I still have a DA 21 sitting in my drawer all by itself. Bit of a shame really, it's a damn nice lens, but the interest just isn't there for selling it.

Very jealous Pete! I've never had the fortune to see AB663 in person!

Beautiful shot too, I've found that depending on the light NZR's old gloss black with brass can be damned hard to expose for!

I have already, I picked up a good deal on a D7000 - the $500 - 600 to buy a new D7100 instead was a bit more than I was prepared to spring for!

So my great sell-out is nearly complete, but I've still got the 21 and 70 limited left. I haven't been very successful in selling them to date, the interest just doesn't seem to be there.

It's actually here now! But I got a tidy deal on a clearanced D7000, and don't really need the enhanced autofocus, so the D7100 doesn't bring much to the table to justify the extra ~$500 it would have cost me. And I think maybe I'd have needed to upgrade lightroom too?

Not true! I just bought two of those yesterday! It's just their site search sucks. Navigate by brand instead

Will do, but it's impossible to disable dark frame subtraction on a K20, which you might find less than ideal.

I'm glad you're enjoying the K10 though!

I've gone through the claim process, now I just get to dispatch it to Christchurch and probably never hear of it again :p
Honestly, I'm kind of intruiged to see whether they *can* fix it (due to lack of parts, or whatever reason)

Jokes aside, if it comes back, I'll probably get rid of it straight away, because I now lack anything long to use on it - I might pick up a second Nikon body 'for my wife' (if you know what I mean!)

As a result of the great sell out of 2013, I've managed to put together enough to buy the Nikon kit I wanted for my trip. I've now got a D7000, 18-105, 35 f1.8 and 70-300.

I'm not really experienced enough with it to compare it to a Pentax yet, but it's interesting that in the hand it feels remarkably similar to a K10/20. The grip is actually slightly more comfortable for me (I'm not a tall man and have quite small hands). Ergonomics wise, it feels like a bit of a mixed bag - some things are done better than a Pentax, and some worse - that may just be because I haven't found out how to work them on the Nikon yet. I've definitely had to spend more time in the manual - the Pentax's features 'feel' more intuitive, but then again I do know them very well.

Coming from a K20, but more recently a K10, the high ISO performance is obviously amazing (obviously also true of a K-5). I think I'd be mostly comfortable using 6400 pretty regularly, but it's how clean 1600 is which really amazes me.

I'll have a bit more to say after I've had a chance to use it a bit more!

If any of you guys were short of storage, Noel leeming is selling Sandisk Ultra SDHC cards at a pretty stunning price - 8GB for $19, 16GB for $35. They're not the incredibly fast ones, but they are class 10.

Not normally my choice of shop for photographic gear anything, but sometimes they surprise!

My pleasure, I hope you enjoy it. I originally picked it up as a sort of secondary kit lens, for when I didn't want to lug the 16-50 around, and it's certainly pretty good for that role, surprisingly good actually, even the macro end as you demonstrated with the lovely thistle picture. On the other hand, I'm not entirely sure about the UV filter which was on it - I'd suggest you make your own mind up on that.

The great sell-out of 2013 is nearly over - ironically I've been left with the two lenses I really didn't want to part with - the 21 and 70 limiteds.
And the greatest irony of all - shopping for the Nikon gear made me go back to check my receipt for my (broken) K20 one more time.... and wouldn't you know it, I bought a warranty extension to 5 years... and it still has part of a year to run. So this could get interesting...

This is actually my second wave - I sold a bunch of older lenses and some film cameras last year.

Thanks Ross! I'm really looking forward to it - won't be until August though, so hopefully I have enough time to shop around!

Thanks Ross. It was a bit of a depressing experience inspecting them all closely as I photographed them for listing. The limiteds in particular really are so beautifully made.

The logic is basically that I am selling this lot to finance some appropriate gear for an uncoming trip to Africa, also, as you see, I simply have more lenses than is really sensible, or I can readily use. I must admit I'll really miss the limited trio though!

Also, I got married in the past year, and my new wife is a.... Canon user (she's really very lovely though!). So we agreed to meet in the middle and standardise on a third brand.

Believe it or not, I only own one piece of FF glass now, and it's an old F series kit lens (35-70). Decent for what it is! It'd be years before I could afford a full frame kit though!

None taken! It's not actually a camera body issue, it's a system issue. Assuming I kept the Pentax, I need a long telephoto for the trip - the choices are basically 55-300 or 60-250. The 60-250 would surely be the equivalent of at least $2,000 USD, and that's simply not money I have. With many of the other systems, there are various options in the middle in terms of cost / quality. Aside from that, I find myself messing around with flashes these days, and by some accounts that's a definite weakness of the K-5, perhaps even moreso than the older Pentax bodies.

Haha my wife would absolutely murder me if I bought a D700. Honestly, if it were body alone, the K-5 would win. It's slightly more comfortable (I have small hands), the ergonomics are slightly better, the various Pentax specific handling features are great as ever. You're right, it's just better (AF aside, and possibly metering - hard to tell in a shop). Part of the truth is that I'm weary of having to parallel import or trademe everything, of having to weather the risk of anything breaking, or paying insane prices. I'd also like to be able to support my local camera store, who are great. Local support aside, there are two things I find particularly attractive about the Nikon system - the flashes, and the price / quality ratio of the wide angles (and I won't even be buying one of those for a while!).

In reality, this is actually part of a bit of a rationalisation for me - I've got far more gear that I need, or regularly use. It's entirely possible that one day I'll sell the Nikon gear and move back to Pentax, who knows. It's a great system, I love it, particularly the limiteds - I will miss the 21 and 70. I will not miss IRL, although the less said about that the better.

Need to raise the funds yet, but I'm planning on a D7000 with the 18-105 kit, 35mm f1.8 and a SB700.
I need to save for a decent telephoto as well, as I'm likely going to Africa in August - the range of options is so mind boggling though!

Well gentlemen, the sad day has come for me to make a similar trip to the one Arpe made, albeit for slightly different reasons.

If any of you are looking for a 21, 40, 70 ltd, 16-50, 540 flash, or a K10, drop me a PM. The flash in particular, I can't imagine would go for much on TM, and I'd rather "keep things in the family" as it were if possible. Everything is in excellent condition, except the K10 which has a few bumps and scratches.

Creative seller on TM: PENTAX MZ-7 | Trade Me

Take a close look at the category, then re-read their description.

Also, Transit, are you looking for a K10? If you're seriously looking, aside from idle deal-hunting, shoot me a PM.

Ironically enough, I've found that when I'm travelling is when I use it the least! It's just so damn big that it's uncomfortable to carry for extended periods of time. Plus, I've found people find the size of the front element a little intimidating.

Plus, not being able to use the built in flash for a touch of fill gets quite annoying. I find these days I'd rather play around with the 21 or 40 limiteds. Besides, if I sell it, that's most of a K-5....

Or 50% of the current NZ retail!
Heck, at that price it's getting alarmingly close to buying a K-5...
Food for thought, thanks Pete!
