We don't have many camera stores that are full packed and cary Pentax overhere. So reaching customers is hard. I also said somewhere here that the number of people willing to carry around a camera of 1 kg and more with lenses in a bag is getting small very fast.

The biggest issue for Pentax is that over the last two years the Japanese market for dslr has collapsed. That market is down 20 % in the first 5 months this year and nothing compared to some years ago.

The way I see Pentax.....it is a patiŽnt on life support.

Well you have a running operation with staff, factorys and offices. Those are mostly fixed costs. They should be payed by sales, on a % basis over production costs. So if sales plummit and fixed costs don't adjust fast enough you loose a lot of money. Then there is the option of a write-off of stock. Maybe you do cut staff numbers but you take costs for those leaving staff in this quarter. Making a bigger loss then expected is not a big problem, stopping it is.

I don't think K-1 production is at a high level at the moment. Something around 1000ish would maybe be enough.

I think one of the big issue's is that the number of people willing to walk around with a camera that weight's a kilogram is getting smaller with the time ticking. Lugging around a camerabag with camerabody, lenses and a tripod is not very popular anymore. Those who do it, are getting old fast.

No it's your issue for not seeing things as they are. Sales for Ricoh-Imaging are just to low to have reached more units moving on K-1, unless there where last year no sales for aps-c and Theta. With a year sales of 30 billion yen one can't push 100k units K-1 with lenses unless you give them away for free.

Sony A9: is there still a future for DSLRs, and Pentax mirrorless suggestion

Well maybe the question is, how much market is there for dslr above 5.300 euro (the A9 is 5.299 euro)? I think we will see dslr in the market for the coming 5 years (can't see further in the future with my basic tool marble), even as milc will come close and maybe even get a better sales in units. It seems that milc are cheaper to produce, but for now consumers don't see that advantage in their purchase. Cheap dslr are still very popular.

Seven months before the successor of the K3II?

I wrote this last august and combining this with the new information from Ricoh about the camera division I think I was on the right track. That new aps-c turned out to become the KP.

I don't think we will see a K-3ii follower anytime soon.

Well currently Pentax has no "good" selling camera in the market. All models sell in limited numbers and some of them sell not enough. That is a big problem for future development of the brand. We will see if Ricoh has an opinion on that matter when new financial figures are reported on april 28th.

Try holding it different. Put your right thumb on the shutterbutton and support the lens with your left hand. This is a good way to hold your K-01.

The nailpaint is optional, but recommended!

Ricoh official update the K-mount roadmap

I think that this is the biggest problem. With expanding towards k-mount the inventory goes up. So costs will go up for Sigma with extra risk. Avoiding that is smart in the current camera market.

D-FA* 85mm f1.4 also coming

When you want to attract new customers that don't have any current Pentax gear then you need to deliver. With the K-1 there is a nice line of lenses in shops now. It is missing some things and it isn't the biggest spread in lens choice for a fullframe dslr. So these teaser about development of new lenses maybe get Pentaxians excited......but for outsiders this is not so impressive. This just means, go on and walk by, nothing to buy over here.

Will Ricoh Make A "FULL FRAME GR" Camera In The Near Future?

The GRII is a 669 euro camera. Making it a 36mp full frame 28mm/f2.8 lens compact with no stabilisation for 1999 euro will need to find new fans.

K lenses : What can we expect from the CP+ ?
Posted By RonHendriks1966
Replies: 92
Well some primes are on the roadmap. So a few of them would be expected for the upcoming cp+ show.

Pentax is missing some lenses that are popular for other brands. 70-300mm or 80-400 in that range. Some wide lenses. There is work to be done.

The relative problem is the low number of sales that can be expected for those lenses. Pentax now maybe sells some 1500-2500 units of K-1 in a month or so since it is downseazon for photography at the moment. How many lenses can you sell on that?

Pentax KP - Specifications

I said it when the K-70 was presented......and repeating it now. This is way to expensive for the camera it is. At 1299 euro for body only they won't find many buyers in The Netherlands for the KP.
