You might need a couple of lens filter wrenches to get them separated.

I've become a big fan of the Platypod system for tabletop work, and for when I don't want to haul my big tripod around.

Tripod recommendations please

I am familiar with insufficient support issue. The reality is you really can't have too much tripod. At least in my opinion. After a few insufficient tripods, I spent some bucks and got an Induro CLT404 Carbon Tripod. Like you, I'm tall (6'4"), and it's nice having a tripod that I rarely have to extend all the way to use it. The other place I broke down and spent some bucks was on the RRS BH-55 ball head. It is truly the only ball head I've ever owned that does not sag, not even a tiny bit, when tightened. I have a Benro and a couple of Acratech ball heads. Excellent ball heads but they all creep just a bit upon tightening. I have adjusted tension, etc but they still sag when initially tightened.

I do a lot of tripod work "in studio" (that's code for the dining room) so I don't mind the weight issue of the larger tripod and the heavier ball head (I was a bit stunned a how large the BH-55 actually was when I got it). And when I do take them out, I'm willing to haul them because I know I won't have to fuss with them.

Quick release straps

Thanks for posting this. I've been looking for a replacement for my Peak Design slide strap and this Lucky system may be it, I will have to investigate it further. I like the simplicity and the ergonomics of the Peak Design anchor clips, especially the ability to remove my strap, which I do often. But I have had to add a back up safety attachment at each anchor clip due to multiple anchor clip failures over the years (thankfully non of them resulting in loss of camera or lens).

Why are Used Wide Angle Lenses so Expensive?

I bought a Pentax M-20mm F4 lens new back in the early 1980's. I was in college and it about broke the bank to get it. I don't recall the price but I do recall a solid month of living on the generic label Top Ramen, peanut butter and hot dogs. And not all at once. Maybe. I'm not admitting to anything regarding my early 1980's cuisine choices. Sacrifices had to be made. Priorities, ha!

Turn your film camera into a digital camera for $249

Conceptually, I like the idea of converting an older film body into modern digital. But I think in reality it's too little too late. It reminds me of my old Pentax 1.7x teleconverter/AF adapter that I bought in 1991 so I could use my M-series glass as AF glass on my new PZ-1 (yeah, it was a okay teleconverter too but it's appeal was the AF function). It was a novel idea but short lived. It's ability to turn manual glass into AF glass was quickly eclipsed by the reality that AF glass soon became not only available but also affordable. Today, there are so many inexpensive digital camera options available, I don't see a market beyond nostalgia for this product. But maybe that is the market. A few years ago, original Sony Walkman's became all the rage once again at my kid's high school, orange foam covered headphones and all. Thank goodness I still had a couple of them in an old box of electronics. Go figure.

From what UncleVanya's video shows, all mounts are not exactly created equal, and some may be suffering from more wear and tear that others. Probably a good idea to verify which lenses might want to pop loose on you and which ones are going to stay put prior to using them.

Sigma 50-500 & Sigma 180mm macro question

Not to be the bad guy but a "deal" like that puts my spidey senses on high alert. The value of 180 macro alone is almost triple what he's asking. It makes me think...

a) does he really have any idea of what he's selling and its relative value?

b) verify what he means by, and what you assume to mean, a "wee bit dust."
c) are these items that recently came into the seller's hands by nefarious means? (not that I'm accusing anyone of anything, but...)

And of course don't forget the old aximm of Caveat Emptor.

I am too. My buddy, who's a Nikon guy, bought an D810. When we were comparing it to the K-1, I was surprised focus peaking wasn't a feature. He was not familiar with with focus peaking was. And now he wants it, LOL!

Interestingly I never got the memo on this feature (i.e. I didn't read the supporting PDF for the firmware upgrade). And now I have. This is a great feature, one I know I will be taking full advantage of.

Sensor Cleaning Advise K1MII

For the wet stick method, I use the VSGO DDR24 DSLR or SLR Camera Full-Frame Sensor Cleaning Kit I bought on Amazon amazon.com : VSGO DDR24 DSLR or SLR Camera Full-Frame Sensor Cleaning Kit (12 X 24mm Sensor Cleaning Swabs + 15ml Sensor Cleaner) : Camera & Photo?tag=pentaxforums-20& It works fine, I'm just not very talented at the wet method, I just seem to sort of push everything to one side, and leave streaks.

You should also have some sort of sensor scope so you can actually look at the sensor.

I use the O-ICK1 stick. Works pretty good. Just make sure you take a stiff drink before using it. It feels a bit unnatural, like you're going to pull the cover off your sensor. So far mine has remained it tacked, ha!

It works pretty good but I too have a few stubborn spots that don't want to come up. So I just deal with them in post with with the spot healing brush.
