Multiple Exposure Mode in RAW?

I've been playing around with the Multiple Exposure mode with the GR and was a little disappointed to see that the file output was in JPEG format. Am I missing something in the settings?

My k5 provides RAW files from Multiple Exposures so I just assumed the GR would too?

You actually can turn off the notifications, it just isn't very obvious. If I remember correctly, it's in the system setting > app manager > Flickr.

Instagram is hard to ignore. Many of my friends/family are on it, so I cross post many of my photos there. It's pretty basic though and leaves a lot to be desired. I like the Tumblr interface and blog style for sharing photos but I don't like the reblog feature. Someone needs to take all the best features of Flickr/Instagram/500px/Tumblr and roll them into the ultimate photo sharing site. :D

Voted!

I really wanted to like 500px, but quickly got sick of the comments. "V+F, look a my photos!" Seems so ingenue. Flickr isn't that much better, but at least the people commenting on my photos aren't begging for views. I wish these communities would utilize a downvote button. I've been on Flickr for ages, but it seems to be dying a slow death. Mediocre improvements and features that make me thinks they aren't listening to their user base at all.

Considering GR_Advice Needed

I finally pulled the trigger on the GR in August, after months of mulling over the x100s and the GR. My main reasons for choosing the GR over the X100s where the size and the price. I wanted something truly compact. I have not been disappointed in the least, in fact I've barely used my K5 since. It's the perfect "carry everywhere" camera and fits nicely in my coat pocket or purse. I find that I actually don't miss the viewfinder as much as I thought I would.

To address some of your concerns:
1) Yes, the auto focus in low light is a little slow. I find the auto focus assist light helps considerably.
2) I have not noticed any dust issues with my GR.
3) The layout of the buttons doesn't bother me. Too some getting used to, but overall I'm comfortable with it and can't think of anything I would change. However, I'm a girl with small-ish hands.
4) I'm fairly happy with the colours out of the camera. Especially b&w. However with that said, I usually shoot raw and tweak in lightroom.

Overall the camera isn't perfect but I love it and do not hesitate to recommend it.

Ricoh GR for backpacking?

I spend a month in SE Asia a couple of years ago, I took my K5 with 16-45mm, 55-300mm and my 40mm. I carried it all in a shoulder bag. It was a little cumbersome but manageable. The 55-300mm didn't see a lot of use but if I was to do it again, I'd still bring it coupled with my new Ricoh GR. I love photographing animals, so personally for me the 55-300 is necessary for that extra reach.

If I'm travelling somewhere where I know I won't get the opportunity to shoot a lot of wildlife, I will only take my GR. While having the extra reach is nice, carrying only the GR means a load of your shoulder and mind. You don't have to worry about lugging around a camera bag with a bunch of gear.

You might also want to look into a GPS logger like the iGotU GT-600. I bought one for my trip to SE Asia and really came in handy when I was naming/geo-tagging my photos when I got home.

Yes. First film, now digital. I bought my first 4mp digital camera for $900! Cameras, lenses, bags, cases, cards, tripods, straps, darkroom, lightroom, filters, film, accessories accessories accessories... I wouldn't dare tally it all up :D

The photo you describe sounds like it would look really nice on metallic paper. I've never heard of glass killing the effect, but I've also never displayed metallic prints behind it. Maybe a museum glass or some sort of anti-glare would help?

I've printed some detailed landscape images on canvas that also turned out great. Some canvas is more textured than others.

It might be worth getting image proofs on each media, then you can decide which one you like best.

It's an interesting design, not sure if I like it but will have to hold it before judging. I've been lusting over a fix lens compact-ish APS-C camera for awhile now.

The only photo-related gift I received was an Artisan & Artist (E25r) camera strap. I also got some cash that I'm thinking of putting towards a new lens or a photo trip.

To fully understand your camera inside and out, I'd suggest reading through your manual and putting all that information into practice. The basics are pretty easy to figure out on your own, but there are a lot of different custom settings and features such as multiple exposures, the electronic level, histograms, bracketing, Anti-Aliasing Filter, video, focus lock, and so much more.

