Pentax 6x7 lenses on 645Z?

You should definitely get the Pentax 67 to 645 adapter. You can use 67 lenses in automatic exposure mode (Aperture preferred) on 645 bodies. I use my 75 mm f/2.8 AL and my M*300 mm f/4 ED this way with good success (the 300 is a massive and heavy lens but has a tripod shoe). I amassed ten 67 lenses over the years (45, 55, 75, 90, 100 macro, 105, 165, 200, M* 300 and 55-100 zoom, all late models 67) but have only tried these two on my 645Z yet ... :(

Concerning the performance of the 645 FA 150-300 mm f/5.6 zoom at 200 mm, I have this picture of fall leaves on hand. It was taken handheld @ 1/125 and f/11. Better than a prime : probably not but quite satisfying by any standard. This is a long and front-heavy lens, more unwieldy to use than the FA 200 mm f/4.

Winter blues begin to set in when February lingers. So here's a colorful picture of fall leaves to cheer you up ! Taken at a focal length of 200 mm with the 645 FA 150-300 mm zoom lens on a 645Z, handheld.

The P645 200s: thoughts and experiences?

Remember that people base their opinion of a lens on the particular individual model they are using. Statistically, a "one lens sample" doesn't mean much. Personally I had an A-200 mm f/4 that performed dismally, so much so that I decided to look for an FA version. The autofocus 200 mm f/4 I purchased was a total wonder compared to the older manual-focus version but again, just a "one lens sample", so I may have fallen on an extraordinary sample. The above picture was taken with this FA 200 mm f/4, tripod-mounted and using f/11.

Best regards
Richard

The A 200 mm f/4 is the only 645 Pentax lens that ever disappointed me (no sharpness and poor contrast). I bought an FA 200 and, for landscapes, now I hit the jackpot, it's a brilliant optic.

The 645Z uses "Multi-segment metering", meaning that it analyses various parts of the image and chooses the best compromise for exposure. I later played with contrast, turning the sky very dark and letting the highlights fall where they may. Fortunately this lens provides plenty of contrast, hence the final result.

645D still good for landscapes in 2020?

Whatever you buy, a 645D or a 645Z, these cameras are wonderful landscape instruments. Here are a few examples to encourage you acquiring one of those. BTW, I always use ISO 100 and shoot @ f/11, I use a tripod whenever I'm able to.

I dreamed of acquiring a 645D for a long time but when I learned the shutter was given for only 50 000 actuations, buying a used model became a no-no for me as you rarely get the actual shutter count on used cameras. Instead I found a "demo" 645Z (with only 136 certified shutter actuations) for a very good price in Ontario. The Z shutter is much improved and should last for 100 000 clicks. The 645Z is like a giant K3 with pretty much all the same controls and adjustments and a larger and more impressive CMOS sensor.

The backyard view from my house by minus 25 degrees C in winter. Taken handheld with the much maligned 645 A 45 mm f/2.8 moderate wide-angle and transformed into a high-contrast black and white version. I guess I was lucky but this lens is very sharp as are all my other 645 Pentax lenses.

July 2018 ... The North Rim is accessible from Utah (Kanab via Zion Nat'l Park) or it's a 200 plus miles trip in Arizona from the South Rim via the Vermillion Cliffs area.

Just North of San Simeon, on the Pacific Coast Highway, I noticed this beautiful ocean view. DFA 28-105 mm, upper image @ 105 mm, lower image @ 28 mm. Pictures cropped to a panoramic format to remove unwanted gray skies.
I could hear seals "barking" but I couldn't see any of them on the beach ...

The FA 80-160 mm f/4.5 performs admirably, according to my experience. It is a "front-heavy" lens and needs to be handled with great care, preferably tripod-mounted. I always use f/11 BTW. The upper picture was taken @ 108 mm and the lower one @ 143 mm FL.

At the end of the day, I was blessed with this tremendously colorful sunset in the Mojave Desert. I think it is the dust that creates those colors in desert environments.

Last summer I noticed those hardy plants growing near my campsite in Joshua Tree Nat'l Park. Temperatures hover around 110 degrees F for 3 months during the summer. Taken at a focal length of 40 mm. Notice the extreme sharpness of this lens once again.

Second take of this winter scene. This time I tried to open up the shadows so the image doesn't appear so dark. This one was shot @ f/16 and the out-of-focus foreground was removed to create a panoramic format.

You're a rich guy ! Three pairs of sunglasses, really ... lol! Seriously, the light intensity was very high as well as the reflectance of the scene so this creates this nasty contrasty effect.

We are so spoiled, using zoom lenses, that being stuck with a single focal length like 75 mm seems awkward and "peculiar", kind of limiting and forcing you to work a little more to get interesting pictures. I find the 75 mm particularly annoying sometimes because of its lack of depth-of-field but I'm working on it ... lol!

75 X 0,8 = 60 mm equivalent on the 645Z. BTW I also have an A 55 mm f/2.8 that approximates a 45 mm in FF and provides more depth-of-field, making it easier to use in landscapes.

The glittering texture on the snow drew my attention for this winter picture. I was using my newly-acquired 645 A-series 75 mm f/2.8 lens @ f/11. I appreciate it more and more as I'm getting used to its peculiar FOV.

Reflections on water and ice create this lovely scene. Picture cropped to a panoramic format to suit the lay of the land and because the A 75 mm suffers from a lack of depth-of-field in the foreground.

Building sites and heavy machinery provide tremendous photo opportunities. I worked as an Engineer for 35 years and I know what a diversity of pictures one can take there. Nice light too !
