The 28-105mm F3.5-5.6ED DC WR is clearly, so far, the best kit (?) lens out there. I am very, very impressed! See also here Sample Image? PENTAX K-1 | RICOH IMAGING.
Water resistant - already very sharp wide open and across the frame - good zoom - good price!!! If it had constant 2.8, keeping these excellent characteristics, it would be one of the 5 best lenses of all manufactures.
Also the FA 15-30mm seems to deliver very good for this wide!

Yes, you're on my mind. The price is right and seams to perform very well from 2.8. I saw even a marriage photographer using it with excellent results.
If there is one bad thing is, mustache like, distortion; and this is not good for architecture... Samyang though, hearing the complaints, released a lens correction profile to fix this (for canon-nikon).
But I saw even professional videos for architecture advertisement, that this lens performs pretty well.
The purchase of a ff wide angle lens (prime or zoom) will be a very difficult decision... considering price - performance.

Well, I don't know if it is ample, but for existing, certainly is there for a reason and many will find it usable. No doubt about that. My main thoughts is comparing the price (1700 !!!) and my use. For landscape photography I'm always using the wide end of my lenses. And many times I do panoramas!

About the quality of the 28-105 lens, from the samples in this link Sample Image? PENTAX K-1 | RICOH IMAGING I was amazed! The photos looks excellent. Studio photography (at f8 !) and landscape (at f4.5 !!) is very nice across the frame.
On the other hand, the 24-70 at f8, at the corners, is reminds me a little of my 16-45, with some issues.
If the samples of 28-105, from the users and testers, will be as good as those in the link above, then, the choice will be very difficult...
Comparing the two lenses for my use: When I am shooting landscapes I never use f2.8 and the extra 4mm is not that a difference. I very often use my fish-eye and I'm thinking of buying a fast wide angle prime, mostly for indoors.
For indoor and considering the high iso performance of k-1, if the 28-105 behavior at f3.5 is comparable with the 24-70 at f2.8, then.... ???

Additionally the 15-30 f2.8 seems to be nice, but why don't take a good wide angle prime? The zoom range is not that big.

Why you will buy the K-1?

For those that have a K-3, is a big decision (if the money is short) to move or to buy an extra body like K-1. As is already known the differences between crop and ff sensors in quality level is not that much clear. So you have to balance your needs for photography.
For me the things are very clear! I definitely going to buy one, until autumn, and the reasons are:
1) It's my time for upgrade. I have stuck on K-20D since 2008! I love my camera and I made a promise to my self (the bad finance helped...), that the next body would be a FF from Pentax (even if I balanced lately to move to nikon FF).
2) I am a semiprofessional photographer, shooting mostly landscapes, objects for advertisement, studio fashion, portraits, indoor. So... the FF is one way decision.
3) Looking to my lenses, I have: 2 APS-C, Pentax 16-45 f/4 and samyang 8mm f/3.5 and 8 Full Frame Pentax M 50mm f/1.7, Pentax K 135mm f/2.5, Sigma K 135mm f/3.5, Miranda A 24mm f/2.8, Kiron K 28mm f/2, Chinon K 200mm f/3.5, Tamron 90mm f/2.8 and Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6.
4) I am ok with the 14.6 sensor of K-20D, so the 15 mp, when using the APS-C lenses on this new much better sensor, definitely is more than ok. The best would be to use the full sensor, but...

And for last. If there will be a kit with K-1 & 24-70 f/2.8 would be grate!

Pentax K-1 Officially Announced

I think that a lot of Pentax users, anticipated for this camera to come and I can't understand some people saying that it was not necessary addition in pentax's arsenal...
It is the most welcome camera!!! Maybe the crop sensors are very good, but professionals and semi-pros we needed this camera. My opinion is, that for studio and landscape photographs the FF is a must have (even better a medium format but €€€€).
From the specs I can tell that this camera is a professional one, in the area of landscape, portrait, fashion and studio photography and semi-pro for sports.
I think that the major grumble is about video capabilities. No 4K (which has it in this price range?) and no 60p (I think that the grumble is logical here).
About the capabilities in photography, I would like to see flash X sync speed at 1/250 (1/200 is ok but…) and maybe a little more focus points.

