DA*60-250 Out of stock?

The anti-Pentax vitriol is astounding.

No thread is too benign to avoid infection with anti-Pentax bile.

I'm completely tired of constantly having to deal with this anti-Pentax negativity.

I can live with Pentax. DA*60-250 is a fantastic lens and has been a great performer for me. This endless bashing is exactly what turns people off of this site.
It's certainly turned me off.

See y'all when I see ya I guess. I'll return when I've managed to wash the bad taste out of my mouth, if I don't find anything better. Better photographers than me avoid this place.

They are anti-Pentax. Years ago they actually banned Benjikan for saying he chose Pentax over Canon. They claimed he was paid Pentax plant. They have along history of promoting anti-Pentax rhetoric and their writers have engaged in it themselves.

So essentially you're asking why a Leopard doesn't change it's spots.

That has to be totally frustrating.... I assume you've done all the normal things, like cleaning contacts etc.

But given the same circumstance, would taking a couple of 4 shot bursts of everything not have given you a few photos of each set? I vaguely remember once experiencing a similar type of behaviour, but mine never got to be very bad and I can't remember which lens was involved. Sounds like this might be something to keep an eye on. Thanks for the heads up. I think I'll take my 18-135 out for a few more days. I took it out yesterday and shot 40 images, and all were good exposures.

I've had mine close to 10 years now, and this is the first I've heard of something like this. But that over exposure thing has definitely happened to me. I just don't remember the details. Mine like yours first experiences were a shot every now and then, and it has not happened recently.

Legendary is good.
It's already a legend around here. It's the first lens Tess has ever agreed we should own (if we could afford it) from the preliminary images. They've all been impressive.

Well thanks for that.
It has never been established that the DA*60-250 has a higher failure rate than industry standards would predict.

Is it really necessary for every discussion of every lens to have a bunch of people saying "mine broke" and possibly a number of others saying "I'v had mine 10 years and it's still working fine?"

Does that really need to come up every time a lens is mentioned?

It is my suggestion, that it doesn't.

I have absolutely no problem with people being warned off inferior product, once it has been reliably established they are an inferior product.
However since all lenses will eventually fail, I'd suggest the possibility of a lens failure should be taken as given. For every lens. If there are specific lenses that are more prone to failure then warnings are appropriate. And people start threads on those lenses. But unless there is evidence that a specific lens has an unusually high failure rate it's assumed information, that doesn't need to be repeated every time a lens is mentioned.

We've had failures of DFA*50s, DFA*70-200s, you can almost predict the number of failures will increase with the popularity of the lens and the number of copies sold. But, there absolutely no sense in dwelling on that information after maybe a generic statement that any lens may fail where appropriate. We really don't have to break it down in to reports of every lens failure In every thread.

My own advice is test every new lens you buy, put it through it's paces, if it's not 100% acceptable return it. That goes for every lens. But there is no evidence the DA*60-250 should be singled out or needs special attention, at least not that I'm aware of.

You mention a lens on this place and everyone tells you what's wrong with one they owned. That's not what the thread is about. Meanwhile the thousands of users out taking images with the lens are too busy to comment.

If we open a special forum for those who have had issues can you complain over there and leave the rest of us alone?

We're posting for people who might be interested in a DA*60-250. Not providing space for people to relate their negative experiences. Those are cross purposes. You're actually working against the purpose of the thread.

Everyone has heard all the stories. Anyone freaked out by SDM has had their say and time to vent. People are over it.
People who're freaked out have moved on, opeople a little less squeamish have stuck it out. There's not much they can learn from each other.

Or are you just going to trash the DA*60-250 every time it's mentioned forever?

How about this, start tracking the DA* 60-250 images posted in the various threads, and just put a little note in the thread pointing out to people that your lens didn't work and you've given up on it. I'm sure we'll all be just as thrilled with that as what you do now. That will wear you out pretty quick.

Interesting when I peek in on what is coming from users I've ignored, and they are complaining about trolls. I guess one person's knowledgeable user is another person's troll.

Again you are the only one that wants to discuss the opinion that KAF4 cameras might not be around in 20 years. The fact that something happened to Leica in the past, in no way predicts that something like that will happen to Pentax in the future. I feel for you, but, it's not something worth worrying about.

Things happen. Circumstances are different in every case. And the lenses Pentax is coming out with now are leaving Leica in the dust. This is not likely to be a much worried about thing in the future, well by anyone but you. Between better is available and the low market share of Leica, it's a real odd ball perspective.

It is however an interesting twist on the old observation, "A Pentax user is a person who buys a $2000 camera to put a $50 lens on." You certainly blew that one up.

