Item for Sale
FA* 200mm F/4 Macro

Asking Price
$3550

Item Location
Illinois (United States)

Item Description
Yes, this is the wonderful and rare FA* 200 F/4 Macro. ;)
Having owned it, I now understand why it is any macro photographer's dream. The beautiful image quality and scarcity make this a very sought-after lens that you don't just come across everyday.

This copy of the lens is in exceptionally good condition. The silver paint, (which is known to scratch very easily) looks almost new- only visible scratches on this one is right above the aperture ring setting mark and another one to the right of it. (see 3rd picture)
There is also some very light wear around the tripod mount. (see 4th picture). Other than that, the outside of the lens is spotless!
The interior of the lens is a little tricky to photograph well, but it is clean, the only thing I could find is a single dust particle toward the center of the lens, right under the first glass.

Regarding the AF, I think I speak on behalf of all the FA* 200's- like expected from a macro lens, the AF does often "search" when it is a very close macro in poor lighting condition. With better lighting, the AF's performance gets better and it is quite quick and accurate with subjects that aren't in macro range. And believe me, you will love the way this lens isolates your subject from the background, it turns the background all soft and dreamy while your subject is beautifully and sharply focused.

It comes with its original lens booklet, case, front cap, metal rear cap, hood, and a Pentax SMC 67mm UV filter. And of course, free bragging rights are included. :D

I was looking for a fair asking price, but haven't been able to find any recent sales of the lens anywhere. Most recent I could find have been from 1-2 years ago, in which the lens went in the high $3000's. I will consider a best offer if there are no takers for the asking price.

My honest reasons for selling them are that I don't use them very often and I don't feel that my amateur skills will ever be able to catch up to what this lens is really capable of achieving. Even though they are amazing lens, I would be willing to sacrifice them and in turn purchase something, such as the DA* 50-135 2.8, that I would feel much more comfortable with. :)

Probably the single photo that I've done that has taken the most amount of time... the subject did not have dark skin; it was a ton of acrylic paint and make up. ;)

Looks fine to you guys?

So, I came across some long-lost photos from about a year ago when I was still very much a noob to photography and didn't know what I was doing (thankfully, I was using a good lens, so that saved me :D).
Anyway, the JPEGS were pretty ugly... so, a little Photoshop magic and here they are.
I thought you guys might enjoy some of their funny poses.

Long time no see, PF members! I've been pretty inactive for the last year or two... photography has been put off on the back burner... :(

Here's a new photo I'd like to share and get some opinions on.. see if I've still got it. ;)

For those that aren't familiar with the book, one of the central themes is getting lost and caught-up in a materialistic world. The eyes are a dominant symbol, meant to represent the dullness, the emptiness, and corruptness of America's shift in values... towards consumeristic / materialistic.

Hopefully they'll be more to come... thinking of doing a themed series with other books and works of literature.

"I told her she might fool me but she couldn’t fool God. I took her to the window" – with an effort he got up and walked to the rear window and leaned with his face pressed against it – "and I said ‘God knows what you’ve been doing, everything you’ve been doing. You may fool me, but you can’t fool God!’"

Standing behind him, Michaelis saw with a shock that he was looking at the eyes of Doctor T. J. Eckleburg, which had just emerged, pale and enormous, from the dissolving night.

"God sees everything," repeated Wilson.

...Wilson stood there a long time, his face close to the window pane, nodding into the twilight."

No problem! Playing around with the settings is the best way to learn.

You should also check to make see if maybe you've accidentally changed some settings that are yielding these results. Go to the INFO button and then the top two on the left should be CUSTOM IMAGE and DIGITAL FILTER. Make sure you have those off or on natural settings if you don't want any of the effects affecting your photos.

As long as you like the results, that's all that really matters. :)

I had the A 70-210 f/4, a heavy beast with terrible zoom creep, but it was great! I only sold it when I upgraded to a DA* 50-135, but I kinda regretted it and kinda still do...
Some of my very first images were taken with it...

Definitely a great selling point to use against CaNikon.

Options for a small, fixed-lens camera w/ hot-shoe?

Thanks for the options, guys! I'm not in a super hurry right now, but I'll keep my eyes peeled should some good deals spring up locally or on the forums.

I love the look of the Fuji X10, that Panasonic and Samsung look nice and sleek as well, and a Q would be nice to have, but I don't think I want another interchangeable lens camera nor one with a fixed length lens.

K-30 focusing and lens mount newbie questions
Posted By Julie
Replies: 5

1- do i have to worry about focusing motor being on the lens or not? I know that in Canon or Nikon entry level cameras you need a motor in the lens, otherwhise the camera will not autofocus. Is this is the same for Pentax K-30?
Nope, you don't have to worry about buying special lenses with built-in focusing motors. If the lens is advertised as a Pentax autofocus lens, it will work fine on your K-30 without any problems.
2- what do i need to look for in a lens to be able to autofocus?
As in what to look for when buying a lens? Usually it will be mentioned in a description if the lens is an AF lens or a manual lens if you are buying it from on online store. If not mentioned, you can always contact the seller to double-check. For Pentax-branded lenses, lenses in the Pentax K, M, and A series will all be manual and lenses marked Pentax F, FA, DA, DA*, DFA will be AF lenses.
3- What does the K-30 have to autofocus? I think I read screw? what does this mean in when compared to whatever canon and Nikon use (if they have something different)? Pentax DSLRs have AF built into the bodies. Older Pentax AF lenses from the F, FA series have screw-drive auto focus, a few DA lenses have screw drive, but a few "higher end" ones have SDM focusing, which is quieter than screw-drive lenses and goes through the electrical contacts rather than screw drive. DA* lenses have SDM focusing. (I don't know about Canon/Nikon, sorry)
4- I Know that K-30 has K mount lenses, However, I know that you can use older lenses as well.
......a) what lenses can I use? K? what else?
......b) What can/can't I do with the lenses mentioned in a). autofocus? aperture?
This is a helpful page ---> Pentax K-Mount Lenses Explained: The differences between various Pentax lens series
Also, this page takes you to the lens reviews and gives a basic little description of the lens series on the left side:
