I have been shooting with Pentax for about Ten years, starting with a K20D , then K-30; and then K-50. About a year and a half agoI bought a used Sony a6000, I was curious about mirrorless, and the a6000 was supposed to have the worlds fastest autofocus when it was introduced. I got an 18-55 lens with it and bought a new Sony 20mm lens shortly after. Overall I have had 5 Sony lenses, the 18-55 is ok, the 20mm is good; a 55-200 was not very good; a 16mm prime was bad; and the 30mm macro is good. I was using the Sony for travel and street type shooting. Last summer I saw a great deal on the Pentax KP and went for it. My K-50 was aging, and I wasnít going to buy more lenses for the Sony because they are way too expensive for anything 300 or longer, where the fast focus would be useful I have barely picked up the Sony since getting the KP. I also bought the 55-300 PLM, the combo focuses extremely fast. The best features of the Sony are really fast burst speed and the small size with the 20mm lens. IQ is comparable to the K-50. The downsides are it is more difficult to set up, only one dial. I find it very difficult to shoot at night, maybe thatís operator error. Batteries expire much faster than the K-50. These are little things but little things are what can make a difference in your enjoyment. Maybe the Sony will be better for you, I just wanted to tell you my experience. There are advantages to each system, you just have to figure which advantages are best for you.

I also had the Pentax 100 macro, it was a great lens, however I didnít shoot that much macro and sold mine to get the DA* 300 Recently I bought a used Tamron 90 macro and it is also a nice lens, not quite as nice as the Pentax.

I don't think focus priority works when using live view because it uses contrast autofocus. I think it only works when using the viewfinder. I like to manually fine tune focus on live view using the focus peaking and magnification.

I'm guessing your test scenario you may not have focused and the camera was probably shot continuously. When you did your 110 shots you were probably shooting normal, with the camera on when not shooting, and focusing, etc. Certain scenarios of camera use require more power, the display on the back requires power. I never get the same number of shots from a battery charge. I'll get less when using a tripod, because I use live view and take my time setting up a shot. If I go out and shoot using Hi continuous shooting, I'll get a lot more shots. Page 216 of the K-50 manual has tips about the display to reduce battery consumption.

A lot depends on what you are doing in Belize, I don't know much about Belize. My last outing (only had about an hour) a few days ago in rural southern Kentucky I shot only landscapes exclusively with the 55-300 PLM. I also had the DA 18-135, DA 15, and F50/1.7 with me, but the 55-300 was perfect. Most of the shots could have also been taken with the 18-135, but I feel the 55-300 is a little better lens, although I like them both. The 18-135 and 55-300 are equally versatile, depending on venue, and both weather sealed if that comes into play. I would say both are more versatile than the 10-20. The 10-20 would be most valuable for architecture, or tight streets.

Good answers so far, look at your file sizes in Explorer and you'll see lots of different sized files (unless you shot the same image over and over). The battery has nothing to do with the file sizes.

I think you have made good choices with the two zooms, the 35 could fill the gap nicely, if you plan on a lot of lower light shooting, maybe the 50. Have fun!
