Use LRTimelapse to deflicker sequences and get smooth day2night transitions. Time spent for searching and trying other solutions is worth more than this application.

I use it. Great simple (and free) tool to prepare a series of luminosity masks (and delete them afterwards) and to add other effects (orton, sharpen, etc.).
Raya Pro and Instamask from Jimmy look too complicated for me, maybe I'm not fluent in PS enough to properly assess their power.

How to extract a single frame from PixelShift image in DCU?

Thanks, good idea. I forgot about the in-camera processing feature.

QuoteQuote:

What I do is to process the pixel shifted photo to TIFF in camera, with the PSR option turned off[...]
Then I export the pixel shifted original to TIFF via DCU[...]

and in both tiffs colors are consistent?

Thank you, beholder!

There's no such icon in DCU version 5.4.0. I downloaded the upgrade file, let's play then.

Is there a way to extract a single frame from PixelShift image in DCU?
I'd like to mask artifacts using a picture obtained from single frame processed with exactly the same parameters as the whole PxShift photo.
Or is it possible to save a PxShift image as a non-PxShift image?

Dilemma: Sigma 100-400 f4 Apo DG EX + Sigma TC 1.4x or Pentax 150-450

VoiceOfReason: thanks for the samples!

BTW - of course I meant sigma 100-300mm, not 100-400

Dilemma: Sigma 100-400 f4 Apo DG EX + Sigma TC 1.4x or Pentax 150-450

Soon I will have to decide whether to stay with Sigma 100-300 f4 Apo DG EX + Sigma TC 1.4x or sell the combo and get the Px telephoto. Whatever I choose I will have to stay with the chosen lens for years so I dont wan't it to be a stupid decision...

I use Sigma for birding and general nature/landscape pohotos.

I regret Sigma is not weather sealed -- but there's no problem to get a sleeve for $15 or less.
It's noisy. Skittish pheasants in my neighbourhood run away just before I press the shutter.
I've discovered that cropping photos taken by my Sigma (on K3-II) gives slightly better results than use it with TC. So TC is useless now.
On the other hand it's f4.

I expect 150-450 to be faster to focus, flare resistant, quiet. But is the IQ much better than Sigma?

Do you happen to have both lenses and give me a piece of advice?

TIA

Metz 64 AF-1 digital - new flash also coming for Pentax

Unfortunately, it's not Metz. Below is a reply from Metz technical support posted on local Polish Pentax forum:

Basically the value of the focal length which is used on the camera is transferred to the flash unit by a serial digital data bus. This camera data bus also includes a byte for the focal length. Therefore this byte transfers the value of the focal length to the flash unit and the flash unit sets the corresponding position of the zoom reflector.

However, we had to realise that the camera data bus of Pentax cameras transfers a maximum focal length of 105 mm respectively 70 mm (zoom size). If a longer focal length is used on the camera the camera still transfers the value of 70 mm as maximum value. This is why the flash unit mecablitz 64 AF-1 digital for Pentax can't recognise a longer focal length and sets always the 70 mm position at zoom size.

If a lens with digital focal length of 100 mm to 300 mm such as the mentioned Sigma lens is used the mecablitz 64 AF-1 digital already sets the afore-mentioned position of 70 mm at shortest focal length of the lens. If a longer focal length is used the reflector position is still set in 70 mm position depending on the afore-mentioned Pentax data transfer.

Unfortunately we can't change it by a modification of the mecablitz 64 AF-1 digital firmware. Normally the camera firmware has to be modified for this. Therefore if a longer focal length is used on the camera and the maximum guide number of the flash unit is needed the zoom reflector of the flash unit has to be manually set.

Best regards

Looking for a fair 18-55/16-45 comparision I've came across THIS today.
Maybe the methodology is not perfect but results stopped me from rapid purchase of 16-45 for bargain price.

Such combo works *very* fine.
You have to isolate some TC's pins to have correct exposure.
