If you don't have dedicated tools , Home made or purchased , I would suggest don't attempt it.

Not difficult, but one wrong turn can cause heartache. I only started Fiddling with Cameras fairly recently , but I had little money invested and no emotional attachment to them. So, If I messed up, No worries.

Send it out to Eric and be sure of success.

Just a little Judas Window update, I now see the Window in the Viewfinder. The "Chimney" on the front the Prism, was in fact bent in to far.Once coaxed out to a more or less Vertical position , the light shone through.

Update for Info. Located a Service Manual in Canada, so hoping when it arrives it will help a bit. The Judas Window is just plain irritating by it's absence of display.

Put aside for a while.

"I'm going back several decades when I was still living in England. Honeywell did have a presence in England and various electrical goods were sold under the Honeywell name. From memory the Pentax was sold under the H1, H2, and H3 brands. I may be wrong but I don't think so".

Thanks for the Reply, I was born there, close to Seventy years ago and have no recollection of seeing "Honeywell" on a Pentax. They were all Asahi. Actually when I see "Honeywell" labeled stuff, all I see is a Thermostat !!

I started buying Pentax around 1965/66.

"Don't forget that other companies wanted credit for selling Pentax. A long time ago, in England, the cameras were sold as Honeywell Pentax. Maybe others tried to cash in on the Pentax success."

When exactly did "Honeywell"---The USA Importer/ Distributor, sell their branded Pentax in the United Kingdom ?.

Thanks for chipping in Ray-uk. It looks like someone has previously "touched" the two small slotted screws above the Red sealed lower screws.

I wish I knew what the correct amount is, to screw the slotted screws in. Before I removed them to access the prism, measured them with a vernier and returned them the same.

Found another reference to "JW" on a Pentax UK site.

Scroll down to the MX ( MX below LX ) , there's a comment.

Back Home, cleaned, checked everything is in line, can even see the reflection of the aperature on the lens by jiggling the angle, against a light source.
Externally I mean. Through the Viewfinder I still see no F number.

Guess I can live without it, or peep over the Prism to have a quick look !!.

Thanks for the info. though.
Cheers

Thank you, this answers another question I asked myself upon seeing the "little Mirror", behind the little Window . "Only a reflection" hadn't occurred to me.:)

Ok, I give up Nesster, a "Suicide window" ? Are you saying don't be tempted to fix it ?. Eric is a Talent and a great Guy though.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, the dual Needles are on the right, but the aperature viewfinder display is supposedly at the top, center (12 O'clock high).

Need a little help from Pentax KX users and fellow "Fiddlers".

Recently picked up a KX at a silly low price, and apart from some Top cover "nasties" (no dents though) , in pretty good shape.

Mirror Foam needs replacing as does the Foam inside the top cover(pad over circuit board).

Meter Works and seems accurate. Finally to my Question.

Where is the Viewfinder aperature display ?, I don't see it. I know where it is supposed to be.

What mechanism is present, that allows the aperature to display in the Viewfinder? .

Finally, does the Viewfinder "Light up" and display the F4 etc, with an LED ?

Can't find a Service Manual anywhere and NO , apart the K mount lens, it's not , in my humble opinion, anything like a K1000(on the inside)

Some input would truly be appreciated. Thanks all

Thank you. Reason I asked is that I used them about a month ago. They had the parts I needed, very helpful, and everything turned out well.

My latest project concerns an SLR, that someone in the past had epoxied a few delicate parts together. This necessitated literally destroying a couple of components to allow me to disassemble .

The attempts to contact and get a response from US Camera have failed. E- mail, Phone , Negative.

Thought they might have "gone under", but the Web site does not give that impression.

Ditto on the Sun exposure, especially in AZ. I routinely evacuate the Garage at the start of the "warm season" here of Adhesives, Tape, and anything else that may be affected by excessive heat .

Just the thought of leaving a Lens in the Sun makes me shudder. I've read some folks wrap the lens body in Aluminum to keep the body cool , or leave the Lens on a ledge on a Window Frame also.

24 and 48 hours side by side. I imagine a stronger Color cast might take a little longer ?.

Thanks Fred, I do have that Manual. Maybe I'm a little more Dumb than usual, as it seems to highlight assembly and seems to skip over what I consider relevant. I'm checking the "special Tools" to see if it somehow is removable by using one of those mentioned.

JANSJÖ LED work lamp - black - IKEA

$9.99

---------- Post added 03-26-15 at 11:20 PM ----------

Don't know how much UV it pumps out. I went to look for one, as this seems to be known to do the job.

A single LED. A/C adapter says output is 4 Volt.

I placed the Lens (wide open) and directed the light into the rear lens element. Lens sat on a Mirror to reflect light back through.

Take the Lens away and it looks just like any low powered reading light.

I've read some people have used Aluminum Foil if no Mirror is available. Initially I did that for 5 or so Minutes, but wasn't impressed with the reflectivity, so out came the Mirror.
Adjusted the light way down toward the lens, it's also the perfect size, and left it about 1/8" inch above the Glass for 24hours. It was clear then. The other 24 hours was just "to see".
Stays cool, no heating of Lens Glass or Body.

I would feel uncomfortable leaving most things out in the Arizona Sun, so a Lamp was my only way to go.

After reading of experiences of people who have had success removing the Yellowish Colour cast from various vintage lenses , decided to give it a go.

Apart from Light show, which looks , I think, pretty neat, the Lamp truly does appear to work as reported.

I initially checked it at 24 Hours and then gave it another 24hours. Sure 24 was enough, as I couldn't see any further improvement.

Have been staring at the Part --see photo-- trying to figure out, how to remove it, and also if is even movable from above !.
Just need the top area, that the wind on lever notches into.

Appears to have screws , but if in fact they are screws, they're fastened from underneath ?

Really would like to hear from someone who might know. Thank you all.
