Impressive new specs of canon mirrorless camera leak - eos m5

If it is using the same sensor from the 80D. The sensor has dismal performance noise wise at ISO6400, worse in fact than my D7000 and obviously doesn't even come close to my D750.

This comes form personal experience editing files from a 80D recently.

Canon marketing machine

Canon, due to its popularity and volume of sales has a very good easily available 2nd hand market, in lenses, worldwide.

Plus they have the widest variety of lenses.

It would make perfect financial sense for any budding photographer to go the Canon route.

I would argue that they probably have the most accurate, fast, focusing systems and probably the most accurate white balance. This and the above mentioned is probably more important to a newbie in their purchasing decision as they wouldn't know anything about sensor design, dynamic range etc etc so it wouldn't feature in their buying decision

So possibly the Canon marketing machine is far better at understanding its "bread & butter" clients than the others.

K1 or D500???

I do find your post extremely amusing considering yourself and Norm have flamed every thread of those photographers who moved to a full frame setup

How many times did both of you express that you had no use for full frame and that your K3s were just as good as full frame, yet now you have bought into the hype and you Norm having to use meditation techniques to control your urges in buying the K1

Rupert, you now use the weakest of excuses to move to full frame - I mean why not purchase another K3?

There is one word that describes this and I'm sure even in your old age you are intelligent enough to know what it is - hypocrisy

Son Just Purchased Sony A6300 - Wow!

There are things that the A6300 will do that the K1 will find difficult to do - just as my iPhone 6 can give me a better panoramic picture than my D750 out of the box so to speak.

The 6000 series was designed to get brilliant pics,(out of the box so to speak) regardless of subject matter, by a novice photographer - and it does just that, in an age where people don't want to spend hundreds of hours learning.

The kind of person who would like the Sony are those who want to move up from say an iPhone camera, with the least amount of a learning curve

And in a skilled photographers hand it will easily deliver pics equal to any other camera on the market.

It's not quite my cup of tea but I can admire its technology and ability

Specs are one thing - how it actually performs is another - so even if it's a bit less costly than other brands - it will be judged by its performance

I'm still trying to figure out why anyone who has a K3 needs a FF - everyone who has one says that a FF has no real advantage.

This then begs the question - why is Pentax willing to risk bringing out a FF when no-one who uses aps-c Pentax sees any value in it

I'm finding the dynamic range from a D750 raw file at ISO10000 quite amazing - color rendition too

So I'm sure the D5 would be better - at a price of course

I still can't see why Pentax users are obsessed with Pentax FF

In many other threads, users of the K3 (the professionals) have stressed that the K3 can easily give the same IQ as a FF aka Nikon/Canon FF

So surely Pentax users can't really be wanting a Pentax FF only to be able to use their old legacy glass?

What other benefits would the Pentax FF actually offer ?

you did kind of conveniently leave out the cost of the dream FF camera to pair with those lenses - which exceeds top of the line aps-c by a huge margin

Most people look at the cost of the camera before the cost of the lenses

I was doing that with a K10d to ;-)

So the K3 should easily be up to the task - its less expensive than a Fuji XT 1

Not to sound condescending but you could have walked into an event like that with a basic Nikon/Canon setup costing a lot less than the Fuji and it would have been as easy as pie with probably 100% keepers.

I've never let emotion decide which camera to buy - as when you do stuff like that it is now a tool and that tool needs to get the job done with zero stress.

I don't want to walk into an event, stressing is my camera is going to focus proper, is the flash going to expose correctly - especially at what the Fuji costs

Lastly I cannot believe that a poster believes the K3ii to be primarily a "landscape" camera - this is Pentax's flagship aps-c camera - which as your chosen "tool" should be able to do everything as easy as lets say a Nikon D7200

The problem with Pentax aps-c users lusting for FF they are going to be faced with a premium model being released - not some entry level model - and they are going to have to dig deep for that luxury as Pentax has left the whole FF thing far to late.

A Nikon aps-c user lusting for FF has a whole range of FF dslr to choose from D610 will be soon at bargain prices now that the D750 is around - they even have the D800 going at bargain prices now the D810 is the new kid on the block.

The same goes in the Sony mirrorless world and more or less in the Canon world - 1d mkiv can be had for next to nothing as so can the 5D MK11

Then there's the lens choices - Canon & Nikon have "budget" and pro lenses at same focal lengths - tons of choices

The K3ii is Pentax's flagship aps-c yet I have yet to see one in anyones hands and I have traveled extensively internationally

Even when I was in Canada - Canon was the dominant brand - so I really don't how Pentax survives or how they are going to suddenly impact the FF market place

Great purchase

There are one or two threads now on FF and quite a few comments on how the K3 easily stacks up against the D750 - from K3 owners

Seeing that you seem to own a K3 yourself it would be nice to have your reasons in going to a Nikon D750

I own the the D750 but have only the experience of the Pentax K10D

I would personally look at the Nikon 18-35 too as its a much lighter lens although not as wide

The other option being the Nikon 16-35 F4

All highly regarded

What will I be missing or gaining if I continue to be with Pentax?

I don't see any conclusive evidence that the people who went to another brand, was because they thought that the new brand would make them a better photographer - many excellent togs over the years have switched brands

Some really enjoy their non pentax toy cameras more than the real serious ones :-))

Does owning a Pentax that maybe gets used one or twice a year make one a legitimate Pentaxian?
