These things come in waves. In the long run diversity tends to increase, and I think there will be demand for topic-based forums.
Definitely hope so :-)

K and M lenses with the K-1. How well does it work out?

I use K- and M-series lenses frequently. They are just as usable as Nikon lenses from the same era. Optically some of them are very good. Irrespective of manufacturer lenses from this era sometimes show CA, which may need some post processing. One advantage of Pentax bodies is the green button function for semi-automatic exposure adjustment with manual lenses.

Is my HD Pentax-D FA 24-70mm F2.8 ED SDM WR sharp enough?

It is really hard to judge as IQ suffers dramatically when sent as an attachment. I have found the DFA 24-70/2,8 to be sharp in the center already wide open, with edges and corners catching up when stopping down a little. The most annoying thing to me is vignetting wide open at short focal lengths. Fortunately this is fairly easy to fix in post processing.

Yes. On the other hand I was really delighted to hear Mr Farreng clearly confirming Pentax’s support to all the three formats.

Exactly. Data bus and processing capacity is the key to reaching the desired performance level (file size, frame rate, buffer size, AF, maybe composite viewfinder , noise handling etc). The electronics used in the previous models has reached its limits and this may well be one of the time consuming tasks with the new model. Once completed, they probably use the same technology with their next FF and MF models.

Biggest enlargement from K-1 you've been happy with?

I do big prints for exhibitions, but have to say I have not reached the limit for K-1 files yet. Fairly recently I made a 1m x 1,5 m reprint from an old K-10 10 MP file for exhibition use.
This was pretty much on the limits, did take some extraordinary tweaking in Photoshop. Nevertheless the result was just fine, even for gallery use. In addition to the pixel count the maximum enlagement size depends on a number of other factors. However, with similar precautions I would imagine you could triple the picture area using a K-1 file, provided the image itself is flawless.

Looking for Camera Body recommendations for night time exposure photos

Night exposures sometimes take a lot longer to process. It also depends on the settings and functions chosen (noise reduction etc ).
Modern cameras in general are faster than the K-100 due to their processing power and advanced electronics.
Low light exposure is an area where FF really excells. I knew to expect this when I upgraded to K-1. Nevertheless I was surprised to see the IQ provided by the bigger sensor.

I like the flexibility of the articulated screen. I have not had any problems with it, not even in freezing conditions. Would love to see the design in future bodies.

Big sensors do exist. They are used in medical imaging and other special applications. However, they are very, very expensive, and producing a 67 for 10k is not feasible at the moment. But who knows, maybe some day !
File sizes and image processing would also be an issue.

Pentax K-3 vs K-1
Posted By PePe
Replies: 22

Having owned them both the pros and cons:
K-3
+ fast frame rate
+ size and weight
+ pulling power due to lens factor
- high ISO performance

K-1
+ superior image quality
+ high ISO performance, dynamic range
+ somewhat better AF
- size,weight and price

I sold my K-3 and use the K-1 exclusively now. However, once the new APS-C body is available, I will probably buy it for telephoto use.

That sure looks strange. The damage seems to be behind the first lens.
The only explanations I can think of are:
- if exposed to sunlight, unexpected combinations of refractions and reflections may sometimes occur on lens surfaces, causing hot ”focal points” in strange locations.
- manufacturing defect
Difficult to know for sure or prove. Hope the dealer is co-operative!

Tokina 17mm RMC fd mount, Bad copy?

I have one of these lenses, use it mostly with the K-1. Have not seen anything like this. As mentioned above, it looks like light rays not hitting the sensor at the right angle in the edges of the frame. Does anyone know whether the sensor/pixel arrangements of the K-1 and A7III sensors differ in this respect?
