Sounds like a good idea, so long as you're sure you won't regret the decision two months later.
The others have good recommendations, too, but the 55 would be nice for low light situations, bokeh, weather sealing and such.

Please, Adam, can you remove the popups in the lower right-hand corner of the page?
When browsing the camera/lens review pages, this "ad," which serves no useful purpose, gets in the way of the page content (see image). I can minimize it, but it comes right back once I go to another page. Quite distracting and annoying.
Thank you for listening.

In an episode of "How It's Made," there's a Pentax camera attached to a telescope. Looks to be in the P3/P30 family. Located at 4:57.

On zoom versus prime lenses

I shoot both zoom and prime. One thing I like about primes is the challenge they present. Sure, with a zoom, one can frame the shot just the way they want. A prime (especially if you have only one lens on you) can force you to re-think the framing you originally envisioned. I've captured many good shots that I might not have considered had I been shooting a zoom. And the overall quality of the shot is better. Yes, I can zoom in and out comparing different framing, but that only serves to confuse more than help me decide.

Help me think this through... K-70 vs K-S2 vs K-5ii (s)?

All would serve you well, so there is no wrong choice.
Since the KS-2 and K-70 are newer, I imagine they have better high ISO performance than the K-5 II(s).
As much as I love my K-5 IIs, my suggestion is to go with the KS-2 if you want something now. If you can wait 6 months to a year, go for the K-70.
If an absolute killer deal on a low mileage K-5 II(s) comes your way, then consider that option.

Others here can help more than I, but here are a couple of simple things to try:
1. When you press the shutter button, make sure not to point it at a scene without any contrast/objects, such as the sky or a blank wall.
2. Try another lens if you have one.

Storage

I don't have a good answer for you about what type of storage to use, though I'm rather leery of the cloud.
One thing to consider, though, is long-term compatibility.
Anything stored on 3.5" floppy drives is essentially useless as there are no drives being produced.
Will the same happen with DVDs? Blu-ray?
It seems like hard drives have the best chance of long-term compatibility, but I'm certainly no expert on the subject.
What I do is back up to two hard drives for redundancy, in case one goes bad. When they're full, I'll have to consider other options depending on what technology is available.
Tas provided some good ideas worth considering.
That's my two cents worth.

Do you store your cameras with the batteries in, or out?

If I know I'm not going to use it for months, I'll take them out.
Otherwise, I leave them in.
Never had an issue with leaking batteries in my digital cameras in 13 years.
I think it was more of an issue with older style batteries for film cameras.
Speaking of which, I always take the batteries out of my film cameras because I seldom use them.
Even then, I don't recall ever having an issue with leakage.

DA lens aperture on MZ-S

I've used the DA40 on my MZ-S many times and it works great! As others have said, you can dial the shutter speed until it gets to the aperture you want. Yes, it's slow, but never stopped me from getting the shot I wanted.
