New K-series DSLR under development to be exhibited

Has anything new about the camera been leaked or announced? I don't want to read every post, but I keep coming back hoping something else came out. Can we have two threads, one for actual information and one for everyone's debates and discussion around it? That would make things a lot easier for people like me who just want the facts.

You are still looking at the image that is misleading, because of the perspective. It is an optical illusion, but all you are seeing is the horizontal surface inside the curve. This image is more clear:

Not sure how you disagree with it right here in the picture. See the curved lip? The notch you are seeing is just the inside surface of the lip. It can't possibly curve out like this AND notch inward. Pretty hard evidence if you ask me. I mean seriously, where did all these blind photographers come from? :D

Many people have looked at the images and fallen for the optical illusion, but there is no notch at the bottom right of the screen. Look at the other angles, specifically the photos from above, to see the truth. It is merely the bezel curving up, just like it does on the top corner, but you can't see the inside of the curve on the top because of the angle.

About to pull the trigger on Sigma 17-50, but found much cheaper OS version...

No, they are both 17-50. I will post the links:

amazon.com : Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 Ex Dc Hsm Lens for Pentax DSLR Camera : Camera Lenses : Camera & Photo?tag=pentaxforums-20&

https://www.amazon.com/Sigma-17-50mm-Aperture-Standard-Digital/dp/B003A6NTIG...DT9KB968RAEJKY

The second one is an older model, and has a link to a newer model which is the other one without "OS" in the name.

So according to my research, they used to make the lens for pentax with stabilization still built in, which is redundant. These lenses are $30 cheaper on amazon, but is there a down side that I am not seeing? Maybe a little extra weight?

Another thing you might try is making a shallower depth of field to isolate the tower from the noisy background. The buildings behind it are distracting and it would be nice to blur them out a little bit.

B&H discounts... how long will they last?

Is that guaranteed to expire? Or is it the kind of thing that is set to expire relatively soon all the time but keeps getting extended at the last minute? I have seen manufacturers do that to create a false sense of urgency to get more sales, so that is why I ask. Thank you.

I like the original better than the crop or the higher contrast one. The original is nice the way it is and looks very natural, instead of over processed. The original framing is great, too. The river becomes the subject and it is very beautifully shot. The crop version makes it evenly divided between mountains and river so I can't tell what the actual subject is.

Great job, though.

That's a nice image. I like the colors cool details.

I would have made sure to get the entire right tower in the frame. We don't need to see the fence at the bottom, since it isn't the subject.

Otherwise, I like the framing and the angle you got this at.

Looking at the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC HSM Lens for Pentax K here : Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC HSM Lens for Pentax K 58C109 B&H Photo

But I can't pull the trigger for at least a couple weeks or so. I could put it on a credit card if I thought the deal wouldn't last... but my wife doesn't like that idea haha.

Should I be worried about the discount disappearing?

I am planning on purchasing the sigma to replace my kit lens, but I am hesitant to get a lens that I will want to take out into the back country without WR.

Is there a good alternative that's as fast as the sigma at a similar price point? Would the DA 16-85 be a good option if I was willing to shell out the extra $200-$300 for it? Of course I am losing a lot of f-stops that way... hmmm... should I just take the Sigma out with me and try to avoid dust, etc?

Even the 55-300? I know it's a little better but it's still the same optics as the 55-300 kit lens, isn't it?

The one review that we have on the lens review page makes this lens sound a lot better than the kit lens, but I am not too trusting. An in depth review would be great!

Sigma 18-200 vs Sigma 17-50 & DA 55-300 PLM

I am looking into upgrading my kit with the Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 (replacing the kit lens) and the DA 55-300 PLM (replacing my other kit lens, the DA 55-200).

But... I saw a lens for sale locally that got me thinking. It's a Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 C Macro OS HSM for $250.

That lens could kind of replace both my kit lenses for a fraction of the cost. It is rated at 9 on our review pages... but there is only one review. And of course I wouldn't be getting nearly the quality of lens as the 17-50.

My question to you all: Is the savings worth it? I estimate the cost of the other two lenses to be about $800 if I can get one of them used, so I would be saving ~ $550.

Dude, you sound exactly like me when I got my K-50! Our areas of interest are pretty much identical too. I also chose Pentax because of the awesome features that nobody else seemed to have, such as focus peeking, weather resistance, etc!

Anyway, welcome.

I am no expert but here is some completely unsolicited advice just in case it helps: the biggest lesson I have learned from my experiences with the k-50 is that photography should be done for yourself first. Take every shot with no intention of ahowing it to anyone... that way you take the shot that makes you happy. If it ends up being something you want to share, great, but that's just a bonus.

My second biggest lesson is that glass is very important. Get some good glass asap. People here can help you do that without breaking the bank. The kit lens will limit what you can achieve in some ways and could lead to frustration. I think my biggest mistake with the k-50 was not finding a way to get better lenses for so long and often feeling frustrated that my images lacked the x-factor that I was seeking.

I didn't find them to be ignorant, just having a different opinion than most Pentaxians. I was disappointed that they didn't talk about more models, such as the K-3, etc. What in particular do you think they are ignorant about?
