It's easy to read too much into an animal's face, but Popsicle looks like one happy-go-lucky dog, immensely pleased with life.

Could be, although the label said simply "sulfur" whereas other mineral specimens on display were given correct mineral names, not the name of a metal or other material that might be separated from a compound.

I left a lot of surround on this image because I thought the blossom looked nice shining within the expanse of dark background.

You're very lucky to have a zoo close enough to visit regularly. The nearest large zoo for me would mean an all-day expedition, and driving either to Boston (yuck) or The Bronx (horrors!!).

Banded mongoose.

Bottle whale skeleton, in a shopping mall making a point about the dangers/problems of plastic in the oceans, and encouraging recycling or elimination of plastics AFAP. I would not mind going back to glass bottles that are washed* and reused, except the waste water from the cleaning would instantly become a major environmental concern. It isn't the products or the waste, it's the quantity, which leads to the real problem = too many people, which no politician is even willing to open or address.

*Wasn't it David Copperfield who for a while was working as a bottle washer? Perhaps it was Oliver Twist. It's been a long time since I read either of those classics.

It's kind of mystical when a cloud catches atop a mountain that way. I've wondered if the visual effect contributed to so many religions thinking that god(s) resided atop mountains.

I was unsure where to post this piece of bark found while we were out on our daily walk. Woodpecker holes, reasonably close to being arranged in vertical rows, uniform spacing down each row, and uniform size of holes. There were obviously additional vertical rows on the tree, and one of long rows on this piece looks sort of like an open zipper.

Water lily & pollinators Another English language inscrutable = pollen but pollinate or pollinator. There's probably some rule about a noun versus a verb from which a noun is derived, made up just to cover this case and a handful of others.

Layers - layers above, layers below - - filo dough has layers, cakes have layers, parfaits have layers, and there ain't nobody that don't like parfaits.
The layers below are very old, 400~500+ million. They've definitely gone stale and harder than a three-day-old bagel.

I purchased this multi-use camera (or strobe or reflector/diffuser) support about 50 years ago. Nicely fitted case and notice in it: 1) at far right two cubes with female 3/8X16 on all sides; 2) three 3/8X16 double ended male studs, one that's solid and two that have a threaded ring; 3) a 3/8X16 female to 1/4X20 male adapter; 4) a simple rod (right side of the lid) that can be inserted into a hole in several of the adapters to tighten or loosen. Second photo shows the basic low-support tripod, similar to many, many folding units. Second image shows how the fourth "leg" which has two sections can be used to raise the basic tripod (the bar of the clamp can also be used to raise it still higher). An ultra-low configuration using one of the two cubes. The clamp in action (no head attached) with the wood screw at one end removed. Once the wood screw is screwed in, any or all the posts or the ball head can be threaded onto it's 3/8X16 machine thread, and of course, it has a hole for the little rod to facilitate threading in and removing. There are literally scores, possible over a hundred ways to configure the components. I've used it various ways. DOWNSIDES: it's an extra thing to carry and the kit is too big for most camera bags. I have sometimes brought along only a few components that I anticipated would be useful. Also, the little ball head isn't very good, it shifts slightly when tightened and it's minute size inevitably means it isn't very strong. I have other ball heads, only slightly larger, that are much better. It's a kit that appeals to the Tinker Toy or Erector Set mind in we older but not quite grown-up photographers.

NEXT: I'm willing to go with more camera gear.

I wasn't sure this should go on this thread. It's a cut stone that gives the illusion of having something like a flower inside - looks a bit like a water lily. The effect isn't visible from every angle.
