We live about 15 minutes from Marysville that got totally destroyed except a handful of houses. It has a population of 700 and no one knows how many people got killed there.
But amazing enough the fires went around our place. although all around us everything has bee burnt.

the internet here has just come on this morning.

Has anyone got or heard about the third party macro rings that you can (apparently) screw onto the end of your lense and works wonders with up to 10x magnification. take a look at this link on ebay to see what I mean: MACRO CLOSE UP LENSES for Pentax K10D K100D K110D !!! - eBay (item 170239304183 end time Jul-20-08 03:51:42 PDT)

are these rings good or just rubbish???

HELP with understanding external flash....

Thanks for those tips Nige,
I can figure out what the charts mean now :) I think the flash I've got is a little bit different than yours, as it connects and intergrates with my K10D quite well. I set can set the camera to red-eyeflash or trailing-curtain-sync and it sends that to the flash..... anyway thanks for your sugestions......

HELP with understanding external flash....

I checked it with my Voltmeter and it registered at 14.20 volts, so I assume that it will be fine with my camera! :) it apears to be a farily modern flash as it talks to my camera and the camera registers it as a flash and it can control the brightness and modes of the flash.
I'd already taken 2 dozen photos with the flash before I posted here so I assume that it would have already fried the camera if it was too high voltage
thanks a lot for your sugestions

HELP......Sigma 70-210 lense

I took the lens to a friend (who knows heaps more about the technical side of things than me) and he examined it with a magnyfiying glass. there is one contact that is not sticking up as much as the rest. He said that is has hardly been worn while the other contacts have got a worn patch on them. He thought that it was probably a manufaturers fault because it apears to have been like that for a long time. Anyway we cleaned them using methylated spirits and a micro fibre cloth..
the lense has been working fine ever since ....................well so far at least. perhaps that contact was dirty and with the short conection it wouldn't take much to stop it from conecting. ;) it is still shorter than all the rest of the contacts
anyways I'm happy :D

HELP......Sigma 70-210 lense

I recently got a sigma 70-210mm f4-5.6 UCII lense for my Pentax K10D (second hand and quite cheap)
Its auto focus and everything worked fine when I got it. I took the lense off to put one of my other ones on, when I put my 70-210 lense on again the auto focus wouldn't work!!! I can feel that the focus motor has connected with the lense. On the camera lcd display for apature it says F----- . The Crazy thing is that I can still adjust the apature using the rear e-dial but I just can't see it untill after I take the photo and I check the photo info. the other crazy thing is that even though it is only a f4.0 lens if a flick the rear e-dial all thy way back ( and keep flicking for a while) I take the photo and looking at the photo info it says that it was taken at f1.2 apature (wow what a great lense!!!!)
All these problems happend once before but it suddenly started working again
I hope somone can help me!!!

I got my K10D on ebay for under $1000 with the basic 18-55 kit lense (november last year) . I'd never pay the full retail price. I guess I was taking a risk but I did heaps of research on SLRs and for what the Penatx had to offer for the price was excellent.
Here in Australia nearly all the big camera shops sell pentax cameras, I saw the 20D the other day.
