Pentax K1000 Lever Stuck

Will the film takeup reel allow you to remove the film if the lever is jammed? I mean, will the reel be able to rotate to even allow you to take the film off it?

K-50 keychain

I was at Hunt's last week just before closing, and as I left, they locked the door behind me. The keychain for the key was a white K-50 (or K-30)! The recent dead K-50 thread reminded me of this, and the keychain camera probably had the aperture block failure.

**The Great Cloud Backup Storage Post**

It sounds like cloud isn't really viable for you, with your slow data speeds? I mean, you can probably limit what is stored to Backblaze or whatever, but it really seems like the limiting factor for what you want is your ADSL speed. Don't you have *anywhere* you can store a backup drive offsite? Do you have a non-photography job, and an associated office to store a drive? Or maybe get a safe-deposit box?

Why A BIG Camera When The Latest Smart Phones Are So Capable?

I am also not a fan of the ergonomics of the iPhone as a camera, but it is slightly better if you do this:

There isn't one button on the phone, there are 4 buttons. Hold the "camera" sideways, so the volume buttons are on the top. Press one of those to take a picture -- it's placed very similarly to the shutter button on a DSLR that way.

What if you use the Pentax Digital Camera Utility that comes with your camera? Will that retain the exif information? (I don't use this software much)

Dynamic Range, Film vs. Digital

This is the point of the underexposure/overexposure ranges in the article. He's illustrating how far you can pull or push the highlights and shadows, which will translate into compressing more dynamic range into a post processed photograph.

---------- Post added 05-04-19 at 10:36 PM ----------

I'm not sure this is the best comparison; the film shots in your example seem not to be postprocessed much, whereas the digital ones are. (In some cases, the digital ones look over processed, to me.) If you want to argue that people may not have access to good postprocessing (aka printing) capabilities with film, then I agree, but that's a different discussion.

FA 45-85mm at 85.....any good?

Film 645 opinion on that lens was that it was very good, even better than the FA45. I don't know any particular apertures' performance, but I would expect f8 to be pretty good at least.

The first review here says that f/8 and f/11 are superb on their 645z:

Kodak Ultramax 400?

---------- Post added 04-22-19 at 09:41 PM ----------

For color negative film, your choices are pretty much Kodak, Fuji, and Lomo. From that, you have to make your own decision regarding quality, style, and price, unless you can find something expired that's still in good condition.

There's the Kodak ColorPlus 200, which is pretty cheap, and not ISO 400, but 200 is better than 100.

I assume the future of it is states catching up with the increased sales on the internet vs. their decreased in-state sales, and the associated loss of tax revenue. I guess that people don't seem to be complying with the tax law voluntarily, they are changing their tactics to collect it.

I left a charged genuine Pentax D-LI90 alone for about a year and a half; when I found it and used it again it seemed to have significantly reduced storage capacity, but I think it came back up to normal after a couple cycles.

opinions on the Pentax mount

There has been some discussion before that the mechanical aperture mechanism was more of a pain for third-party manufacturers to deal with, so they were less likely to make Pentax-compatible lenses in that case. Though now Pentax has an electronic aperture capability in KAF4 lenses.

Camera connectivity

They could have the camera store the Wi-FI connection settings, including the password, so you would only have to type it the first time you connect. Though this seems to be more "computery" than cameras -- or at least Pentax cameras -- tend to be.

HDR photos (to be displayed on HDR displays)
Posted By leekil

I'm not sure you need anything particularly special to do this. You would have to start with a RAW image, in order to get the maximum number of bits for the HDR TV. Jpeg is 8 bits, and the various HDR formats seem to be 10 or 12 bits. You would need something that could output the higher bit depth to the TV, probably something that supports HDMI 1.4 or 2.0, depending on what the TV's HDR format is. Though depending on the TV, you might be able to play a slideshow from a flash drive. In terms f formats that work on both an HDR display an dan sRGB one, 16-bit TIFF would display on both, though possibly there could be potential optimizations to get the best results depending on whether yo are using an sRGB monitor or an HDR display.

The photo has either LCD glare or lens flare (added?), so I am not sure it is the best image necessarily if they are trying to (mis-)represent the camera's capabilities.
