Bandit has a tether strap that connects his harness to a rear seat belt insert. It allows him to stand with his front paws on the center console of my Kia Soul or stick his nose out either rear side window. He’s a 20 lbs rescue and he goes ballistic in a crate. If I do not fasten him to the backseat he wants to sit on my lap.

Growing up in a hoarding situation, I’m pretty sure he was never crated and had never ridden in a car. He does ok in town but does not relax at highway speeds.

Most volunteer/non-profit homeless outreach organizations know the regulars they serve and their stories. (Locally, The Forgotten Louisville and Hip Hop Cares could probably help me locate someone more quickly than a government social services dept.)

I shot the photos for a magazine article on the homeless. I was advised not to go wandering into a camp without someone who.knew the residents there. Homelessness, mental illness, addiction and outstanding warrants are not an uncommon mixture. There might be some hesitation to help if they think you are searching for him due to an old warrant.

My first photo of Bandit with my new K3iii and second frame with it ever. The actual first frame with the K3iii was of my feet as I scrolled around the menu. My shod feet do not qualify as pets nor a self-portrait.

K-3 III delivery tomorrow (UK) ?

Got tracking number! Arriving today by 10:30 AM!

Edit: Delivery attempted but no one available to sign for it. But the UPS Access Point is located in a hardware store one block from my house. At 1:33 I got an email saying I could pick it up there. I took off from work for 10 minutes, dropped it off at home and came back to the office, where everything was on fire. Figuratively anyway.

I saw a T-shirt that read “Being an operations manager is as easy as riding a bicycle... if the bicycle is on fire, you’re on fire and everything around you is on fire.”

K-3 Mark III preorders live at B&H and Adorama

I ordered the silver body from Adorama through PF. I think I was wearing my Pentax Forums baseball cap when I did it, too. My Amazon Credit card gives me 5% back on Amazon purchases but it wasn’t listed on Amazon that first hour of pre-order. So 2% back and the Forum membership bonus works out to... hmmm... and carry the 1.... well, you do the math. It’s good enough for me.

I came up with this idea while using the head lamp for a non-photographic purpose. Wrote the idea down and forgot about until I was de-cluttering, not to be confused with actual housekeeping, and found the note pad. Figured I better do it while I thought about it. Note: the cybernetic eye is a bifocal.

GR III - photos from owners

My social activist bestie and I went to downtown Louisville to walk across the Big 4 Pedestrian Bridge to a pizza joint in Jeffersonville, Indiana so I slipped the GRIII in my jacket pocket. Yeah, I took plenty of photos on the walk over and back. You may see some of those too. But once we got back to the car she decided to swing by Jefferson Square, ground zero for the Breonna Taylor shooting protests of last year.

The Square had been cleared of the memorials some time ago but there were a half a dozen protesters there. I noticed a BLM flag hanging limply from its pole and asked a protester who goes by Dee if he would hold it so I could read it. He started waving it. This was my last frame of the night. I like it.

I had an opportunity to accompany Tara, my bestie (white hat), on a photo excursion in a low wing monoplane. I brought a couple DSLRs and a couple lenses but as I was headed out the door I grabbed a Q7 and mounted the 03 Fisheye lens and slipped it in a pocket. Here we are on final approach.

I got a short notice opportunity to go for a photo-op and ride when the first choice photographer admitted he was afraid to fly in small planes. It was a rough flight due to variable gusty winds I experienced a certain amount of discomfort considering it was also two days after my 2nd Covid shot and I was still dealing with some vax reaction. But hereís my bestie and media master streaming me shooting us.

Same here for all the reasons Iíve sprinkled over all the threads. Silver body (only). That was my plan.

I almost picked the premium bundle at the last minute because... well, just because. But I recently took the battery grip off my K3 MKii and like it that way for my purposes. I stuck with the plan figuring I didnít need a $300 silver gimcrack taking up space in the storage cabinet.

I will pre-order one next week.Think I’ll get a silver body (only). I took the battery grip off my K3 MK II for some reason I can’t remember and decided I like it off better than on. My 5 DA Ltds are all silver for easy visual recognition in the office cabinet. Let’s apply the same logic to the body.

I’ll put the K3-3 through a work out with all my lenses and see which ones I’ll keep and which ones to sell with an eye toward getting the new DA* 16-50 PLM. Or the DFA* 50mm f1.4.

My K70 is starting to have aperture block issues. Thus the K70 might only be deployed when I want the floppy screen. I seldom used it until the pandemic when I started shooting more self-portraits. My K3 MKii will move to the back up slot unless I decide to replace it with a another K3-3 black body in the future. I figure those will be the last DSLRs I’ll for a long time.

Reasons for buying: Prior to the pandemic I shot events like fund raisers for animal rescues orgs. Rallies and marches etc. Usually out door stuff. Sometimes it involves shooting talking heads and other times action. Zoom lenses are a plus in situations like that. My usual outdoor event kit was two bodies sporting the 16-85, 55-300 PLM and a Sigma 8-16 reserve. Sooner or later theses fund raisers, rallies and marches will be happening again.

I believe the K3-3s improved AF, especially with eye detection will provide me with more keepers.

I’m 70. I still work full time and my overhead expenses are pretty low. I think I have more discretionary income now than discretionary time.

K-3 III To Be Released Next Week

Iím 70 years old. I donít see a reason for me waiting to see what comes after the K3-III or K1-III. Or even if the K3-III price drops $200 or $300 next year. I figure paying a few hundred more dollars for a few tens of thousands of better pictures is a good value.

We went back to Championís Park after the flood receded and the ground firmed up on the first day of Spring. It was great to get my DA*300 out again. Iím at a point where if itís cold enough to wear gloves, itís too cold for outdoor photography.

Pentax DA* 55/1,4 AF issue? AF not working after some time of inactivity?

My DA* 55mm also needs waking up every time I take it out. It does not whistle though. Last time I took it out it needed a lot waking up before AF started to work. That happened last year as well. In fact I once posted it for sale as a manual focus lens but it woke up. I may yet sell it as a manual focus lens with part time AF. I like the images I get but I have several other choices in and around that FL and I’m leaning toward getting the new DFA* 50mm f1.4 when I have a moment of low willpower coincide with an empty credit card.

Afternoon fetch and foto session at Championís Park. Bandit loves snow but in this weather heíll chase his ball but doesnít like to pick it up and return it to me. Nevertheless, I managed to get down on one knee and guess compose this shot with my Ricoh WG6 all weather pocket camera.

K70 aperture block?

This is interesting. I have some anecdotal evidence this may be true. My main cameras are my K3II and GRIII. During the warm months my K70 began showing signs of the solenoid problem. However, during the past few months of pandemic precautions and cold and colder weather Iíve been shooting a lot more indoors and using the K70 for most of it due to the flippy screen for self-portraiture and table top photography. I cannot recall the last inadvertent under exposure.

Selling Pentax K50 to get Ricoh GR III ?

I have a K-01 and two Q7s with all the lenses. I bought my GRIII last October and I love it. Frequently, instead of carrying 2 DSLRs, I carry the K3II with my DA*50-135 and the GRIII has a second camera. Regardless, the GRIII is almost always with me relagating the K-01 and Q7s* to the cabinet. Buying the GRIII is one of the best decisions I’ve made.

*I do occasionally take a Q7 out to play with the Fish Eye, the toy lenses or lens shield for giggles but not for general photography.
