Lightroom 3 - Anybody Have it?

To me LR3 is a bit faster than LR2 (I timed exports) and also a bit easier on memory - 2-300 MB for LR3 vs 3-400 MB with LR2 on average; highest ever was about 600 MB with LR2.
I don't know why people complain about LR for eating a lot of memory. I could do quite well with 1GB on XP for LR. It's not HDD dependent either - again my experience. The only thing it seems to be hungry for is processing power - and a reason for me to want to upgrade my CPU. By the way, I think LR is slow.
My opinions are based on working K10D PEFs with an (old by now) AMD X2 4600 and 2 GB of RAM.

I have a 77mm Kenko Pro1d (same as Hoya) slim CPL. It is coated so it's much better with reflections then 2 other non-coated UV filters I have. But it's also a major PIA to clean compared to those 2.

I'm in the market for a new 67mm CPL now. I'd like to spend less this time around...
@Ecaterin - are those Marumi filters coated?

I've had terrible bad luck with freecomander. I went trough several clean OS installs before I realised it was responsible for ruining explorer.
And it's not like the real thing, I prefer total commander.

Slikypix=Pentax Digital Camera Utility 4?

It uses the Silkypix engine, not sure which one. And it's stripped down compared to Silkypix. The interface is better on Silkypix, and it does more things. Download the trial.

How to compare AMD and Intel chips?

By looking at that chart I'd say that CPU cache isn't that important (at least for Photoshop). So the best bang for the buck would be to get - let's say an Athlon II instead of a Phenom II. I know that cache matters for games, but that's probably it.

One thing I noticed about C1 is that it doesn't automatically take care of hot pixels, while LR does. Am I wrong?

I don't have any SDM lenses, but have you guys tried covering the SDM contacts on the lenses in hope of getting screw drive AF to work?

My "perfect" solution to hiking with camera gear

My question is: how do you get to the camera gear (which is at the bottom of the pack) when you're hiking?
I'd hate to get all my stuff in the dust everytime I want to get the camera out of the pack.

I'd prefer they come out with a DA 28 2.4 or DA 24 2.8.

Which is your best kit for hiking?

When just hiking, I can bring just one lens (da 16-45, sigma 24-60, m50 1.4) or more and add the da 50-200 and raynox 250 too (I don't think I'll be taking this one along anymore, it's too hard to use outdoors). I also take the AF360 flash usually. I haven't found the weight an issue when hiking, because I'm used to the heavier loads of backpacking.

Now the off topic :)
When backpacking I carried a wide zoom (18-55 in the past, then 24-60, now 16-45) and the da 50-200 in a sock or the AF360 pouch in my pack. I've carried the m50 1.4 and the flash too many times without using them (although I could have used the flash many times, but it's just impractical for "efficient" backpacking) so they'll be staying home from now on.
But, if I could get a free Oly ep1 with the 17mm pancake, I'll leave all my Pentax gear behind and take only that when backpacking.

I'd say vignetting depends on the size of the front element.
While my DA 16-45, DA 50-200, M 50 f1.4 don't vignette, my Sigma 24-60 with it's large front element does vignette, getting worse the wider I get (and badly, like a circular fisheye at 24 mm). This with a DCR250 on digital, it could get worse on film, depending on the lens.

What 77mm hood for DA 16-45 + 67-77 + 77mm CPL

I have to admit I wouldn't have thought of that, it's not a bad idea. It's going to take a lot more than 15 minutes with sandpaper though, but it is the solution if all else fails, thanks!

What 77mm hood for DA 16-45 + 67-77 + 77mm CPL

After my very nasty experience of removing the CPL (a kenko pro1d slim) from the already hooded DA 16-45, I started using the lens without the hood when I needed the CPL. It sometimes flares or looses contrast this way, so I started thinking about a screw-in hood for the polarizer - it has to be the non-flower/petal shaped type. Of course, there's a 67-77 step-up ring involved in all of this.
Did any of you guys run into a similar situation? Have you found a hood that doesn't cause vigneting, preferably metal? I haven't tried anything yet, but I have a feeling that that the regular straight hoods might cause vigneting...
Thanks!

Sorry about the camera and lens...
How did you fish them out? Did you jump right in? Did you find them washed ashore downstream? It's kind of creepy, but I'm curious.
You can take this as a bump :)

I agree. I thought even the K10 shouldn't have been compared to the D80, but with the K-7 there is a big gap compared to the D90.

Now for a personal opinion - the K-7 doesn't really bring anything that I'd really want (great OVF, high sync and aperture coupler) and most of the improvements (like FPS) don't really affect my shooting - but they can't hurt, and I'm happy for the people that wanted them and most of all - happy that again, there is a decent VF in a smallish Pentax body. I like the new proportion of the grip/body height - I always felt the k100 and k10 could have had taller grips.
I can't wait for people to actually start using the K-7 and watch their delight or hatred - I wonder what Achille's heel (aka VPN) will they find...

Considering that you loose 1.5-2 stops with a circ polarizer, and the lens is f5.6, it is bad enough already, you don't need to worry about the rotating front element.

1. Huge viewfinder with 1.2x magnification, long eye relief and a longer eyecup to block the sun

2. Flash sync speed of 1/500s

3. The missing aperture coupler
