Low noise benefit of FF vs APS-C equals ... zero

the point is, this is more like a rat race. of course they need to improve the FF as well if they want to retain that edge over the APS-C dslrs. it's part of marketing. but as far as feature improvement is concerned, the APS-C dslrs are capable of it and isn't handicapped in any way in that department.

645 lenses on k-mount experience

not recommended. why? because you won't be able to take full advantage of an Medium format lens' real capability and potential. plus you would need to find some adaptors that would enable the lens to fit, work and focus at infinity, plus it would be quite of a hassle or require a bit of work dealing with such converted lens. full-format m42 and K-mount lenses are an exception since they work fine on a K-mount cameras.

if you really want to use an MF lens, you have to buy an MF body.

as far as sensor cropping is concerned, sensor crop doesn't mean it would magnify or increase the focal range of a lens. it would merely cut out some portions of the FOV that have an appearance or equivalent value of a particular sensor size. in short, sensor cropping is based on FOV measurement, not focal range measurement.

that's why when you put a 50mm FF lens on an APS-C dlsr, it would say 75mm equivalent on a 35mm format.

*note: DA lenses are cropped the same way as FF lenses on an APS-C sensor. so don't think that a DA14 would still be 14mm. it would still be cropped. I just hate it when they always make a 35mm equivalent conversion and cause a lot of confusion. instead of putting DA14, they could just simply written or disclosed it as a 21mm since it works that way and doesnt work on a FF slr due to vignetting and lens design, and spare us from any misconceptions everytime.

I had the FA35. it's a great lens and I loved it. I never sold it til I found something better which is the 30/2 Samsung.too bad the lens cannot be adapted on a Pentax body. while it is true that the FA35 could suffer from CA, it does not with regards to purple fringing, atleast from my copy. although such CA is no longer an issue nowadays considering the advancement in post-process correction methods.

all I can say is the FA35 is not for those who are worried about budget and a limited use for it.

you have to be aware that most of the massacres that occurred in the U.S. involves the use of firearms. besides, don't cite examples that are NON- U.S. related and stick to the topic. I call it (expletive edited out) to even say that arming the security guard or principal would have prevented such massacres. massacres are done by surprise. so even arming your friendly neighborhood principal is pretty much useless when he gets shot from behind.

got the blue version K30.

1. K-5 build is better. K30 has better overall grip feel. also color is eye-catching for the K30.
2. K30 seems like the images are sharper compared to K-5,
3. AF is Faster. significantly high keeper rates compared to K-5.
4. focus peaking is a huge huge plus
5. shutter is more damp on the K-5, although K30 is not far behind.

it's a tough choice between the two cameras. one is certainly higher-end body and the other is better at operations. both cameras hold value in my opinion.

Pentax DA* 55mm 1.4 vs Sigma 50mm 1.4

I agree with Peter. eventhough you consider it as a joke, branding people as fanboys just because they prefer using another brand is quite unethical, especially if you try to find faults in a lens that owners don't mind at all. it is not a matter of being blind but rather a matter of compromising.

the Pentax for that matter is really slow, and I concur with Peter with a great extent of affirmation. the first time that I held a Pentax 55/1.4, the first thing I noticed with it is it's slow focus, and have trouble locking on a moving subject. it is silent alright, but slow. and I find that shortcoming of the lens more critical than a set of onion rings. now, can I accuse that Pentax 55 owners are fanboys because they want an underperforming slow-focusing lens?

don't worry, I'm not a Sigma fanboy. and I prefer Pentax lenses as much as possible. but I won't deny the fact that some Sigma lenses can do some real damage as well. plus they are cheaper and offer some focal lengths, and focusing performance that Pentax doesn't offer. of course, there are compromises.

I believe this is true. if LV was only available during those times, we might see a different reaction regarding LCD screens. I too was into the idea of having the option to look or compose on the screen as well compared to looking on the viewfinder. and that was more than a decade ago.

aside from what you already stated;

>the boxy build does seem make the camera more secure to hold.
>mirrorless would eliminate mirror slaps or camera shake that would make images seems soft due to being slightly off-focus.
>double shutter cycle is not present on the K-01 (which would make sharper and on-focus images).