Funny how we can look at the same charts and come to different conclusions.

The way I use these charts is I look at how the lens performs against the graph divisions.

The 70-210 (at 200mm) is in the top quadrant, well never. This is not a direct comparison as they are different tests done by different people on different MP sensor and formats. SO this is one small clue and not a good one. The only test I really care about is bdery's where images are provided , the same sensor is used etc.

So in essence, I'm looking at charts that might help explain those results, not basing my opinion on the charts.

IN the 60-250 the lens is in the top division of the charts ƒ5.6 and ƒ8 centre and edge throughout it's entire range.

The 60-250 is what it is. I would never expect someone who previously rejected it to change their tune just because of something I posted. If you don't like the lens, you don't like the lens, for whatever reason.

On the other hand, for those of us who like the lens, we also aren't going to change our preference either. It just doesn't offer much, except focusing speed. Looking through bdery's test images, and comparisons there's nothing there to impress anyone who's comfortable with the speed of AF. I suspect it's case of making insignificant differences with the 60-250 having more range.

Once your used to the 60-250, any 70-210 is going to feel limited. 70 vs 60 meters severally restricts possible landscape use, and in the long end, 250mm will out perform 210mm and cropping.

To me, the 70-210 is a lens that was picked up because it was available. Looking at bdery's chart comparisons, it definitely isn't a whole lot better optically, it's a saw off, but it definitely has less range. It's all about what you value.

Personally I tend to gravitate towards fewer lens changes. The 60-250 is a very good compromise between it's 4:1 zoom and IQ. It's pushed the limits for what can be done. At 70-210 or 3:1, ya, almost anyone can build an excellent 3:1, zoom.

Bottom line, if you are fine with the AF speed you'd be missing something unique to Pentax going with a 70-210. But the 70-210 is necessary for those who need AF speed. AT 10 years old the 60-250 is definitely showing it's age. It was designed for much slower AF systems.

I remember setting up my camera at an angle so when he was at a certain "flower" on the feeder, I could separate them in the frame and crop the flower out. Of course the four I put in Flickr aren't like that, there like yours. D:

But honest, it can be done.

I only have 5000 images on Flickr, only 5 are humming birds and somehow, and four are like yours.

I did get lucky one day... this guy went to the flowers instead of the feet and I manages to lock focus.

No one is sure of anything that will happen in 20 years. I'm not sure how that's relevant? Maybe you can explain it.

Based on my last 10 years here, so half of 20 years, an awful lot of people who predicted the demise of Pentax look more and more stupid every year. I'd be looking to avoid those dudes, there's not a chance I believe what they say. You're listening to the wrong people.

That would only make sense if MILC users would buy new lenses, which they won't.

Pentax needs to be concerned about their bottom line. Making life easier for MILC users is a recipe for disaster if all they buy is archaic gear. I'd hope they'd put in a poison pill of some sort.

I have always recommended buying the body that supports your lenses. This whole taking lenses from one brand and using them on another is just another marketing abomination. Back when there was no Pentax FF it was barely tolerable. Now it's just anti-Pentax behaviour.

Every real Pentax user would benefit if we could somehow shut down this practice.

I plan to buy only KAF4 lenses in the future. I completely understand the reasoning and like the technology.

Your insistence that the only lenses Pentax should make would be ones that can be hijacked by MILC manufacturers is just weird.

How many MILC manufacturers are making lenses that can be used on Pentaxes?

I'm going the other way. Make people who use MILC gear use MILC lenses.
Too bad they can't make every lens unusable on MILC cameras.

The sooner we get MILC users out of the Pentax market the better for Pentax users. They contribute nothing to the brand.

I find a lot of CA is OK, because it looks natural. I remember a sunset on our local campsite a few years ago, where if I looked carefully with my eye I could see purple fringing and purple outline across the whole tree line. This is something you have to train your eye to see, and I have to ask "why do photographers do that?" The issue is not no CA, that's not natural, the issue is appropriate. Does it look out of place?

The more amateurish sites, like DPR try and make an issue out of it. Like if it exists at all it's bad.
The most perfect human eye is used to dealing with CA. Our eyes aren't perfect.

The issue shouldn't be no CA because all CA is bad, the issue should be whether or not you like the way the lens handles CA.

Tamron 28-200mm F2.8-5.6 RXD Lens to be Announced on June 11, 2020 – Camera News at Cameraegg

Pentax licensed the last Tamron 28-200, I own one (terrible lens though nice rendering scaled to half size.)

If this coming one is any good at all, who knows?

They could license it to Pentax if it's any good.
