Teleconverter on a 500mm mirror lens

I have to vote for cropping. Unless you have an unusually sharp mirror lens that produces sharp images when viewed at 100% pixel peeping then putting a TC on top will be useless.

K-mount mirrorless still in the works.

A SDM only mount would make perfect sense. Then add the optional adapter for Kaf lenses with a screw drive and motor. Presto! Thin camera, small wide angle lenses, and Kaf lenses work.

I'm trying to hold off buying a Fuji X100 in hopes this materializes.

When I had my K200D and the same lens you have I found it never exposed properly in AV mode. I had to put the camera in manual mode and push the green button to meter the exposure automatically. That worked fine.

Would I be able to get this shot with a 15mm or 21mm?

This photo appears to have used a longer focal lenght in the 30mm range.

15mm (and wide angles in general) are undesirable for portraits because they distort face proportions... in particular making noses and ears stick out.

15mm is a horrible portrait focal length

Ilford Delta 3200 - shoot at 800-1600, develop at 1600?

This film is good to be used from ISO400 to 6400. You can get the info sheet from Ilford's website. HOWEVER the sensitivity you choose affects development time. So pick one sensitivity for the whole roll and then make sure you tell the person doing the development what you used.

I wonder if that's the case why those lenses aren't advertised in catalogues and Pentax's website

NO! It's still a 300mm lens! It'll behave exactly like any other 300mm lens on the K20D.

I wouldn't go with anything too fancy. Just a plain portrait with the courthouse blurred in the background yet still recognizable. Make the subject stand from the background, in this case, have your friend 1 or 2 stops more illuminated using flash and a diffuser so he stands out.

A guess why DA*'s have various issues, Nikon's possible reason.

This theory makes no sense IMHO.

If the seals make the lens havier to turn, put a bigger motor in!

So it may be an incorrect motor choice but not inherent to weatherproofed lenses.

Camera FPS. Is it software limited or hardware limited?

Both

From one side the shutter and mirror assemblies take a certain time to work. Faster ones can be built but will cost more.

On the software side you need powerful processors to turn 14 MP worth of data into JPEG files. Just take note of how long lightroom takes to do a full size raw conversion and realize the camera does that each time you click. And if RAW lots of RAM are needed to store the data it is written to the SD card.

Why does Pentax consistently UNDER-EXPOSE and usually under-saturate images?

I have a K20D and found the metering will expose for whatever the brightest source of light is. So as long as I identify it beforehand and lock exposure elsewhere, or use spot exposure in a selected place, problem solved!

I find this to be helpful when shooting RAW though - it means your highlights will be ok and you can boost the shadows later in post and get a great photo. In JPEG it is indeed a hindrance.

Saturation you can easily boost in the custom image menu assuming you shoot jpeg.

31mm and 77mm Limited?

Every once in a while surfaces a rumour that they'll be discontinued. While I never believed such nonsense all I can say is if you really want them, get them. If they ever go out of production I wager used ones will sell for more than new ones cost now. I certainly won't be putting mine on the market.

"wide angle" is really a non issue with flashes as you can bounce it off a card or a wall and get the widest angle possible

How much to ask for licensing a photo

IMHO some insane prices were suggested for merely hanging a picture on a wall. Exclusive rights, of course, are another matter and would warrant a higher cost.

What is particular to this situation is that the customer is the owner of the premises. So if your price is too high they may simply ask a photographer to remake that picture, perhaps in better lighting conditions, for less.

In all likelihood the university already has a staff photographer, or one the hire frequently, that would do it for a small amount. Say they have a pro already shooting a random event, they ask him to take these particular shot and deliver a print they can hang in their wall. How much would the pro charge in that situation?

I think SpecialK suggested a fair price considering the amount of work on your part. Does anyone really think the picture is worth more than the camera and lens that took it? Sure some pictures might be, but I doubt one of a static object available any time for shooting again is the case.

Any news on Built-in GPS on any of Pentax's Cameras

gps is a battery hog

just notice how fast the phone's battery goes when you turn gps on

I'd rather not have anything in my camera that makes me recharge its battery every week instead of every three months

I already have a gps-enabled phone (that I recharge every three days) for tracking (though it can only track for two hours and then the battery is no more), and a specialized gps logger can be had off ebay for $40

or I can spend ten minutes geotagging photos by hand which is less time than I take to download the track off my phone and convert, sync and process the file

so I think this is just another example of the kitchen sink syndrome, same as wifi

would I purchase a gps-equipped camera? of course, as long as it's the best camera I can buy for that money and the gps can be switched off if I want

would I spend an extra penny to purchase a gps-equipped camera? definitely not

IMHO.

Also each new body sold means one more person potentially buying used lenses. Of course prices go up.
