Just get one and send it to Eric for a full CLA (and foam replacement if it needs it). Things will run smoothly and if there's a small problem inside, you can get it fixed before putting the camera to good use.
I love mine. It was my old man's and it's very special to me. Never had any problems with it and it's an older 6x7 MLU.
Definitely get the MLU. And get some original silver oxide batteries.
Don't put too much thought into it, go out and shoot and enjoy it.

I use a Gossen Digiflash for those times you actually can and have the time to do incident light metering and for when I use manual flash.

I agree with the Rocket Blower. Such a great tool and lots of air vs. small and cheap ones.

A photographer for a national magazine was assigned to take pictures of a great forest fire. He was advised that a small plane would be waiting to fly him over the fire. The photographer arrived at the airstrip just an hour before sundown. Sure enough, a small Cessna airplane was waiting. He jumped in with his equipment and shouted, “Let’s go!” The tense man sitting in the pilot’s seat swung the plane into the wind and soon they were in the air, though flying erratically.

“Fly over the north side of the fire, ” said the photographer, “and make several low-level passes.”

“Why?” asked the nervous pilot.

“Because I’m going to take pictures!” yelled the photographer. “I’m a photographer, and photographers take pictures!”

The pilot replied, “You mean you’re not the flight instructor?”

Hoods & Lens Caps (for Hoods!) for a FA 77 & Lensbaby Velvet 56/1.6

:) well, that's another solution. Very good indeed if the front element is nowhere near as in this case, because tupperware lids aren't as rigid as these caps. I guess one would have to go to the store like a freak with all the lenses with their shades on and start to measure them out. :)

Some questions regarding buy/sell etiquette

May I suggest for the more experienced sellers to create a selling guide on the forum? Including some kind of troubleshooting, recommendations, what to expect in different situations, etc. I think it would be very useful for the uninitiated or occasional seller, and could help overcome some of the fears or doubts the seller could have. Including also auction sites. A thorough explanation and recounting of experiences I think would be very, very useful for anyone intending to sell.

I wouldn't mind trying it. Has anyone had it who can share their experience? I also wonder how different it is from the fermented or pickled (sorry if I'm mistaken) duck embryos that are eaten in the Philippines.
A friend of mine is currently in Norway and did try it, but he wouldn't stop swearing. I guess it tastes horribly, but I'm keen on trying weird things and have a taste for bitter foods. I've tried a few sorts of bugs, too. In tact, here in Colombia in two northern regions there's a delicacy called "hormiga culona" (which loosely translates fat bottom or big ass ant). I guess Timon and Pumbaa have been too big of an influence, lol. And eating the agave maggot at the end of a bottle of mezcal is always fun because of people's various reactions.

That's not common, nor normal for a new lens. Send it back and demand a new one. This one might have fallen during shipping and handling. Externally, it can be ok, but maybe the internal elements misaligned from a hard blow.

I think it's a wonderful foreground composition. Yes, with the milky way rising it's going to come into the frame perfectly. Did you manage to take the picture? Summer's almost over.
