prime, prime, everywhere a prime...

My walk around kit is the 15mm Ltd, 35mm f/2.8 Macro Ltd and the 70mm Ltd. The 35 is most used as it is most flexible due to being Macro and is super sharp.
15 is my second choice.
The K3 has so much latitude for cropping that I find I can get away without a longer lens.

HD PENTAX-DA 18-50mm F4-5.6 DC WR RE

Don't know about it's optical properties yet, hopefully good.
However as a WR backup to a prime lens kit it's a lot smaller than the current offerings so can just sit unnoticed in the bag until the weather turns inclement.
Silent DC is a bonus.

I've preordered as it looks like a great backup lens for the Limited primes. I tend to carry a WR lens in case of inclement weather as the Ltds aren't sealed. This is small enough to carry without needing to think about it. DC is the icing.
Wish the Ltds were DC and WR.

I'd like the 35 f/2.8 DA Macro to have WR and a DC motor added. That would be my perfect walkaround lens.

Sad the most relevant lenses for the current systems have been eliminated. These two definitely need updating to add quick shift focus, modern coating and built in lens hoods.
Still if I have to pick one it'll be the 31 as it is probably a bit more versatile, although not as much as the 35 Macro.

I've had some great pictures from the 12-24. I've tried the 10-17 but couldn't really justify a lens that would probably only get occasional use.

Thanks both for the nominations.
I thought about the crop but decided to leave the fence and grass on the right to hold that side of the picture in. I thought it just drifted out to nothing without that.

Thanks for the direct link, that worked. There isn't a button on the thread page, but could be because I'm using Safari on an iPad. perhaps the site isn't compatible (or vice versatile!).

The image shows it with the screw drive so it should work with all AF lenses.

It's all a compromise otherwise you wouldn't have more than one lens covering the same focal length. If all lenses had to be the best optically then the kit lens would be the 16-50, with the price and weight penalties involved. If the 18-55 can be made to perform the same by using software correction I'm all for it.

The limiteds are also compromises - they don't offer the maximum possible optical performance or the fastest apertures, but are smaller and more portable because of it. If some of the IQ can be fixed in software then that's good. The alternative would be much bigfer heavier lenses, which I'd see as against their philosophy.

Centre and recompose, using AF button for focussing. Often use quick shift for subtle adjustments.

K-7 Green Mode??

Does Green mode override the decoupling of the AF from the shutter button?

This is a real moan about the K20D - I like to use the AF button for focussing and the shutter button for taking, but if I hand the camera to someone else to take a shot I have to dive into the custom menu just to reset the AF to half press on the shutter button. I think Green mode should effectively be Manufacturer defaults.

The other option would be for the user mode to have independently settable custom settings, but they seem to apply to all modes.

I think the MZ-S is the best Pentax, although you wont get Av mode with your DA lenses. Tv works fine though.
My next favourite is the KX, but that wouldn't work at all with DA lenses.

A new 50-200mm WR lens too..

I think the 18-55 WR and 50-200 WR would be perfectly suited to the K7 because of their size. The 16-50 DA* is already too big on the K20D, so would swamp the K7. I regularly use the 50-200 on the K20D, so think a WR version would be a perfect match to the K7.

RAW + JPEG with JPEG on One Star quality

When going on a trip, such as last year's trip to Egypt, I set the camera to take RAW + *** 2M JPEG. That way I've got the RAW for manipulation and printing, and the JPEGS can be quickly turned into a slide show using Pictures 2 Exe or emailed.

I can't see the point of RAW plus a full size JPEG as it's too big to email sensibly anyway. 2M is just about right for projecting or emailing.

The Pentax DA* 50-135 f/2.8 is a more valid comparison due to the crop factor, and this weighs 27 ounces including the hood. Substantially lighter and most likely smaller (I don't know the Canon lens), and of course includes stabilisation (in the body).

I do know that I can print Super A3+ prints from my K20D and keep forgetting to sharpen in Photoshop they're so good. I don't think I need to carry any extra bulk or weight to get superb images.

I assume from this that you haven't used the K10D or K20D, just other Pentaxes with pentaprism viewfinders. Therefore you can't comment on the OP's assertion. The K10D viewfinder is a lot better than my *istD for example.
