Thank you Frederic. Here's a squirrel for old Rupert and yes more birds, a wood thrush singing and a phoebe with mixed surroundings. I sorta like the in focus leaves on the left combined with the bokeh around the bird.

I must say that I did not think too much of this photo and wondered why you posted it until I looked at it on your flickr site. Wow, that is a really cool shot there Frederic.

Welcome to this fine thread, a vast collection of various outstanding photographers. I really like the composition of your photo and doubt that the color version would look near as good.

Eric, super nice shots especially the first one. Now that you mention bugs and Frederic, I must say he certainly does a good job of bugging me with his moon shots. Perhaps he was a bug in his last life time...:hmm:
For these red orange colored flowers I wish that a painted lady would have made a visit rather than the yellow swallow tail. Then maybe my photos would have been almost as cool as yours.

First two shots of the female and male were at a distance of roughly 30 meters so required an extreme crop. Then the male landed in an apple tree about 10 meters away. They are a pretty bird and not very spooky but it seems that I am not usually in the right spot at the right time to get half decent photos of them. This time I got lucky.

On a walk about the other day I spotted a small flock of cedar waxwings at a nice distance of about 50 or 60 feet, roughly 20 meters or so. Had ideal conditions. These birds look like they have fur rather than feathers.

Was fortunate to have good lighting for each of these shots. Male cardinal in the late evening; cedar waxwing and eastern bluebird mid day. For sure my next post will be a different subject...:hmm:

A limb from a scotch pine is blocking parts of the doe, they were about 90 meters from me in a shady area. But the shots still came out fairly good. The mom was not very happy about me watching them so as soon as the youngster finished feeding they headed to the woods. I was happy to at least get to see them and get a couple of shots.

Found humming birds in the blue berry patch just after a light rain. Kinda neat watching them drying off and then feeding.

Just as with the cedar waxwings at dadipentak's I had a small flock stop over for about 3 minutes and they stayed a good distance from me.
But I had fun with a homing bird in the blue berry patch.

Well nothing fancy, certainly no cool soligor swirls. Man, now that I think about it, that might be kinda neat to take soligor bird shots. :(hmm, guess I need a soligor lens to do that, well maybe some day:)

Here is a white-crowned sparrow; rose-breasted grosbeak make; rose-breasted grosbeak female; and a red belly woodpecker female. With the shot of the rose-breasted grosbeak female the tree in the background was so far back that it created a green screen, which I thought looked sorta nice or at least different.
Best Regards, Bob

You might call that a "One Shot" but by the looks of all those holes I'd say it's been shot far more than once. I have to admit though, nice capture and great definition...:hmm:...did I really just say that

A white-crowned sparrow; tufted titmouse; and a baltimore oriole. My local flock of evening grosbeaks is down to 2 males and 4 females as near as I can figure. When the orioles came in addition to the rose-breasted grosbeaks, blue jays and black birds it got crowded enough that 6 of the evening grosbeaks left. Really curious to see how long they stay.

Frederic the photo of the Pink Fingers is super superb, I really like it. That is the sorta shots I see in my minds eye and hope to capture. Guess I'll have to start practicing but doubt I could match that photo.

Thank you Norm for questioning that, but I am certain it is a female oriole. Actually I have a bunch more shots of them and a couple fair shots of the female finch. The finch have moved on, my summer resident ones have not arrived yet. Also, the silly evening grosbeaks are still here. Have 6 pairs and they seem content being around the rose-breasted grosbeaks. I would think that it is nesting time. Perhaps I will get some cross breads...
Best Regards, Bob