I think this would appeal those who haven't bought the K-5 yet more than someone who owns the K-5. the price is the difference maker here. price the K-5 around $750 and we might still see a pretty close battle. although I would still choose the K-01. I have the K-7 btw, so I'm pretty much aware of what I'm gaining with the K-01.

great lenses so to speak. but before that, they still need to improve the M4/3 sensor inorder for these lenses to perform at their optimal capability.

I originally bid on an F50/1.7 on Ebay about more than 2 years ago. I lost on it for $135. saw an FA version two days later on eBay which has a BIN offer of $200. having learned my lesson, I bit on it rather than wait for the bid to end and on the losing end again. best $200 purchase I ever done since I haven't seen such lens on sale on such regularity.

FA35 Vs NX30 comparison Final

actually they were also considered in the whole 3 part series of this thread. cite image #1 full image at their respective FOV. image #2 and #3 a down-scaled version of the FA35 (100% crops on the NX30) and image #4 an up-scaled version of the NX30 (100% crops on the FA35) for matching purposes.

the reason behind why such images were adjusted at such similar crop resolution was inorder to give a fair comparison between images from both lenses. besides, the results would still have the same results no matter where you put it,whether you adjust the shooting distance for similar FOV which has already been covered and crops at their original resolution value which would make the FA35 look pathetic unless you sharpen and add more contrast to the FA35 during post-processing.

the point is, it depends on us whether we accept or reject what we actually see in these results. we can draw our own individual conclusion as well if we choose to, otherwise they could do their own testing if one believes that this is all an illusion. besides, I would be lying to myself and to other people if I don't give a well-deserved credit for the NX30's real performance. if there are still any doubts, I believe a quick trip to a camera store for a quick test on the NX30 would satisfy one's curiosity or a simple validation. as far as I can tell, there hasn't been any complaints regarding the lens but rather testimonies of how good it is. I had my doubts initially, but certainly I don't have one valid excuse to doubt it now. for myself, I'm just an extremely satisfied owner with no bias. ;)

FA35 Vs NX30 comparison part deux

ok guys, this is just an update or follow up on the test I did earlier.

this time I made it extremely 100% sure that no doubt about the focusing. focusing is done both MF and AF. MF is just for fine tuning and improvement ever so slightly that it would clearly see that the images aren't out of focus.

condition is set outdoors, with natural light at shutterspeed 1/500 on tripod (definitely no camera shake here), ISO 100 at f2. distance is just a lil bit off MFD but close nonetheless. RAW file format was used with no further pp adjustment done except for jpeg format conversion.

images at 100% crop.

FA35 at f2

NX30 at f2

ok, this is the best that I could get out of both lenses. I even put a lens hood on the FA35 for enhancement. but nonetheless, the results are pretty clear and consistent and identical from the initial tests conducted. I don't have the numerical data for comparing both lenses, but I think the NX30 rendering exceeds that of the FA35 not just a few lines but by a long shot. again, I'm not dismissing the fact that different camera system was used which could had contributed to such gain as well even if they have almost the same pixel count (K-7 has just a bit more higher mp resolution). sensor could be the same or improved. or the lens is just that great. I'm not saying that the FA35 is bad or not fantastic, but rather saying that something better than it just came up.

Can Someone Please Explain To Me Why London Has Gone Mad?
Posted By Pentaxor
Replies: 78

mah folks live there and I had been in touch with them eversince the riots started. from what they evidently saw, most of them were thieves who are joined in with other thieves. then some of your average employee join in thinking that they can get away with them as well. the logical answer if most of the stolen goods were something to sustain for survival or feed their belly, the answer is no. we can blame the government all we want for the economic crisis, but what help or what does that having to do with burning someone else's home? destroying somebody else's business? businesses that would help others to have a job and sustain a living? that's right. it's pure stupidity and just a feeble attempt to justify committing what is basically a crime of theft, vandalism, and destruction of private property. the point is, the targets have nothing to do with the government. I mean I haven't seen this people even have the courage to set the entire Downing Street ablaze.

as far as the original question is concerned, as to why London has gone mad, it has something to do with social/moral issues nowadays. it is very disturbing that a minor would have the thinking of stealing because he should be entitled to have a shiney as well, because rich people have them. there is no trace of discipline or remorse, but more of a sign of arrogance and feeling of misguided entitlement. for what it's worth, no one ever mentioned the word "hard work".
