If you find a German dealer citing a one year warranty, you should inform him that he is breaking EU regulations. Customers are ensured a minimum two year warranty within the EU.
Fotolooman.nl offers a five year warranty with camera purchases as standard. Going ABOVE the minimum is legal! :)

The issue has nothing to do with units of measure, or labeling laws, it is simply marketing. Make a container look like a similar but larger volume, and price it the same and most people won’t read the label to actually determine whether what you are buying is a fair value in terms of price per unit volume.

If retail laws required (at least on the shelf) the price per unit volume and the actual price of the container, you would learn pretty fast to read the lables

Can't you simply buy a gallon of milk, pour it into a measuring cup(s) and determine that way? Or a scale and weigh it.

I am neither conceited nor right -

I just wonder why so many people are not only content to be wrong, but don't try to hide the fact.

Then again, there is a theory that, although the numbers of the human race are increasing, the total intelligence pool remains a constant.

Bear encounters

Due to the ever-increasing frequency of human-bear encounters, the Fish, Wildlife and Game Authority has issued the following advice and guidance for hikers, hunters, fishermen and any other persons using wild areas in a recreational or work-related capacity, including precautions to be taken in an area where bears are known or thought to be present.

Firstly, outdoorsmen and women are advised to wear small noisy bells attached to their clothing, in order to give advance warning to bears which may be nearby, so that they are not taken by surprise, which can provoke attacks should the bear(s) feel threatened.

It is also advised that 'Pepper Spray' is carried, and deployed in the event of a threatening encounter with a bear.

A warning of recent nearby bear activity is the presence of bear faeces or droppings. By examining this evidence, it is possible to tell the species of bear which has left its mark, thus :

Black bear droppings are smaller, and usually contain lots of partially digested berries, mixed with liberal amounts of squirrel fur, thus indicating the diet of these creatures.

Brown, or grizzly, bear droppings are substantially larger, contain many small bells and smell strongly of pepper.

Just woke up this morning having dreamt about the new 16-50... I was in a Japanese camera store and they had the new lens. It was tiny and all metal but had a strange dent in the barrel that the Japanese salesman told me was there for a purpose. IQ was excellent and just as I was about to pay for the lens I looked around and the store had become a grocery store and I was holding a bunch of vegetables...

I think it's time for this lens to become real, or my K-3 III to arrive! :D

K-3 iii track meet success
Posted By MrNPhoto

I've been photographing high school track meets for years and have come to know the behavior of my K-3 very well, including during action sequences tracking runners, jumpers and throwers. I have learned when my K-3 was likely to get and keep action in focus, and when it was likely to lose focus, fall behind the action or simply fail to produce the kinds of results I desired from AF-C. I've been able to capture great photos of action with the K-3, but at the same time I have also had many failures which were simply beyond the camera's abilities.

I've been waiting for the new APS-C flagship to replace the K-3, and desperately wanted to see improvements that would have a visible, tangible improvement in auto-focus and use for sports. I bought a K-3 iii as soon as I could.

Today was my first chance to put the K-3 iii to the test at a track meet. The lens I used was the Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 APO DG HSM. 90% of photos were TAv mode, aperture was 3.5-5.6, and shutter speed was 1/800 to 1/2000. Shots were ~80% AF-C, Expanded Area AF-S, with AF hold OFF. AF-C release was focus priority for 1st frame and action. All images captured in RAW DNG to ProGrade 128GB UHS-II v90 card.

I took ~2500 photos, a mix of active, moving shots, still shots, long auto-bursts, intermittent bursts, tracking runners moving towards the camera, runners moving parallel to the camera. I put it to the test.

The results exceeded my expectations. The K-3 iii delivered on its promise. It's the real deal auto-focus and AF-C improvement I've been waiting for.

Some observations:
  • Not every photo was in perfect focus, but my general hit rate was way better than I ever had with the K-3. And this is only my first time using the Mark iii, so I expect this to improve.

  • Image quality is fantastic, and image noise is significantly improved over the K-3, even at low (100-400) ISO. I'm using a custom NR curve that turns the NR to the lowest level for ISO 100-800.

  • The K-3 iii excelled at grabbing focus when rapidly switching between runners. One challenge is when there are multiple runners in the same heat that you want to capture. You need to grab focus on one, fire a quick burst then rapidly switch to the second runner, and try to get a burst in focus before they go past.

  • The high FPS mode is great for jumpers/throwers.

  • I often hit the buffer limit, causing me to miss some action. Buffer clearing time was very fast using the v90 SD card. I imagine that more careful use of the Medium and High drive modes will help alleviate that issue.

  • I miss seeing the focus point in red using AF-C. Too easy to lose the black squares in busy backgrounds. I just had to hope the focus points were where I wanted them.

  • Battery life is slightly worse than the K-3. I needed to swap the battery during the meet. A grip with a second battery is coming.

  • Setting optimal customizations and settings for the E-dial will be very useful once I become more comfortable with the camera.

