Looks like Salmonberry, Walt, Rubus spectabilis. Blooms are coincident with west coast arrival of the first salmon runs in the spring thus the name, and also with the arrival of the first Rufous Hummingbirds. - Jack

I think this is a method to remove dark current discontinuities between various sections of a sensor, i.e., to normalize sensor dark current performance among the various discrete sections of a sensor wafer that are not from the same manufacturing process. In other words, it tries to get the whole sensor to perform with the same dark current characteristics even though the sensor may be composed of different wafer segments.

I don't see this as negating the need for dark frames in astrophotography but it would lead to better homogeneity across the sensor and thus a better baseline for gathering your dark frames. In short, it should lead to better dark frame optimization. I think this is targeted more at the in-camera long exposure dark frame subtraction.

I agree. These mini-roses are never labelled as to color of the blossoms so it is always a surprise. For the record, exposure was brought down a touch in post but color and saturation were untouched.

It isn't just Ruby-throateds. Any N. American hummer is oriented toward the red end of the spectrum, possibly all hummers. It would be interesting to see if this has more to do with the red end or if it is a UV pattern that we cannot see.

If I recall correctly, the lens mount flange on the back of the lens must be electrically conductive for CIF to work. For some of my old lenses, I need to short out a couple of the contacts with tin foil or conductive tape to get them to work.

Sorry, I misread your post. But I am surprised since you are the first person I have heard of seeing nasty artifacts in low light photos with the K-1 II. Unless you are into the astronomically high ISOs.

Seeing as how you can mold any raw file into the image you want (within reason), I take it you are a jpeg shooter? I love my old Taks and M-series lenses specifically because the lower contrast allows me more latitude in post-processing.

Note there is an error in the command given to extract the info using exiftool. It should be (using one of my K3's files):

exiftool -a -u -g1 K3A_0237.DNG

Note the space between -g1 and the filename.

Nice photo of a male Mallard. In summer, ducks molt most of their feathers and replace them with new ones. During molt, male mallards resemble females. However, the color of the bill does not change - orange with dark edges for females, and yellow-green for males. - Jack

How did you install the program, Thor? There is a PPA available for the most recent couple of *buntus. It could be you are missing some library that XFCE doesn't have but GNOME does. - Jack

Nice suggestions. But the K-1 is way more than a wedding camera. The outdoor screen brughtness settings can be very useful for some genres.

Fantastic work! The only thing I am missing is the true colour of the surrounding stars. It would be a lot more work, though, to get rid of all the stars and overlay an RGB image of just the stars. - Jack

Looks like one of the Boletus genus of mushrooms, some of which are very tasty. Note that the sporangia under the cap are formed of tubes not gills. As with all mushrooms, identify it before you attempt to eat it.
