Pentax flashes versus 3rd party

I have 2 YN585EXs and have been using them for a few months now with no problems. had to return 1 for some random triggering issue but a replacement is working fine. If you don't care for HSS and Weather sealing then the YN585EXs are so much better for the price.. that I would not bother getting AF540FGZii (I have both AF540FGZii, AF360FGZii and AF540FGZ, the old version).
I don't particularly like the missing bounce card on the new Pentax FGZii versions. So more often I prefer using the 585EXs and older FGZ for this reason alone.

DFA 70-200 over exposing

What metering mode are you using? And what part of the scene was metered? The story does not seem to add up. WHen in manual mode you an pretty much stop down everythign lower the ISO and increase the shutter speed to get a dark (no light) frame. Even if it is stuck at f2.8 the other parameters should help you get the correct exposure provided you are using the correct metering mode (Spot, Center weighted, Matrix)

One more time: DA* 16-50mm vs. Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 (AF adjustment)

Great recommendation. I would do this too. Mine is actually already tuned at the long end. So I never bothered resetting it.

I have a great copy of the Tamron but just don't like the rendering albeit sharper from DA* in some situations.

The reason I bought this lens was because Tamron 24-70/2.8 was/is the best over all lens between CanNikony offerings. And Pentax just picked it up from there and only made it better. So it was a no brainer.
There is no better 24-70/f2.8 out there to meet your sharpness needs. Tamron (rebranded but only better) is your only option.

Which k-70 package?

K-70 with kit 18mm-135mm. That lens covers 60-70% of focal length situations as in group and portrait shots and is decently sharp (definitely sharper than the other kit lenses in the competition. Also the DC motor is more silent than the screw drive and there is WR on this one.

I see one bashing review on the corner performance of this lens on B&H. That review bothered me. I don't believe my copy is that bad. I mean I did not even worry about the corner sharpness to an extent. But I am thinking I should do a detailed test to see how bad my copy is.

I still use it on my K-1 at times when I need 300mm and not the entire frame. I loved it every bit on the K-x kit I got years ago. Its small, light weight, great reach and probably best kit zoom in that range amongst CaNikOny offerings. Focuses faster on K-X than on my K-5ii.

Exactly... they are still using the old 50 cent processors on their cameras. The Accelerator Unit was a bit of an enhancement, more of a core added, to share the load but it could use more horsepower for sure given the processors are going for cheap these days.

But even before then they need some serious research work on the AF capabilities.

Nikon D3500 with 18-55 and 70-300 lens kit is selling for $500 at Costco that comes with a Bag, Extra battery, and a 32GB SD card. I agree its not nearly as good of a body as KP (D3500 is down right cheap feeling and it actually is) but it has possibly the same sensor as KP and that 24mp sony sensor is no slouch. So there are competing deals for noobes

The lens is overexposing wide open, is it normal?

Glad it worked out. I often use Spot metering when shooting people against bright light instead of fiddling with the EV compensation and it makes the exposure eazypeezy (if thats even a word).
This also means you may need to occasionally decouple AF and AE locking at times so that you can spot meter the light from anywhere in the frame that needs to be correctly exposed but not focused on, lock the exposure after metering it and then recompose the frame and let AF do the focusing on the subject I need in focus but light from a different spot. This way I get the exposure on the metered light from elsewhere in the frame and not the AFed area.

Meter what is needed and the rest will fall in place, after all its all about light. This also means people who use the right metering find the metering lever on K-5ii very handy as it is a short cut to making changes quickly. Love Pentax usability over all other brands for these reasons.

Cheers.

Spot metering doesn't work?

Which Camera? and Which lens? What Mode were you using on the camera?
I use the spot metering all the time on my K-01, K-5iis (as that is the only way to get the moon correctly exposed at night) and never had issues with it. The lens could be severely de-centered which may cause this problem as the circle of the moon does not fall on teh metering sensor at all but sideways away from the metering sensor.
Also in live view the LCD keeps blinking the moon bright and Red for over exposure but that is just live. The picture comes out perfect when spot metering the moon.

Although interesting, this is not the best test given you are metering the entire frame and not the flower. Please switch the metering mode to Spot and meter the flower and repeat the tests.
Some explanation from me is this...
In pattern metering the entire frame is being metered for exposure and wide open can cause less than optimal kind of light (fuzzy, defocused, PFed area) coming into the lens/metering sensor from the corners causing the meter to go off a little. There could be more or white/gray/Purple in the frame based on the DoF wide open.
In your scenario I am thinking there is no significant light difference between the first 2 apertures for the metering mode to change any of the values. With a smaller aperture at f4 the DoF is less shallower and it probably sees better and the light difference and default algorithm in camera for the metered values kick in.

Looks like the camera fell in the lake and then when water all dried up someone found it while walking around at the base of the lake. That lens seems to be a corrosion from a water body does and not really banged up in the trunk if you ask me.

This restored version is fabulous.

Kenro 3265 222 Grip Action Ball Head w/ 200Pl-14 QR Plate f/Manfrotto Tripod USA 719821287667 | eBay

On the other hand you can convert your existing ball head to use the PL200 plates by replacing the top part of your existing ball head by the one knock off you mentioned in your original post.