So, for me, this camera will be the perfect one, for the price, if it had:
Sync speed: 1/250
More focus points
60p for video
I don’t know if already exist; a very good program that could corporate excellent with pc or mac, wirelessly, the moment you taking your photos, for immediate check on your pc screen.

I’m thinking, if Pentax made a medium format camera (645D), what is the rezone not to go for a 35mm sensor?
Some said that the market controlled by Canon-Nikon. So what?
How many are the buyers for 645D? The medium format market is that big?
Additionally, 645D is more expensive than a 35mm DSLR. So, why they hesitate?

In my opinion, Pentax, wants to stabilized in the market of ASP-C sensors and make a reputation. So from K20D, K-7 and especially with K-5 they managed to be equal, if not better, than the other brands.

I’m thinking also that when they get rid of some cropped sensors, they will produce a 35mm DSLR. As for the time, I’m guessing that, no longer than two years from now, will purchase a FF Pentax. The market will guide them to 35mm. There is no other choice.

Sharp lenses with superb IQ at small apertures, f/18, f/22, ? Enlighten me

After a little more search I found that the tilt/sift lens, suppose to be what Im looking for, for best results regarding the more in focus and sharpens Depth of Field.

So the Shift faction fixes the perspective

Original normal picture(no shifting)

Shifted picture

And the Tilt faction altered the depth of field, either to reduce or to extend the depth of field

Extended DOF, f/4, image plane tilted so that we get more DOF

Shallow DOF, same aperture as before, just tilted to the other direction.
This gives you and effect of a really large aperture.

So if at f/4, this kind of lens, can produce these DOF, I suppose that in smaller aperture could, sharpens and resolution, be excellent.
Can we add something more?

The Suggestions that we have here are:

1) Bellows and enlarging lenses
Can be found easily and at low price. Worth a try

2) Macro lenses (not fast)

3) Tilt/Sift lenses
I still dont think that will help me here. And the price is high! Thanks for the link d.bradley

4) Stack multifocus image
The inexpensive solution with guarandied results and of course more work. Especially when photographing a large number of items

Well, bellows and enlarger lenses, hmm. If Im not wrong, Ill have more DOF in focus.
On K20D, are they gonna work? The resolution etc, are gonna be what Im looking for?
Anyone who has that equipment can post his experience?

Ben I consider the posts seriously, more than enough. Ok the f/11 is the limit, but if there are lenses which can produce very good results at smaller apertures, I want to know it.

Some days ago, I read an article where the DOF is thinner on lenses with longer focal length. I dont know, maybe the differences are minimal.
Anyway, I still consider, as best focal length the range between 35mm (and 28mm?) and 50mm (55mm even 70mm?). This way you are in a good distance and have less distortion

Thank you all for your respond.
Well, Im thinking that the wide lenses, like 24mm or 28mm, will produce more sharpness but also more distortion. The 100mm or 135mm at the other side, will produce less distortion but also less sharpness and I have to shoot from some distance.

I believe that 35mm or 50mm are the lenses for this job.
  • As macTak mentioned, a 50mm slow lens and macro, will have his optimum performance at smaller apertures.

  • RioRico, I would like, someday, to own a 645D, until then

  • d.bradley, tilt/shift lens is for perspective control, I dont think that will offer anything here.

  • As for stacking a multi focus shoe, as omega leader and RioRico advice, I had it on my mind, but I would like to do less work.

Generally my thoughts matching the suggestions of macTak and I think that a M-50mm f/4 macro will help.
So at 35mm and 50mm are there any other suggestions?

Thank you again guys.

Stack photo. Grasshopper, from Tamron SP AF 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro, three shots, handheld.

I would like to know which lenses, new, oldies, primes, zoom… are qualified to deliver very sharp pictures, with good to excellent resolution, colors etc, at small apertures.
The use of this lens will be mainly, for studio photography and for objects like shoes.
Now I’ m using the DA 16-45 at F/18, at zoom end, with good, but not excellent results.
The old smc m 50 f/1.7 don’t help me and I tend to believe that a 35 prime, maybe, do the job.
So, I want your opinion, with samples if possible, in full size or a crop. What do you suggest?
Thanks
