DA* 16-50mm or Sigma 18-50mm F2.8

I went with the Sigma for many of the reasons Ben mentions.

However I just bought the Pentax. Now I'll lose money selling the Sigma. If you even think the Pentax is nice, get it or you lose out buying the Sigma, selling it, then buying the Pentax. I just learned that. PM me with an offer on the Sigma if you want to go that route (out for a week, with the Pentax, so don't expect a quick response).

I use the Lowepro Off Road Camera Beltpack but just had a case of sticker shock.

You might want to try either Lowepro Off Trail 1 or Lowepro Off Trail 2.

I usually change one side case to a water bottle case.

Old FD mirror lens - new digital life?
A brief comparision of photos from a Sigma 600/f8 mirror lens and cropped photos from Cannon 55-200 and 70-200 lens. The conclusion was that cropping the 200mm photo to get about the same field of view as the 600mm mirror lens gives better results.

Need advice on a couple of lenses for my new K10D please...

It sounds like you are doing outdoor shots in decent light.

16-45 f4 wide for lake shots, street performers at normal distances.

14 or 12-20 if you want wider

Others said the 55-300 but the 18-250 would also be good fo a general lens (although I rarely use mine).

If you have night shots of street performers you need something faster like the 35 f2. You might be too close fo the 50 f1.4.

Which bag to buy?

A belt bag like the LowePro Off Road is great. The bag itself is nice size and the two side pouches can be taken off or left on as you need.

What Default Settings To Use On The k200d/k20d

My K10 and K20 both shoot dark. I shoot RAW so data is not lost. To make PP easier I look at the histogram of the first shot of a scene and adjust eV (always up). The few times the red highlights blown flashes, I drop the eV and reshoot. Then check the histogram again.

18% Grey Micro Cloth

I shoot RAW and don't worry about exposure. I do use a Crown Royal bag or a Texas flag patch so I can compare colors during PP.

I can see the use for an 18 grey cloth. The camera has trouble with buildings with lots of white marble.

You stated USD so I guess you are not in the US. If you are in the US or Canada buy a used K10D. The prism viewfinder is nice. It should be around $500US. People are selling because they are upgrading not because the camera is bad. Don't be afraid because it is used.

CCD Vs CMOS

When I was looking at web cams I found that to get low light you used CCD. CMOS was not as good but was cheaper.

Samsung appaently found a way to get decent results from the cheaper CMOS sensor.

How do you sell your Pentax stuff

I bought a K20D so I have a K10D body aand some lenses from my LBA.

I don't want to just put it on ebay. I want to give people a good deal. Do you set a price and offer a discount for college ID (easy to fake).

There is no real difference between the back of my closet and trash can. My LBA is not for profit. I just don't want to sell it cheap to some one to re-sell on ebay.

Please give me some ideas.

Teleconverter vs Zoom & Crop?

You say you like the super zoom so you don't have to change lenses.

You will have to take off the lens to use a TC. Forget about using the TC with your super zoom.

Your basic choices are:

) get a 200mm and a TC and always use tem together to get more reach than your super zoom. Or just buy a longer lens without the need for a TC.

) get a 300 or 400 and a TC. Use the lens both with anxd without the TC to get two lens lengths.

K10D/K20D + Non Pentax 2.8 Lenses

I use the Sigma 18-50 f2.8 and Sigma 14 f2.8. I did buy the Pentax 50-135 f2.8.

I am happy with the 18-50 but the 14 is big and of limited use with my type shooting (which would apply to the Pentax 14 and is not a Sigma flaw.)

DA 40mm pancake or FA 50mm 1.4 ?

You are missing the point of LBA. The two lenses have different uses. The correct question is which to buy first. The 50/f1.4 is great for low light. I always carry it but rarely use it. From your comments you will use the 40mm more. When the light is low you will either reach for the 50mm or miss the shot. It is your choice.

Best "standard zoom" upgrade?

Buy a used Pentax 16-45. You can get them for close to $325 as people switch to the 16-50. Then buy a 50/f1.4 for very low light. Sell your kit lens. Your will then have a nice set up within your budget.

Need Lens Advice Please

The 21 would give you a better picture at 21mm focal length than the kit lens but would not help for the rest of your focal length range.

The 16-45 or *16-50 will give you better pictures across the full range of your kit lens plus wider, down to 16mm, pictures. The improvement may not be as good at 21mm than the 21 lens but the improvement across the zoom range plus the wider 16mm end for landscapes make either of these zooms a better choice for your type shooting. Wait until later to get the 21.

The above advice assumes you are keeping the kit lens with the 21. If you are dumping the kit lens and going strictly with primes then your 21, 43, 105 would be a nice start.

Comments on the SMC Pentax-FA 28-105mm F4-5.6 [IF]?

I have a similar Pentax lens (J series 28-105). This is a great focal length range.
1) Christmas, inside a normal size house: wide enough to show several kids openning presents, long enough to zoom in on a face.
2) From a car: wide enough for road side scenes and landscape.

You will like this lens.