Travel lenses for K-01

Within the last year I've travelled to Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar and Mexico. I brought my 16-45mm, 55-300 and 40mm XS, this makes for a fairly compact kit that covers a range of scenarios. While trekking around the temples, the 16-45mm was almost always on my camera. For street photography, the 40mm is discrete and snappy. When shooting monkeys in the jungle, the 55-300 allowed me to get some fantastic close-ups. I carried everything along with the k5 in my shoulder bag and didn't find it too cumbersome.

Personally, if I had both the k-01 and the k-3, I'd sell the k-01. I'd use the extra cash to fund a new lens (I've got my eye on the 21mm) or to help fund my next vacation :)

I've never gone to Vistek for anything Pentax related but my experience with their customer service has not been good - I won't go back. From what I've heard from other customers, this seems to be the norm with them. Robinson's Camera on 9th also carries Pentax, I've only ever gone in there for film development but the customer service is great. :)

I have a London Drugs by my house that also sells Pentax. Although, I like to support from the smaller local shops like the Camera Store or Robinson's :)

I gave up trying to find the perfect camera bag. I was looking for something stylish yet functional but it seemed like these bags came at a hefty price. I ended up buying a cheap insert from Amazon, it's perfect. I can use it with any bag that fits. I found a great faux leather shoulder bag with a multiple pockets which makes for my perfect camera bag and for under $50. :)

Using a shoulder bag allows me to easily swap lenses over an open bag, works well for me. I've never tried a sling.

Here is the insert I use: insert by Camaroo

It fits my k5 w/16-40 + 55-300. The flap is detachable, which I usually add to the bottom for extra padding.

Here in the Calgary area we are blessed to multiple retailers who carry Pentax equipment. I know exactly which store you are referring to. The Camera Store is simply the best in the city, I've always had a great experience with them.

Adobe Creative Suite Goes Subscription Only

I knew it was going to come to this, I didn't think it would happen so soon.

As a creative professional, I've been using the Creative Cloud suite for just under a year now, and am pretty happy with it. It gives me access to all the software I need at an affordable cost for my business.... but I don't see how this is an economical route for a hobbyist. I certainly wouldn't be using it.

Currently the offering is the entire CS suite for $50, but not everyone needs all that software. I'd like to see bundles, ie: "photography bundle" with PS/LR for $15. I think the subscription for PS alone is around $20, but considering the cost of the entire suite, I think this should be lowered. Still.... creative professionals is one thing, I just don't see this business model working with hobbyists.

I've seen Adobe go back on their word before. Remember the upgrade policy? If you don't like it, TELL THEM!

Seriously though, if it is really going to cause bad blood then drop it. If you don't care about the drama then go ahead a post it and credit her nicely. I'm no lawyer so who knows how this would go in court, but I doubt it'll ever get there (although weirder things have happened). Your call. What does your instructor say about this?

A Question about Giving Credit

Personally, it sounds like she is being unreasonable. You set up the image, and all she did was push the button then I would think credit would go to you - but this is not always the case in copyright law, which I am no expert in.

I would drop it, go out and reshoot without her. Give her the unedited copy or just delete them.

this guy hits the nail on the head. I'm sure its been posted before but it's a good rant for those that missed it. I'm not sure what the heck Pentax USA is thinking but this isn't the right route; especially considering they just RAISED prices not to long ago.

A couple of years ago, I was buying out of the US because even with shipping it was cheaper. Now it seems to have reversed, in Canada - all the lenses I checked were cheaper locally.

Just wait until they tweak that deblurring tool and it reaches the public - then we'll really be in trouble ;)

We have the knowledge and technology at our fingertips, it's a lot easier to learn photography than it was 20 years ago. The only thing that bothers me is the comment "oh that's a beautiful photograph, you must have a good camera". In my option, the camera is just a tool, and how you use it makes all the difference. For me I like to strive to create work that captures something more than my technical skill.

Oh and btw, the battery on the WG2 is bad, I hear the WG3 is worse.

Printing is a whole nother beast. This is where I am blessed. I co-founded a fine art print studio years ago, and my boyfriend still runs it. While my print skills are basic, I have access to a pro who knows the ins and outs of printing.
