The first is a composite of the moon taken with my K-5 at 450 mm (for an effective focal length of around 675 mm), and the night sky with my Samyang 14 mm, both on the same night in the Santa Ynez Mountains. The second is a night shot looking up the face of Morro Rock using the 24-70 mm. Orion's Belt can be seen left of center. In the versions posted here, far fewer stars are visible than in the images I'm looking at in Lightroom. Not sure why this is the case.

Thanks Jer.... I haven't been active on this site for awhile for several reasons, now it seems that something is different... lots more activity and I'm seeing comments on pictures I posted a long time ago. Has something changed in the way the site is run or did it suddenly get more popular?

Great shots! What kind of bird is this?
Can't help with the focus question. Could it have anything to do with the weight difference? The K-1 is quite a bit heavier than my K-5 so I have to concentrate more on holding it still.

What an awesome sky! I love the background in this shot, with the retreating silhouettes. I suggest cropping the bottom 40-50% or so, to see what that looks like, that would really emphasize the background and sky.

Thanks veraser, I'm pleased to be the subject of your first post! Nice idea on rotating the 3rd image, looks good!

The orange/red area is just the top of the small cactus, the whole thing is only about 4 inches high.

A very unusual weather pattern came through today, misty and damp. More like the Oregon coast than southern California in late May. But the heavy dew on this cactus caught my eye and I had to shoot it.

The view from Zabriskie Point, only this time looking towards the east at the rising sun. The more common view from this point is looking west towards the Panamint Mountains.