I've attached some sample photos from the meet. These are just quick exports to JPG. It is hard to "prove" that the K-3 iii performance is significantly improved just by posting a couple of JPGs, and these might not even be the 'best' examples I have to show what the K-3 iii can do. Rather, just consider them as evidence that I'm really happy with my K-3 iii today.

Hope others find this useful. Let me know if you have any questions.

Cheers,
Mike

True but enough is enough. Therefore I, that have a K-1, a 645 NII, an A* 300mm and a FA* 645 300mm so all of this isn't only theory but above all practice, stop here.
FoV Calculator already set at FF and 250mm to show that the diagonal FoV is 9,89

False and totally ludicrous ! I sometimes use my 645 FA 400 mm f/5.6 with an adapter on my Pentax K1 (no automation whatsoever then) and a 400 mm FL is a 400 mm FL. The FF sensor simply intercepts the center of the aerial image produced by the lens. Please change the subject and come back to the question of the Original Poster.

He has written "equivalent" but the statement is not corret. A 300mm for 645 has, in the 135 format, a FOV like every other 300mm, as he wrotes it seems that if you put the FA* 645 300mm f/4 on a K-1 then it obtains a FOV like a 400mm... that is impossible.

Example: you can say that the FOV of a 300mm for 645 is the same of the FOV of a 186mm for 135.

Nope, you have to evaluate the FOV column of the fist graph, so:
1 - the SMC pentax-FA* 645 300mm F4 ED [IF] has on a K-1 a FoV of 8,2, to match this FoV on a 645 NII you have to use a 483mm.
2 - the SMC pentax-FA* 645 300mm F4 ED [IF] has on a 645 NII a FoV of 13,3, to match this FoV on a K-1 you have to use a 186mm.

Then if you put a SMC pentax-FA* 645 300mm F4 ED [IF] on a K-1 you don't obtain a FoV of 5,3 like a 483mm on 135

Pentax K3-III for Sports (Motorsports) - Test and sample images Formula E Monaco 2021

Hi guys,

Its me again, the crazy motorsport fan that takes pictures from Barcelona.
This past week I was offered by the importer of Pentax in Spain, Reflecta to test that brilliant camera for a week as I was going to travel to Montecarlo to cover the 2021 Formula E Monaco E-Prix, and so I did.

Firsts impressions of the camera once I had it and was at home was it was looking very promising. Menus are good once you get used to them, new functionalities as the new layout of buttons works fantastic once you get to know them, and the possibilities about AutoFocus looked very promising. Also liked the grip and how it suits my small hands.

So I went to Monaco and the event runs just one day, and here I would like to share with you some sets of images un-edited I took with this camera and the following lenses: Sigma 100-300mm F4 and Sigma 17-50mm f2.8.
Images where taken usually in a regular mode using the ViewFinder but also some where taken using the LightView and it also worked great.

Let me leave here some examples (following after I will let some sequence of 12 shots taken from the same car to show how does the camera perfom while taking a secuence of images of a racing car coming towards us)
I have been posting about this in the spanish forum also (pentaxeros.com) so if you are there you might be familiar with my impressions and my images

Some random thoughts about how does this camera works:
I was in Monaco in 2019 covering the Formula 1 Grand Prix and I've been there in 2017 and 2018 also as media for Formula 1 smaller formulas always as an accredited photographer using my K3 and K3-II and the same lenses I spoke before about and what I found is that with this new camera is way easier to not say "easy" to picture images I was really having issues to create using either a K3 or a K3-II.

For example the exit of the tunnel where cars are coming towards you very quick was very hard for me to capture images of the cars in focus while here with the new iteration of the camera is way easier to do so.
Also the burst mode is super quick and I liked that, yet the buffer maybe fills too quick for my taste. But you can't have it all, do you?

_IMG8905 by Daniel Gonzalez Aguilera, en Flickr

This image comes from a 4 pictures where 2 were very good and 2 where not as good from a very unexpected situation where the driver almost colides to the barriers,

And then to finish the promised 12 photos taken following a car that was coming towards us, you'll see not every frame is in focus but I found it quite accurate and again taking those images there was way easier than doing so with my previous Pentax aps-c cameras.

Now thoughts and impressions:
I was shooting at not "single point focus" as I usually do but at the first cross points focus and it works quite pretty well.
I was given a K3-III with no battery grip so I was using one single battery and I really was using ImageSync, the Wifi capability of the camera, the screen and touching it to zoom in and check details quite a lot and also the live view to shoot for example the shoots inside the tunnel and I've covered 3/4 of the sessions of the E-Prix with one single battery.

I just swap it to cover the race and the battery I swap out from the camera was still remaining 1/4th of its capacity but I was not willing to risk in running out of battery.

I hope you like it and it helps you find out if its a good camera or not. Some say is better than a 7D-II and similar to a D500 (but the D500 has more optics where to choose from, true, and a better buffer ratio).

Cheers!
