Ok, so when pros make music videos they don't use the incamera sound at all. It’s an inferior in all brands to an external recorder. Remember to use a clapper board or even clap your own hands or two drumsticks together so you can sync the sound and video files together in your editing software. :)

Is the D FA* 50/1.4 a Pentax/ Ricoh design or a Tokina design?

Baffling stuff from AfterPentax.

The designer of the DFA*50 is a Pentax veteran named Minoru Murayama, been with them since 2003, has designed everything from endoscopes to lasers to the DFA 150-450.

Ricoh public DFA*50/1.4 patent in Japan - PentaxForums.com

If a thread ban's been placed, great. But that bloke has successfully poisoned the thread, of course, that's searchable on Google by anyone wanting to know about the issue. Ignoring (suggested by some members) doesn't solve that.

Straight out FUD. He's been careful to say 'it could be, prove otherwise', but that is a classic troll's argument, reversing the burden of proof. You can't prove a negative, it's up to them to provide evidence for their theory.

Good rant, Parallax. I agree with you on that point and can't offer a suggestion for that other than what's already done by the Mod Crew.

But by closing off News and Rumours to all but Site Supporters, I think it'd massively cut down on both people bashing and brand bashing. One leads to the other, I reckon.

I'm glad I didn't see the abuse towards Stephen, I'm friends with him these days on Facebook.

I'm a strobe kinda guy. Wasn't my setup, so I just went along with it. No room for negativity or putdowns technically or creatively or any reason, actually, in a portrait shoot, especially art nude. A photographer, model or HMUA who can't play nice with others should just pack up their bags and leave, because it's all about collaboration and trust. I wasn't going to say, 'Hey, your gear's okay, but ...' :)

The nipples have of course been obscured for social media. I have put this on Facebook. Even remembered not to do it on my personal feed. I don't want arguments with my aunties, work colleagues, etc. You know how it is. :D

It's the one and the same division, Guinnessman. They are releasing a K-new, they made the acclaimed GR III, the stunning DFA* 50, they do a high tech double 1" sensor Theta for industry, etc. They have a portfolio that's just right for these troubled times. Nikon and Olympus sell more cameras and lenses, but guess what? They have the wrong lineups, they're going broke, they make losses.

?

Olympus culture is very different. Aggressive accounting that was a national scandal. Going their own way with a 43 digital format rather than APS-C or FF. Ditching that entirely as a mistake and going with cute m43. Trying cheap m43, small m43, big m43, expensive m43. They advertised heavily, being darlings of DPR and Northrup and the Youtubers, and paying pros to switch brands and say 'I switched from Canon to Olympus because' ... all the usual crap Ricoh refuses to get trapped in.

Olympus really did desperately try to be trendy rather than stay in the black. At the end of the day, that's all a corporation wants. Not clicks on Youtube, or a thumbs up from Jarrod Polin or whoever. :)

Let's give credit to the Ricoh executives. They saw all this coming, closed down plants and got the tax breaks from the writeoffs, killed advertising, pandering to bricks and mortar retail stores, and went to a trickle of quality, expensive releases. Nikon and Olympus both sell more cameras than little Pentax, but they can't make a profit.

You know what? It's almost as if those executives with all their data know better than us amateurs sitting on our keyboards or making YouTube videos, pretending we understand the camera business. ;)

The last thing a big company should do in a crash is to pay for steering your company towards a completely new mount and lenses and expect growth to cover it. The Canon CEO said mirrorless proved to be a failure in that regard, for them, each MILC simply stole a sale from a DSLR, it did not grow the market or even arrest its slide.

With an activist investor, look out Sony. They know the profits are not there anymore, it's a crowded market, cameras have just been put into a separate structure that can be sold off.

Pretty sly, isn't it? That 'niche' is still fifty percent, after all these years of predictions. Maybe some of it does come Pentax's way, mainly through older photographers.

Trying to court youngsters by ditching all DSLRs and going all-in on mirrorless? Why, isn't that what Olympus did? :)

I think even if a sneaky troll or a bitter ex-Pentaxian wants to pay their money, they'll still be subject to the normal Forum rules, let 'em, at least they're contributing to the running of the place for their weird, little sociopathic exercise. :)

The workload on moderators would drop. They're unpaid, and are busy enough dealing with new dummy accounts posting ads for Cialis or whatever, the last thing they want to do is respond to some outbreaking fire in a 'DFA*21 is not for me, Pentax is doomed' thread.

I think Nikon because it's big, with all the problems of a big business in a crashing market - expected to compete in all sectors, lots of employees, lots of advertising dollars spent, lots of new product releases requiring up front investment - whereas Leica is a niche brand, doing its own small volume thing. Perhaps a model for Pentax?

I have one. It's good stopped down, which is what landscapes are all about. Wide open, it's only 'sharp enough;, and it can be made to generate lots of purple CA.

But none of those old 85s are cheap. The normal secondhand prices are high compared to say, 50mm, or 28mm. It's almost better to save a little longer and pay some more for a second hand FA77 and get all of its benefits, including autofocus, IMHO. :)

The issue is not old versus new. It's how corrected spherical aberration is in a fast lens.

Lots of glass is the usual cure - a big, heavy, expensive lens like the DFA*50 and DFA*85 or Zeiss Otis.

Yeah, that's not my concern at all, the effect on me. It's the damage done to the thread, to the quality of information and discussion in the thread, often involving opinion without facts, and often deliberately so, that affects the forum as a whole. That poison stands for the public to see unless it's cleaned up.

That's the issue for me, 'ignoring' doesn't solve that.

And it is something that happens repeatedly in News and Rumours rather than elsewhere, from posters who have no genuine interest in the welfare of this community. They don't partake in the photos, the challenges that happen elsewhere, or help others with artistic or technical problems.

I'd have no problem with a rule that said you could not post or even comment in News and Rumours unless you were a paid up forum member, just like the For Sale threads.

It would be quality rather than quantity of posts, and 'Drive By' shootings would disappear :)

Certainly, the OP, Stephen, was bemused. He's a good bloke, owns his own advertising agency in Germany, great photographer himself, and the heart and soul of the Pentaxians Yearbook, a labour of love for which he can never be properly compensated. He simply posted pics he'd taken personally almost as a favour to members here who wanted to see samples other than the official ones released.

I can't see in this thread now anything negative towards his efforts, but I guess a cleanup was done that was as good as Harvey Keitel's in Pulp Fiction.

We have less outright trolls than ever before, as far as I can tell, but there's still a few of the Pentax is Doomed set who always have me thinking, it's not worth coming to this forum anymore.

Yes, I own that hub myself. So, no, it's not Nikon.

The hub can let you do it at different focal lengths or distances (four), but not apertures.

Fortunately, I didn't see the deleted posts, but I can report back from the Pentaxians Facebook group that they seem to have found the negativity almost traumatizing. Various members saying they once joined here but now don't bother coming or won't take part in discussions. It's embarrassing.

No. Only Pentax takes microadjustment seriously, there are entry level Canons and Nikons that don't permit the owner to do anything. Even a central adjustment is done by an authorized repairer, as I understand it.
