52 mm RC49 style hood/cpl/52-49 step up/lens, BUT, the hood might not be as effective because of its larger overall diameter.

My understanding is that Apply All does not work cumulatively with Apply One and over-rides any previously applied Apply One settings.

Looking for a light but sturdy tripod

Light, sturdy and cheap don't come together in a good tripod.

Be prepared to spend more, maybe on carbon fibre.

I'm intrigued, though. My 055XPROB is heavy but far from unsturdy.

Sensor Clening

Sorry Bob, the problem is more to do with you than Pentax.

I've shot Pentax for years, from the K100D onwards, and have never had 'major issues with the K100D sensor getting dirty every time I changed the lens'.

The very occasional mote of dust, yes, but never more than that.

My simple 'hygiene' involves making sure I'm not in a situation where there is airborne dust, that the mount end of the lens is clean, and that the camera mount is facing down when I change lenses.

DA* 50-135mm F2.8 Slow To Focus Or Doesn't Focus

The 50-135 is slow to focus straight out of the box, so I'd recommend you check out any 50-135 (or for that matter the 16-50) against a known good copy before concluding it's dying.

All the internal battery does is retain settings. Your Q will continue to work fine, but you'll have to reset time, etc, each time you change batteries.

Front/Back Focus issue

Take a shot of a brick wall, or something with a regular pattern, where you are standing at right-angles to it, both vertically and horizontally. The bricks/pattern should be equally focussed all around the edge of the frame.

Don't know if this helps? https://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2012/05/testing-for-a-decentered-lens-an-ol...ts-a-makeover/

Return it? Not necessarily.

You are always likely to have differences at either end of the range with any zoom.

You could consider (a) an average AF adjustment between the ends, and/or (b) fine tune for the focal length you are likely to use most often.

K-500 aperture control block failure - how screwed am I?

I'd go back to Johnsons (assuming that's who you went to) with links to various examples of the failure, and suggest that notwithstanding what they have to say, it clearly is an inherent fault and that you intend going though your local Trading Standards, etc, as the camera is clearly not fit for purpose. Worth a try?

Would you return this lens?

I had the same sort of foreign object floating around in a new 50-135.

Returned it, but by the time it had been jostled about by the courier en route to the Pentax service agent, when examined by them it was nowhere to be seen!

I made the point that as if was that easy to move around, who could say if it would or wouldn't end up jamming a moving part inside the lens, or exit the lens into the camera body?

They changed it.

I would advise you to do the same.

Looking for suggestions for photo and video storage and sharing.

+1 for a NAS, but you'll need to think the storage strategy through fully.

I use a two disk Synology NAS, in RAID 1 configuration, which means each disk is an exact 'mirror' of the other. Attached to the NAS is a usb external hard disk which is used to back-up the most critical files from the NAS.

On one of my PC's is a file containing all my photos, which is copied on a regular basis to the NAS, plus another usb external hard disk attached to the PC.

So, counting the two disks in the NAS, it's back-up, the PC and it's backup, I have five copies of my photographs.

The risk, however, is that they are all in my house, so a fire would see them all destroyed.

I'm just in the process of looking for external storage, be it physical or virtual (cloud), that I can back up to too.

I might go down the route of installing another NAS at a family members house, as the NAS units can be accessed remotely.

Over the top? Yes, but it's a life time of memories.

Type of oil for lubricating mirror gears?

Sure the mirror isn't stuck in the up position because it's sticking to the foam that absorbs the mirror impact? The foam gets sticky over time as it degrades. Which isn't to say that your lubrication suggestion is wrong of course.
