendations for the type of adhesive to use would be welcomed.

flash for k3

so, after looking around I settled on the yungnuo IV and while I have used it only a little since purchase I am very pleased so far. I am wondering if anyone has experience with using lithium batteries (which I prefer) in yungnuo. I have read that yungnuo discourages the use of li-ion (which I assume to be the same as energizer lithium batteries) but in the instruction book there is no mention of it. I know when I was shooting with a k5 lithium batteries seemed to last a lot longer than alkaline models.

thanks for assistance.

I am wanting to get a flash for my K3..not having $3-400 to spend, am looking at the yungnuo 560 III or the one of the Godox models...would be on-camera usage primarily at this point...in older posts I read that the yungnuo may not fit the k3 hotshoe very well...does any one have experience or advice...would like to keep costs, new or used, below $150.00
thanks
